Hal Gill narrow win Fun

Armstrong skates down the boards into the Toronto zone with his head down and pays the price. Gill knocks him flat with a big hit and gives him an extra shot while he's down. Malkin comes over to give Gill a nudge and skates away as Gill shoves Armstrong to the ice again. Armstrong hangs onto Gill's stick until the gloves are dropped and they wrestle at close quarters. The much smaller Armstrong ends up on his back and Gill goes down to the ice with him and connects on a hard right to the helmet before the linesmen break it up.

Narrow win for Gill. This was a big size mismatch but fortunately for Armstrong, he went down right away and didn't have to take too much abuse.

Colby Armstrong skated over the Maple Leafs' blue line and dumped the puck in before he was decked by Hal Gill. Gill gave Armstrong another shove while he was down on the ice, prompting Evgeni Malkin to skate over and push Gill away. Armstrong went after Gill and gave him a shot of his own, only to be knocked to the ice once again. Armstrong got up and the two combatants decided to drop the gloves. They grabbed on and just wrestled in tight, not allowing any room to trade punches. Armstrong lost his footing when he tripped over a stick, causing him to fall to the ice. Gill landed on top and threw two right hands, landing one to Armstrong's helmet before the linesmen intervened.

This was a mediocre fight. Armstrong had taken enough abuse from Gill and wanted to settle the matter with a round of fisticuffs. Gill accepted the challenge, only to tie Armstrong up and just grapple with him. Eventually Armstrong fell to the ice once again, allowing Gill to get a late shot in. Gill managed to get the best of Armstrong for a third time, much to the distate of Armstrong.

I judge this as a narrow win for Gill. He landed the only punch of the fight and had control by using his size.

This is a pretty boring figt to review because Armstrong fell down one second into the fight. This fight started with Gill cross-checking Armstrong to the ice. Armstrong gets mad, drops the gloves, the gets taken down when he grabs Gill. Gill is able to get two punches in before the ref's seperate him and Armstrong. Boring fight.

Hal Gill throws a hit on Colby Armstrong and then shoves him while he's down. Gill keeps Armstrong from getting up until Evgeni Malkin shoulders Gill off. Gill pushes at Malkin who just rejoins play. That move by Malkin allows Armstrong to get up and he shoves with Gill. Armstrong tries to skate away but then Gill knocks Armstrong down again. Armstrong then gets up and drops the gloves with Gill. Armstrong gets in tight and wrestles with Gill but soon goes down. Gill throws two rights and lands one to the helmet while they're on the ice and the linesmen come in. Very boring fight. Slight edge to Gill.

Gill flatens Armstrong, the Armstrong is laying on the ice and Gill cross checks him a few times. Malkin comes in with a hit on Gill, then Gill hits Armstrong a few times as he is down. How Gill got away without an extra minor I have no idea. They drop the gloves and start to hug immeaditely, all the weight on Gill quickly forces Armstrong to lose his balance. As Armstrong is laying on the ice, Gill lands lands two good shots , which was kind of cheap. Not a very long fight, nor was it very entertaining. Gill has two fights this year, both against the pens. I gave Hal the narrow win because he landed the only two, albeit cheap, punches.

Gill really was going after Armstrong ... threw him down a few times and Armstrong finally decided to stand up for himself ... He did the same thing he did with Souray got the gloves off first and falls down immediately to avoid punishment ... Gill attempted to open Armstrong up to throw and Armstrong fell backwards .. Gill landed a couple hard blows as the linesman peeled him off Armstrong ... Armstrong is a pussy!!!!

This fight was too crappy for anyone to win. After Gill hits Armstrong they tie up and then Armstrong trips on a stick taking them both down. Once they are down, Gill throws a couple while the refs are seperating them. This deserved the roughing call.

Gill has always been a hugger and will always be one. Doesnt matter if he is fighting a hugger or not and Armstrong & Neil arent huggers.

And yes he did hug when he fought Kocur & Godard. The entire Kocur fight was a big hug and Gill hugged Godard to the ice as Godard was oppening up. I dont think I have ever seen Gill fight without hugging at least once a fight.

Ronald Petrovicky win by KO Fun
9
Off the draw they drop the gloves and grapple for a bit, Petrovicky gets off about four rights, landing a few and knocking Newbury's helmet off. Then they go toe to toe for two punches each, with Petro's second shot dropping Newbury like a stone. He hits him with another as he's falling, but he's already out. To make matters worse, his head hits the ice hard and his helmet was no longer on to protect him. Newbury stays down for a while, the doctors rush out and force him to stay down, and he's stretchered out. Cool KO, but you can't help but wonder if this will give some more ammo to Bettman's anti-fighting crusade.

The puck is dropped for a center ice draw and Petrovicky and Newbury drop the gloves and latch on. They pause at close quarters and Petrovicky starts throwing rights, narrowly missing the first toss and knocking Newbury's helmet off with the second. He misses the next 2 rights and lands a left jab as he pushes Newbury toward the sideboards. Newbury holds his position and they go toe-to-toe with rights. Newbury lands the second of 2 rights while Petrovicky throws 2 in a row on the button and misses a third as Newbury is already falling backwards to the ice. He hits his head hard and Petrovicky is quickly ushered away by one linesman while the other frantically waves for help. Petrovicky checks his bruised hand in the box and Newbury is taken away on a stretcher. KO win for Petrovicky.

Petrovicky and Newbury go in a very close game.

They start out even with Petrovicky landing about 2 rights, and Newbury landing 2 lefts. They switch and spin around and that's when it happens. Petrovicky comes across with 2 hard rights that KO Newbury.

Quickly the refs knew he was out! They gave motions to the trainer to come on the ice and help. Petrovicky was in the box and you knew he kind of felt bad. But it's hockey, stuff happens.

After a long wait, they bring out a stretcher, put Newbury on it and leave. Petrovicky tapped his stick against the boards. There's that neutral respect from hockey player to hockey player.

Petrovicky and Newbury line up next to each other and have some words. They decide to drop the gloves in the neutral zone and have a go.

Petro starts out with about four rights that I counted, with at least two landed to Newbury's helmet, with the last knocking off his helmet. Petrovicky throws a weak jersey jab to Kris' jaw, and it appears to have put Newbury off balance a bit. Ronald gets in two solid rights to Newbury's face and Newbury is able to get in a decent right himself. The second right from Petrovicky caught Newbury on the button and it dazed him. Newbury starts to go down, and Petrovicky lands another punishing blow to the face of Newbury and they fall to the ice. Newbury appears to hit his head hard and is out. The linesmen motion for the trainer immediately.

KO win for Petrovicky, as his punches clearly put Newbury down and out in this scrap.

Kris Newbury and Ronald Petrovicky drop the gloves after a faceoff and get a grip of each other with the left. They grapple for a little, then Petrovicky throws four rights and lands two which get Newbury's helmet off. Petrovicky pauses and misses a right before jersey jabbing Newbury a bit. Newbury then throws two rights and lands one as Petrovicky lands a right. Then Petrovicky lands a right which floors Newbury. As Newbury hits the ice, Petrovicky throws two rights and lands one and the referees come in to break it up. Petrovicky goes off but Newbury stays down, clearly hurt from the punch. Medical trainers come out and a stretcher is brought onto the ice for Newbury who is out. Very good fight. KO Petrovicky.

Late in the third period, Pittsburgh scored to tie the game at five. Kris Newbury wanted to spark his team and gave Ronald Petrovicky a shove after the draw. The two exchanged words and decided to drop the gloves. They grabbed on and wrestled for a moment before Petrovicky threw four right hands, landing three with one knocking Newbury's helmet off. Petrovicky missed a right and threw some jersey jabs. Newbury threws two rights, connecting with one as Petrovicky nailed Newbury with a hard right hand. Newbury was on his way down to the ice as Petrovicky landed another solid blow. Newbury hit his head heavily on the ice as the linesmen quickly intervened. Right away, referee Scott Driscoll began signalling for the Maple Leafs' medical staff to come out onto the ice. Newbury stayed down for quite some time, only making small movements. After quite some time, a stretcher was wheeled out on to the ice and Newbury left the game on it.

Newbury likely underestimated the fighting ability of Petrovicky and was unaware he was going after a superior opponent. Petrovicky was very solemn during the aftermath of the fight and seemed concerned about the rookie's condition, tapping his stick on the penalty box door as he left the ice on a strechter. The fight sparked his team though, who went on to win the game in overtime.

KO win to Petrovicky. He knocked Newbury out cold in one of the best fights of the 2006-07 season.

This was a demolition job by Petrovicky. He went with Newbury off the draw. Ronald missed a blow, landed an average punch, and landed a solid connect. He missed a right. Kris missed a punch, landed a solid blow, and landed an average connect. Petrovicky missed a shot and landed a couple of big rights. Newbury was out like a light.

This was a KO for Petrovicky. Newbury was flat on his back and unresponsive. An official waved for the training staff right away. This was a scary scene where Kris went off the ice on a stretcher. One of the more brutal KO's you will see.

Brutal KO

Petrovicky lands 4-5 hard punches with one that connects to Newburys jaw and drops him. Newbury was out before he hit the ice and cracked his head on the ice. The last time I saw something like this involving the Leafs was when Domi KO'd Russell at Maple Leaf Gardens.

They square off and start throwing them in a 5-5 game, and while it looks like a pretty even fight at first, Petrovicky takes complete control and hits Newbury with 3 rights, KOing Newbury.

The biggest KO so far this year, he was down on the ice for a long time after getting up. I loved watching this after seeing the Pens get beat on all game, but hopefully he isn't too badly injured.

Off the draw they drop the gloves, Petro throws some punches and Newbury answers back, then they both start throwing punches and Petro KO's Newbury with a right hook. Newbury then lays on the ice for about 2 mins and then a stretcher came to get him. I'd say this is possibly the best KO of this season.

All Leafs fans know that Newbury sucks at fighting because he gets beat up so easily. Anyways, this fight starts after the face-off at centre ice. They exchange words, then drop the gloves. Right after they tie up, Petrovicky gets four hard rights to Newbury's head. Newbury was in trouble after this because Petrovicky just unloaded onto Newbury. Newbury was defenceless. He got dropped and hit his head on the ice. The refs have to force Petrovicky to stop and they call the medics for Newbury. Newbury starts bleeding from the back of his head and has to leave on a stretcher. Petrovicky wins this one by KO.

Really odd time for someone to drop the gloves. 5-5 game late in the third. Petrovicky and Newbury drop the gloves off the draw. Petrovicky starts off with a new solid punches, as Newbury is slow starting. Then Newbury ties him up and trys to throw a couple but it dosent work. At this point the are right by the boards then Newbury begins to lose balance and Petrovicky lands two really solid punches right on the button. Newbury falls straight to the ice and was out cold. The was almost Kypreos-esque. Newbury was on the ice and had to be worked on for 5-6 minutes before being taken off the ice on a stretcher. Its not like Newbury was pummeled in the fight either, he just didn't get going at the start and then took two huge punches right on the kisser. This was similar to the Kypreos incident in the sense that Newbury was knocked out before he hit the ice and there was blood right after he landed. Im a huge fight fan, but you never like to see guys get it like that. I wish Newbury a quick recover, but he is likely out for a while.

Not to shy away from the fight, bu I hope Newbury is ok and not seriously hurt because if he is, then fighting will be fucked in the NHL. I do hope he is ok for his own sake too. They go off the faceoff ... Petro throws 5-6 early landing 1 r 2 ... Newbury straightened himself up trying to answer ... But Petro just hammers him with 3 large shots to the jaw dropping him .. Newbury falls and smacks his head off the ice ... The stretcher comes out and he is taken off on it ... Only for precautionary reasons however Newbury did attempt to get up but was held down and was talking to players and surrounding doctors ... Big KO win for Petro .. I can definately see a rematch down the road as this was a rather humiliating defeat for Newbury ..

It started in the just past centre ice on the Penguin's side. Petrovicky and Newberry dropped their gloves and started throwing punches at each other like mad men. Petrovicky just get puncing him but Newberry got in a few good punches but that still did not stop Petrovicky's relentless punching frenzy.

When Petrovicky threw 3 very strong punches at Newberry that knocked him out good. To get Newberry off the ice they had to put him on a stretcher. Unfortunately I think he missed a few games.

Good fight though.

Devastating KO by Petrovicky. Newbury is out cold, he looks unconscious. The medical staff quickly get out there and attend to him. He's in a world of trouble and needs to be carted off the ice. One of the KOs of the year.

This is a fight where one guy bites off more than he can chew . they grab each other and both throw a few but Ronald stuns kris , to his credit he shakes it off and starts chucking em , but Petrovicky chucks em back and Kris has to turn his head and takes one or two real hard shots that put him down . .I am stupefied as to how this fight is in the top 100 on this site ? . I can name 20 that are better and not on it

Ey, i don't know if this is bullshit or not, but Don Cherry & Ron McClean just said that he was knocked out from hitting his head on the ice. I'll have to see it again. But even if it was the ice that knocked him, he was already knocked by the punch, so it was double trouble.Reply

usually people do want a good showdown again IMO. Think its more of a TKO thing then a KO because just about every time a player gets KO'd in a fight its from them hitting there head on the ice(imo that is what happend to Newbury) getting droped from a punch is different...and I think this would have been a Tko granted Newbury didnt hit his head.

everyone is going completly overboard with this. Newbury will be out a month at most...and that is a definate at most unless he gets post concussions which might keep him out a month or he will call it quites from hockey all together as post concussion syndrom aint no joke. He was not OUT COLD as he was moving around at first. Clearly isnt as bad as people are making it out to be. The reason most likely he was carried off the ice was because it was clear he has a concussion. Doctors dont want you moving around...Newbury was on his knees at one point before he was told to stay down...it was not that bad.

Sorry because I know we fight fans love a good KO but stop milking this as one of the worst KO's ever.

It's a 10 anyway you look at it. Unless your favorite guy is the one getting KTFO. I mean you have already marked this game, Petrovicky, this team everything on your hated list. For normal people it's at least a 9.

But a 7? You're just a Leafs homer. You're guy got owned.

It's a legit KO, these are as rare as they get.

In a fight, a KO is ultimate result, the maximum ass-kicking.

10's all across the board as they should be.

I saw like 6 or 7 8's there, and your gonna tell me all those people are Leafs homers. I've been on this site long enough to know who's who and almost all those guys who gave it 8 aren't even Leaf fans. I call it like it is and thats clearly an 8 in my book. I can see a 9 or a 10, but i give it 8. If you see the fights i give 10s to, then you would understand.

Toronto Maple Leafs winger Kris Newbury, it turns out, will only be out a week in what turned out be to a more scary-looking incident than it really was.

It was so scary that Pittsburgh Penguins winger Ronald Petrovicky, who decked Newbury with a series of rights Saturday night, called the next day to make sure he was OK.

"I appreciate that and I told him that," Newbury said Monday in the Leafs' dressing room. "It was a freak accident that happens every once in a while in the game."
