Baumgartner and McAllister get into a fight behind the play in the Boston zone. They wrestle for position and Baumgartner lands a short right to the side of the head. McAllister comes back with a pair of big rights. The camera angle isn't the best but the first punch seems to graze a ducking Baumgartner while the second appears to miss. They go into grappling mode and Baumgartner tries to tip McAllister to the ice. After warding him off for a short time, McAllister is taken down and the officials intervene.

Draw. There wasn't much to this fight. A punch apiece connected and nothing significant on either side.

Ken Baumgartner takes on Chris McAllister, a much bigger and younger opponent, as they come together just under four minutes into the game. McAllister and Baumgartner grab hold on the other's sweater and grapple early on. Baumgartner misses a right and then ducks as McAllister throws two rights, landing one. They continue grappling and Baumgartner gets McAllister bent over and off balance. Baumgartner gets the takedown and the linesmen are in right away to stop it. Really dull scrap. No winner in this tilt.

This was a dull bout with little meaningful action. Bomber landed a partial connect. McAllister landed a decent right hand. The men wrestled until the refs stopped the contest. I rate this as a draw as both men landed one marginal punch.

Terrible wrestling match. They wrestle, both throw one weak punch, they continue to wrestle and Baumgartner ends up on top. Draw shit fight.

Dave Scatchard runs Joe Thornton into the boards from behind. Thornton turns himself so he doesn't go in face-first but still takes a decent hit. Scatchard knocks off Thornton's helmet and goes to the ice. Thornton shoves Scatchard as he tries to get up and the gloves are dropped. They start trading wildly from the get go. Scatchard throws six rights, landing two as Thornton throws three rights that all miss. Thornton loses his balance and goes down, bringing Scatchard down too. Scatchard throws two rights and lands one while getting up. As Thornton gets up he has his right get caught up in his jersey. Then they start a heated exchange. Thornton throws seven rights and lands three while Scatchard throws six and lands two. Thornton gets his right out of his jersey late in the exchange and Scatchard keeps Thornton's head down. Scatchard throws two rights and lands one, then Thornton throws six rights, landing two which knocks off Scatchard's helmet as Scatchard himself just tries to keep Thornton in close. Scatchard falls down though and the referees comes in to split them up. Good fight between two tough rookies. An even one without a winner.

This was a good scrap. Thornton knocked down Scatchard and Dave got his stick up in response. Jumbo Joe gave him a shove and the fight was on. Scatchard landed a solid blow and missed a shot. He landed a solid connect and missed two blows. He landed an average punch and a decent right. Thornton landed an average blow and a solid connect. He missed a right.

Dave missed a punch and landed an average blow. He missed a punch and landed a solid right. Joe missed a blow and landed a solid punch. He missed two shots and landed a solid connect. He missed a blow and landed an average punch. Scatchard missed a few blows. Thornton landed a solid punch, landed an average blow, and missed two shots. The refs stopped the fight.

I rate this as a draw. Both men landed several effective shots. Scatchard got the better of the early going and Thornton came on late.

A young Joe Thornton's first NHL fight. Remember this is back when Joe weighed less than he weighs today by about 34lbs of muscle. Starts off when Scatchard hits Joe from behind. Joe pushes him from behind to the ice. Then Scatchard gets up and they mutually drop their gloves. Then they both swinging wildly with Scatchard's left and Thornton's left. At first Joe isn't connecting with much and is kind of off balanced and falls a few times. Scatchard definitely takes the beginning of the fight landing a few square punches, but Joe eventually comes back and gets the takedown. A nice spirited scrap between two quality fighters.

Scatchard checks Thornton to the boards and then Thornton crosschecks Scatchard in the back. Scatchard catches Thornton with a nice right to open the fight. Both are trading right punches with each other, Scatchard hitting Thornton more cleanly. Thornton has a bit of a problem with his balance but throw haymakers pissed off and eventually tags Scatchard with a right towards the end of the scrap. Thornton lose his jersey at the end of the fight.
Quite even scrap, maybe a little plus to Scatchard, but Thornton did pretty well considering that he was still wet under his nose at this time.

Scatchard makes a questionable hit on Thornton, and Joe responds. Scatchard and Joe are throwing some wild punches at eachother. Scatchard started strong, but looked like he got tired, leaving the door right open for Joe, who gets the takedown.

Scatchard makes a hit on Thornton and Thornton takes exception. Both guys landed some good shots and Thornton had the take down.
