Patrick Kaleta is working the puck in the corner against Joe Corvo. Corvo lets Kaleta get the inside and Corvo checks Kaleta. The puck comes to Corvo and then Andrew Peters comes in and hits Corvo hard. He rocks a bit and then goes down. Fun

Drury shoots the puck into the Ottawa zone and Neil quickly skates over, hitting him a second or two after the puck had left Drury's stick. The hit looked like Neil's shoulder hit Drury in the face from the replays shown, sending Drury to the ice, hitting I think his face on it. Drury stayed down, blood gathering on the ice as he lied there. Drew Stafford then came over and challenged Neil right after the hit. Penalties were only called for the fight, not for the hit. The hit was questionable in my opinion (because it was late), but it wasn't an elbow to the face like Ruff was trying to argue. I'll have to see it again to have a better call on it. The hit itself wasn't too big, but it's taken Drury out of the game thus far, causing quite a commotion by the Sabres.

Needless to say, the hit on Drury led to the brawl seconds later.

Chris Drury cuts into the middle and shoots the puck on net but it is stopped by Ray Emery. As Drury is following through with the shot, Neil comes from across the ice and plants a huge shoulder right into the head of the unsuspecting Drury. Drury's helmet flies off and he goes down hard, slamming his head on the ice. Drury is cut open from the hit and Drew Stafford stands up for his captain by instigating a fight with Neil. Neil gets the best of fight and the Buffalo Sabres are not satisfied with what's happening, setting the stage for a big brawl right on the ensuing shift. Fun

This hit was clean, shoulder to head, but sort of late as the puck was pretty well gone from Drury's stick. Drury's helmet goes flying and he smashes his forehead hard into the ice, busting him wide open. Stafford then goes after Neil. Fun

I think it was a cheap hit...Drury feeds off the puck and is looking to the right. Neil comes from the left and hits Drury in the head. It was a cheap hit because it was late and it was in the head. Regardless, it started the best game of the season. Fun

I kind of compare it to Peca's hit on Teemeu (sp) in 95. I hard hit, maybe a little late, but Peca got 2 minutes for that hit and that's it.

Drury takes a shot on goal and Neil comes across with a late hit, knocking Drury to the ice and bloodying him. Stafford runs into Neil and throws a gloved punch before they shed the mitts. The camera focuses on Drury before cutting to the fight. Neil lands 2 rights and gets the jersey over Stafford's head. They hit the ice and the linesmen break it up. Clear win for Neil in a quick fight.

Drury has his head down and Neil lines him up and drills him. Drury is hurt bleeding on the ice as Stafford comes in to protect his star player. Neil quickly gets the jersey over and takes care of Stafford. After this the Brawl of the year occurred. But this was good work by Stafford as he is not much of a fighter but still was willing to take on Neil who nailed Drury. Though Stafford didn't win I'm sure he earned respect from fans and teammates a like for standing up to Neil for his teammate.

Drew Stafford goes after Chris Neil for his brutal head hit on Chris Drury, injuring the team captain. Stafford and Neil start shoving but soon the gloves come off. Neil fast gets Stafford ducking, his helmet off, and his jersey up over his head. Neil throws only two rights, landing one before they spin down to the ice. The linesmen then get in and break them up. Neil gets the win in this one for controlling the fight and landing the only punches. Stafford did well to stick up for his fallen teammate but he was at a clear disadvantage against a tough guy in Neil. On the next faceoff though, the Buffalo Sabres would send out some tough customers of their own to get revenge for Neil's hit.

This was a great game that featured a huge brawl between the Buffalo Sabres and Ottawa Senators. This is the type of action that used to happen about once a month back in the 1980s and early 1990s. Now it happens only a couple times per season. We need MORE of this!

Ottawa tough guy Chris Neil takes out Buffalo captain Chris Drury with a borderline hit. The hit was within the rules in that Neil's shoulder made contact with Drury, not his elbow or stick. It was a LITTLE late. Not as late as, say, Michael Peca's hit on Teemu Selanne back in 1995, but late enough to make it borderline.

The Sabre captain dished off the puck and then 1.5 seconds later, Neil takes advantage of the vulnerable Drury and nails him. Drury's helmet flies off and his head hits the ice. The collision with the ice leaves Drury severely lacerated; he suffered a cut that would require 32 stitches to mend. Drury's teammate Drew Stafford did the right thing, immediately going after Neil, but he is no match for Neil and just gets ragdolled.

Neil WAS a little late and DID deliberately target Drury's head. Drury is definitely the most respected Sabre on the team. Also, he is the captain. Those are definitely good enough reasons for the Sabres to react like they did.

After the game, Ottawa coach Bryan Murray made some terribly flimsy defense of Neil's hit on Drury, saying something like, "Drury didn't have his helmet on properly". Right, coach. Whose helmet ISN'T gonna fly off after taking a freight-train hit to the skull?

Bryan Murray seriously miscalculated by putting non-combative players like Dany Heatley and Jason Spezza out for the next faceoff and expecting nothing to happen. He can blame himself. Sabre coach Lindy Ruff reacted the RIGHT way, putting the dogs out for the next shift. Someone takes out your captain with a borderline-dirty hit, well, revenge is a mandate.

Sabre rookie Patrick Kaleta and Heatley shove before the puck drops. When the puck does drop, Buffalo's Adam Mair goes right after Spezza and gives him about six fast, nasty cross-checks in the arm and back. Mair then sheds the gloves and starts swinging away at Spezza, catching Jason with a few punches, including a hard shot to the mouth. All the players on the ice converge on this fracas. Ottawa defenseman Anton Volchenkov tries to pull Mair off of Spezza.

As this is happening, Sabre tough guy Andrew Peters is out looking for a piece of anybody. He pursues Heatley and gives him a something of a combination of a chokehold and headlock from behind for a moment. Peters then cruises in to get involved in the Mair-Spezza confrontation, going after Volchenkov. Kaleta ends up grappling with Chris Phillips and the other players on the ice push and shove and wrestle.

Meanwhile, the two goaltenders, Buffalo's Martin Biron and Ottawa's Ray Emery, come charging out of their creases to get involved in the brawl. Biron, God bless the guy, takes off his face mask and gloves to duke it out with the far bigger and much tougher Emery. Predictably, Emery makes short work of Biron, hitting him with about five or so glancing shots and taking him down. Luckily for Biron, Emery let up on him and didn't beat the stuffings out of Marty like he could have.

Peters sees the goalie fight and doesn't like the outcome at all, so he goes after Emery. Peters grabs on to the Ottawa goalie and they exchange rights. Emery is a tad overmatched and outsized by Peters. Emery takes about five or six punches to the side of the head and face. Give credit to both men: Peters isn't hesitating to do his job (enforce) and Emery didn't hesitate to take the big man on. Emery wore a smile throughout the whole battle, which you've got to appreciate.

The players eventually get separated and sent to their benches or sin bins, and then the war of words begins between the coaches. Bryan Murray is standing up on the glass, yelling at Lindy Ruff, defending Neil's hit and protesting Ruff's sending out of his tough guys.

Ruff tries to stand on his ledge, but the door gives way and he falls forward to the floor. Luckily for him, Ruff lands on his feet. Ruff yells up at Murray on his perch, while Murray yells down at the Buffalo coach. Rinkside commentator Rob Ray is standing in between Ruff and Murray, trying to keep a straight face through the entire verbal battle.

Ruff lets the F-bombs fly, barking out stuff like, "THAT was a clean hit? Bullshit!" and "It was a dirty fucking hit" and "Don't fuck with our captain" and "You wanna do something? Go after Peters, not our fucking captain!". It was an excellent display of profanity and righteous anger.

Sabre commentator Rick Jeanneret calls down to Rob Ray, "Uh, you might wanna kill the mics down there!" Ray, somehow still keeping a straight face, covers up the mic on his headset while the coaches continue to froth and yell and curse.

Peters, Emery, and Biron get ejected for their roles in the brawl. Neil plays a quiet game for the remainder of the contest. Peace is restored and the rest of the game carries on without incident.

This was one of the most memorable brawls in Sabres history and one of the events of the year, no doubt about it.

Next faceoff after Drury gets taken out in a bloody heap. Ruff sends out the goon squad and they go to work. Mair immediately jumps Spezza, and Peters chases down Heatley and tosses him to the ice. Mair unloads on Spezza and Volchenkov jumps on top of them with Peters not far behind. Biron and Emery quickly decided to go, and Emery dominates Biron. Biron tackles Emery from the seat of his pants, and Peters comes to his rescue. Peters and Emery proceed to fight, with Emery doing pretty well for himself. After all this, Lindy Ruff and Bryan Murray have a huge argument between the benches, complete with Lindy crashing to the floor trying to get to Murray. Rob Ray was in between them, and he had to have been loving every minute of this.

Nice to see the Sabres step up for their captain. Has to be the event of the year so far.

Big brawl occurs in the first game of a home-and-home between the Buffalo Sabres and Ottawa Senators, this one where the Sabres are at home. It really starts the play before where Chris Neil gives Chris Drury a shoulder right to the head. Drury was injured on the play and Drew Stafford had a short fight with Neil in which Neil came out on top. Despite that scrap, Lindy Ruff, Buffalo's head coach sends out some tough guys to offer more revenge for the hit while some of Senators' best players are out. Agitator, Patrick Kaleta mixes it up with sniper Dany Heatley before the puck is even dropped and tough guy, Adam Mair targets playmaker, Jason Spezza. The puck is dropped and Mair right away begins crosschecking and shoving Spezza. Mair then drops the gloves and proceeds to pound away on Spezza while Kaleta pairs off with Chris Phillips. Enforcer, Andrew Peters went for Heatley, putting him in a headlock but Heatley shakes out of it and then they both go over to where the players are congregating around Spezza and Mair. Meanwhile, Ray Emery and Martin Biron exit their creases and have a great square off. They slowly remove their gloves and helmets and Emery is smiling at Biron the whole time. They start fighting but it's over soon with Emery getting the upper hand, landing the only punches while Biron falls fast. They go down but get up and stand away from the other players watching the brawl. The linesmen are sorting out the players as Peters is trying to get at Spezza. Peters can't, so instead he goes after Emery, who isn't guarded by an official. Peters and Emery begin fighting as the large heavyweight takes on the goalie who is well known to like the rough stuff. The fight isn't extremely eventful and it ends with the referees stepping in between them, ending with Peters throwing most of punches and landing some on Emery. Phillips takes Kaleta down and just holds and the referees start sorting out penalties. Bryan Murray, Ottawa's head coach makes his way down the bench and stands up on the boards, leaning over the partition and begins shouting at Ruff, who makes his way down to the bench. To top it all off, Rob Ray, the famous enforcer who played for both these teams (almost entirely with the Sabres though) is standing right between the two, working for a broadcast. Murray and Ruff continue yelling at each other for a good while until the referees are able to get them back to their respective benches. Great brawl and there was a ton of emotion out on the ice and neither team forgot for the second half of their home-and-home where the Senators would play host next. Fun

Best brawl of the year. This all starts with a borderline hit by Neil. The next shift the Senators are dumb enough to send out their top line. Obviously, Buffalo is mad and they send out their enforcers. Everyone piles in and starts pairing off with eachother. This leads the fiesty Emery in the brawl, so Biron comes down. They go at it, then after Emery destroys Marty, Peters comes over and drops the gloves with Emery. All of this leads to the coaches unloading on eachother. Best game of the season, clearly. Fun

KILLS the other so called "brawls" from this year. This is like the only actual brawl of the year. Great stuff. Better than the 3 Leaf ones last year (Atlanta x2 and Montreal).

If you were watching TheScore or TSN or any of those highlight shows, then you would understand how everyone was praising this game like crazy. Why? Well ya, because of the close score and the shootout, but mostly because the brawl...take a note you fuckin idiot Bettman.

That instigator rule better change.

After the Neil hit Lindy is very pissed so he sends out mair at center with peters and playing his first nhl game kaleta, kaleta and heatley are shoving before the puck is even dropped you know something is going to happen, the pucks dropped and mair starts crosschecking spezza and peters tries to rip heatleys helmet right off, and mair starts firing punches at spezza catching him pretty good, comrie and volchencov are trying to make him stop and volchencov tackles him and peters tries to pull volchencov off of mair, kaleta and phillips are wrestling and peters and emery square off and take off the blockers and gloves and rip off their helmets and grab on, emery fires a bunch of rights only a couple landing and they go to the ice where biron throws one while emery can kill him, peters is trying to get heatley and then sees biron trip emery and emery being cocky about it, peters looks like he's going to try and get in the penalty box, but grabs onto emery instead and gives emery time to realize what's happenning, peters starts throwing rights, emery is holding him at arms length so peters punches can't reach, peters gets in a last good punch and emery hits him with a cheap one when the refs get in and neil is standing up looking at peters and saying something, then the camera goes over to the two benches, ruff and murray are arguing and murray is crying about what happened and ruff says, you cant fuck with our captain and nearly falls off the bench, rob ray is standing there staring off into space trying not to get involved, you knew right when you saw peters, mair, and kaleta step on the ice things were going to get ugly Fun

"You want to go after someone? Go after Peters. Don't go after our ------- captain." That's why Lindy has a franchise once stuck in mediocrity now a mainstay in the conference finals. Great work by the Sabres to send a message. Can't really see Drury getting this much support next year with the Rangers, but we shall see. Fun

Adam Mair decisive win
Fight called Unfair by WanderingEye on Feb 22, 2007
Reason: Adam Mair suckered Jason Spezza, Jason Spezza never intended to fight back
 Fun

Mair roughs up Spezza after taking the faceoff against him. Spezza clearly does not want to fight. After a few more seconds elapse, Mair just drops the gloves and throws a haymaker left that connects to the face of Spezza. He lands another head shot and one to the neck area and misses one last punch as Spezza turtles to the ice. Volchenkov comes into the fray and grabs Mair but it doesn't stop Mair from landing one more late shot while they're on the ice. This has to be called unfair though Mair gave Spezza every opportunity to drop the gloves and take him on. Since he pressed the issue and Spezza never dropped his gloves, it was an unfair fight won decisively by Mair.

Lindy Ruff, head coach of the Buffalo Sabres sends out Patrick Kaleta, Andrew Peters, and Adam Mair out against some of the Ottawa Senators' best players (notably sniper, Dany Heatley and playmaker, Jason Spezza) following a high hit by Chris Neil on Chris Drury which left the Sabres' captain, Drury, bleeding and out of it. Kaleta gets mixed up with Heatley before the puck is dropped and once it does, Mair goes right after Spezza. Spezza ignores Mair even though Mair gives Spezza a good deal of stickwork. Mair eventually just drops his gloves as Mike Comrie comes in and tries to get between Spezza and Mair. Mair grabs Spezza who just tries to get away and Mair lands a left which gets Spezza ducking. A follow up left from Mair misses and then the linesmen along with Anton Volchenkov attempt to get in as well. Mair is still able to tear off Spezza's helmet and miss two lefts before he's taken down by Volchenkov. The linesmen jump in they work on breaking Mair up from Spezza. Mair still throws three lefts through the linesmen that land before ending up with Volchenkov as Spezza is pulled away and sent off. Unfair fight since Spezza never fought back and eventually there was a ton of interference by both players and linesmen. Win Mair.

Buffalo was very, very mad with the hit Neil put on Drury, so they send out the goons. After the draw, Mair cross checks Spezza several times and tries to get him to fight, Spezza wants nothing to do with it so Mair just drops his gloves and hits him with a big left sucker punch, then continues to fire away at him, eventually driving him to the ice. Spezza just tries to cover up as everyone else piles in, and the goalies skate down to fight.

Ruff sends out the goons after Neil threw the brutal check on Drury. Kaleta, Mair, Peters Vs Heatley, Spezza, Comrie. Kaleta shoves with Heatley off the draw before the puck was dropped. When the puck is dropped Mair goes straight for Spezza throws four cross checks as Spezza skates away. Comrie comes over, as Mair just decided to throw the mitts down and start chucking. Mair lands a good right that rattles Spezza. Mair then pulls the helmet of Spezza off and fills Spezza with two more. They go to the ice with a few players on top as Mair punches Spezza a few times while everyone is piled on. Spezza didn't look like he wanted to fight but I think after a few punches he was ready. Still Unfair decisive win and a nice way to start a brawl by Mair.

It's payback time as Buffalo puts their tough guys out on the ice to go after Ottawa's star players. After the puck is dropped Mair immediately goes after Spezza as he gives him several cross checks. Spezza doesn't want any part of Mair but Mair has had enough and he drops his gloves and nails Spezza with several lefts before ripping his helmet off. Mair keeps trying to throw punches but is finally pulled off but Volchenkov.

Well Mair continues throwing punches at Spezza while everyone piles on and Volchenkov puts a chokehold on Mair. Mair pretty much tries to get away from Volchenkov so he could continue punishing Spezza. But Volchenkov keeps at Mair and throws a punch to Mair's back as Mair gets away from him. Volchenkov then end up on Mair's back looking like he might be throwing punches as the linesmen are on top of it. Then Emery and Biron square off as the camera lives this mix up. Hard to tell what's going on a few punches looked to be thrown by Volchenkov but not really enough seen to give a decision to ether player.

After the Mair fight, Biron and Emery stray from their creases and meet up in the neutral zone. They shed the masks and gloves and Emery quickly takes control, throwing 6 rights and landing 3 before falling on top of Biron. Biron misses a punch from his back. The linesmen are occupied elsewhere but Emery gets up. Biron grabs him by the leg and brings him to the ice. They each get up again and stand apart but no more punches are thrown between them. Decisive win for Emery.

Event of the year as we haven't seen a real goalie fight since before the lockout. Emery loves a good fight and challenges Biron to go in. Biron accepts and they square off briefly before locking up. Emery fires six rights, three of which connected sending Biron to the ice. Emery stays on top of Biron and throws one short punch. Emery then gets off Biron and Biron grabs Emery's leg and trips him down. Emery gets up and they square off for round two but in comes Peters and the main event starts up. None the less Decisive win to Emery as he got his arm loose and punched Biron to the ice.

The two goaltenders, Buffalo's Martin Biron and Ottawa's Ray Emery, come charging out of their creases to get involved as the brawl heats up.

Biron, God bless the guy, takes off the mask and gloves to take on the far bigger and tougher Emery, who has already shed his gear. Predictably, Emery makes short work of Biron. Emery tosses about a half-dozen punches and connects a few glancing shots, but no major bombs. Emery then takes Marty down to the ice.

Emery pins Biron down but doesn't throw anything more. They pretty much break up the fight on their own and separate. Biron trips up Emery as Ray got off of him, but Emery took no further issue with the Sabre goalie. Emery won the fight decisively, easily putting Biron down and in a helpless position on the ice.

Sabre heavyweight Andrew Peters saw the goalie fight and didn't like the way it went, so he moves in on Emery...

During the melee, the goalies skate down and remove their masks and get set to battle, Emery has a big grin on his face. Biron has no chance and Emery lands several right hands, eventually forcing Biron to the ice. Biron has some trouble standing back up and eventually reaches out and pulls Emery's legs out from under him. Some time later Peters came over to fight Emery for beating up his goalie. First real goalie fight in a while (Sauve/Aebischer really wasn't a fight), not a great tilt but awesome to see.

The brawl breaks out and as rough stuff begins with the players, the two goalies decide to join in. Martin Biron skates out of his net and Ray Emery meets him, they shed their helmets and take off the blockers and trappers. Emery is smiling widely as he and Biron circle each other. They grab on and right away Emery starts throwing overhand rights, a handful of them, a few of which land. Biron tries to back up but Emery takes him down, landing on him. They get up and separate themselves as an official stands by. Good fight beween these netminders during the brawl; great entertainment. Meanwhile, Buffalo Sabres' heavyweight Andrew Peters skates over towards Emery and engages him.

This starts after the Neil, Drury hit...Lindy Ruff puts out the scrappers and thats exactly what happens, all the stars are out for Ottawa and they are jumped.

To the side Emery and Biron square up, they come together...Emery throws 3 quick rights 2 land and Biron is just trying to hold on, Emery throws 2 more 1 connecting and they fall to the ice. Loved this because Emery was smiling the entire time, it was great to see....

Biron does well here, but emery, the more experienced fighter, controls the fight with a massive smerk on his face... first few punches don't seem to land from emery, and then he does connect, biron throws little and they both go down.. While on the floor, Biron pulls at Emery's leg pad pulling him down again...

No shock here. In the midst of the brawl here come the goalies, Emery much more eager to fight, just pounds Biron, but at least Biron didn't chicken out.

It started when a Senators player checked a Sabres player (it looked clean) but it was a little bit late so the Sabres player did not expect it. But the Sabres player got hurt. Then #22 on Ottawa attacked #21 on Buffalo. They started going at it until the Ottawa player took down #21 on Buffalo but they both fell. Once they got up the ref's stopped the fight. Then the Sabres coach started talking to the ref, looks like a little loudly.

The game resumed after the Sabres player got off the ice and they were having a faceoff at Ottawa's blueline. Well Ottawa's left winger started pushing Buffalo's rigt winger but the ref stopped that pretty fast. So they re-did the face off and Ottawa passed it up and he was going good when a Sabres player attacked him. So of course that started another fight.

Then Emery and Biron drop the gloves (blocker too) and take off their helmets and start to go at it. Emery started to just continualy throw punches until Biron fell. Even then Emery jumped on him and kept punching him. Then Emery got up and got attacked by a Sabres player (looks like Peters) and Peters got him good. The ref's broke it up though. Then the coaches started chirping each other and that was the end of it.

Biron got beaten BAD!!

Usually when I review goalie fights I rate them an 8 at least even if they aren't that good because it is worth watching a game to see a goalie fight especially nowdays. In my review I will state what the actual quality of the fight is but no matter how good or bad it is a goalie fight is a rarity so its worth watching a game to see so I would rate this an 8.

After the brawl breaks out, they dropped the gloves and Phillips had Kaleta's head down, Kaleta was trying to get a double leg takedown but Phillips was fighting it. Camera focuses on other things for the most part but it seems like they were wrestling for the entire thing. After Peters and Emery fought, they were still grappling and then Phillips tossed him to the ice. I didn't see any punches thrown.

Edit: Made a proper call.

Peters comes over to take on Emery after the goalie fight has ended. They stand at arm's length and Peters throws some hard rights from a distance. Emery keeps his head away as much as possible. Peters lands 4 punches but nothing damaging. Emery can't reach Peters with his rights. They move over toward the sideboards and Peters misses a right. The linesmen start to move in just as Emery lands a right that knocks Peters' helmet off. Narrow win for Peters. He controlled the fight and though he landed nothing too devastating, he did connect more than Emery.

After Jason Spezza is separated from Adam Mair during the brawl, Andrew Peters wants at Spezza but a linesman keeps them apart. Spezza is then taken to the box and Peters notices Ray Emery, now standing idle after his fight with fellow goalie, Martin Biron. Peters skates over, grabs Emery, and Emery grabs Peters. A linesman attempts to get in but Peters misses a right and it sends the linesman out. Another linesman tries to get in but Peters throws three more rights and lands one and the linesmen retreats just as the first did. Emery responds with a missing right and then Peters throws five rights, connecting on three. Emery replies with a missing right and Peters misses two rights. Another right by Emery misses and then Peters drives Emery to the boards and lands a right. The linesmen barge in to break it up but Emery connects on a right before the fight's over. Entertaining fight between a player and a goalie. Emery hung in there (smiling from start to finish) but he took the worst of it. Win Peters in a good fight and the last one of the big brawl.

Andrew Peters narrow win Fun

The fight itself was far from great, but it was an eventful moment in a wild brawl. Emery was one of the toughest goalies around. He went at it with Biron and handled his fellow net minder with ease. Ray thought it was very amusing to beat up on Biron. Andrew Peters wasn't amused at all. He went after Emery and the fight was on.

Peters landed a partial connect and a light punch. He missed a couple of blows and landed an average right. Emery missed a couple of punches. Andrew landed a partial connect, an average blow, and a solid shot. Ray missed a punch and the refs stopped the fight.

I rate this as a narrow win for Peters. Andrew won the fight, but he didn't exactly tee off on Emery. Ray was cagey and got out of the way of the brunt of several of the blows. Peters landed a few effective shots. It was closer to a clear win than a draw.

During the brawl between the two teams, Ray Emery gets into a goalie fight with Marty Biron. The more experienced and tougher Emery easily comes out on top. He lets up on Biron and stands over top of him, waiting for Biron to get back up so they can continue. Biron trips Emery who tumbles down. Biron gets up as does Emery and it looks like they are about to go at it again. However tough guy Andrew Peters who is on the ice and itching to get involved in a fight (yet he hasn't found a willing dance partner yet) decides to intervene on behalf of his teammate. Peters comes in and grabs Emery, forcing him into a fight.

One referee tries to get involved but backs off as Peters misses with a right. Peters lands a right to the side of Emery's head and he connects with another punch. Emery who is grinning misses with a right and Peters connects again. Peters throws three more rights, being unable to connect on any of them. Emery just hangs on and isn't really able to respond due to the goalie equipment he is wearing. Emery misses with a right and Peters lands a right. Emery misses with one and Peters lands an overhand right as they go near the penalty boxes. Emery lands a right and knocks Peters' helmet off and the officials jump in.

Although players are supposed to leave goalies alone, I can't blame Peters in this situation. He was trying to send a message (along with his other teammates) that it was unacceptable for Ottawa to take liberties with their star captain. Additionally Peters saw Emery about to get into another battle with his teammate Biron who is not a fighter and he intervened on his behalf. Peters comes away with the win here as he landed more punches than Emery who couldn't get much going.

After Emery tuned Biron, Peters eventually made his way over and goes after him. Initially, the linesmen are in trying to stop it as Peters throws punches over him, but then they clear out and let them go. The fight is mostly Emery laughing as Peters throws rights at him, connecting on a couple. Emery did try to throw a few but he wasn't all that interested, maybe he was already tired. Great to see.

After Emery beats Biron, Peters comes over to even the score. Peters tries to throw rights but Emery has Peters locked out nicely. Emery tries a few punches of his own but they come up short. Peters finally lands a couple as the refs jumps in. Peters controlled the fight from start to finish.

The other moment of the year as Emery has two fights in one brawl as a goalie. Two fights in one game is very rare in today's NHL and Emery who is a goalie has two in one brawl. Emery beat Biron to the ice and Peters was dying for a partner as he comes down the ice and grabs Emery. The linesmen are about to jump in but Peters is going to make sure this goes down and fires a haymaker. Peters then threw two punches not landing any as Emery locked up Peters arm. Emery threw one back that didn't land that was countered by a punch that missed by Peters. Peters then landed one glancing right and came short with a other right. Peters then threw another haymaker looking to have possibly hit the chin of Emery. Peters then landed a solid body shot and followed up missing a haymaker. Emery attempted one back not getting much on it. Peters then threw a right that was side stepped by Emery, which allowed Emery to land one as the linesmen came in. Event of the year as heavyweight and a goalie had a great battle. Peters was more active and got the edge on the tired and overmatched goalie as Peters in no Josh Gratton. But still a very good showing by Emery as he was able to mount some offense on the heavy even landing a punch.

Wow, classic moment here.

Ray Emery always has been known as a goon goalie and here just proves his point more. Peters landed about 3 shots on Emery, and Emery is smiling. Peters landed some more and Emery keeps taking them and smiling. The refs break it up.

Peters gets the clear win, for landing the only punches, but regardless good stuff from Emery.

Congratulation Andrew Peters. You came in a threw like 10 punches at a GOALIE who is let see, I dunno like 50 POUNDS LIGHTER THAN YOU. Seriously, what a fucking douche, there is no way there should ever be a player vs. goalie fight, its simply just not fair what with the goalies extra equipment. Peters should have gotten a stick to the face for this one.

How in the hell was this a draw. I dont care if Emery is a goalie and Peters is a player, and even if Emery was smiling. Peters won this fight without a doubt.Reply

i'll second that..fuckin peters killed Emery in this one and why should it matter if Emery was smiling the whole time becuz Barnaby used to do that and he'd get killed anyways so smilig during a fight doesnt make u not loose:SReply

Peters won the fight but it was far from a killing. Reminds me of Schwab fighting a player in the minors years ago. Emery, and Schwab, with all that gear on them, played it smart. Having all that goalie gear on you limits your chances at fighting a player effectively. Now, obviously it can be done, as Emery showed when he beat Josh Gratton (narrowly, IMO), but the odds are slim if you're going up against a noted fighter. Especially if you were just involved in a goalie fight, although it didn't last long.

The last goalie/player fight in the NHL was between Burke and Barnaby, I believe.

Quality stuff, Dude! (ChrisY2J... WWE fan, uh? Either that, or you're from Winnipeg...) Keep it up!

I loved the expression on Rob Ray's face when the coaches were screaming at each other... Was he Ruff's teammate at one time?...

I don't think they played together, Ruff was traded to the Rangers the season before Ray made his NHL debut. However, Lindy was Ray's coach for several years starting from the beginning of Ruff's tenure to Ray's trade to Ottawa.

Bryan Murray and Lindy Ruff let the words fly like the fists of their players. The mics are killed for this one. They shout back and fourth each one mad at the other. Ruff is obviously enraged at Chris Neil's head hit on Chris Drury, the Buffalo Sabres' captain, so Ruff sent on Adam Mair and Andrew Peters to mess around with Dany Heatley and Jason Spezza, two stars from the Ottawa Senators. The brawl got underway and in the later parts of it the two head coaches came together. It was a great exchange between the two, both guys were furious. To top it off Rob Ray (who was an enforcer for both the Senators and Sabres but the latter far more than the former) is in the middle of it, straight faced. He just stands there, calm, watching the two coaches rip into each other. Fun

Drury's hit by Neil (official word is a head injury and he's out at least for this game), Ruff's livid and puts the tough guys out on the ice, they instigate against the Senators in response. Murray is just as livid for what Ruff did and actually initiates the shouting match between the two head coaches. Ruff tries stepping on the door to the area between the two benches (where Rob Ray's standing there just staring forward trying not to smile as the two coaches shout), only the door doesn't close properly, so it slips open and Ruff messes up his shin as they continue to argue. Definitely entertaining to watch.

Definitely an extreme decision for Ruff, but this brawl was entertaining and I'd rather see this than having him keep Peters & Mair on the bench while the other Sabres players keep getting hit and not doing anything about it.

After the brawl is over Bryan Murray has something to say to Lindy Ruff. He yells across to Ruff and finally gets his attention. Ruff falls over the bench but gets close enough to Murray anyway. The 2 conduct a long distance argument with both screaming their points with of all people Rob Ray in the middle of it. Ruff at one point can clearly be heard saying" Go after Peters, don't go after our fucking captain!" The linesmen eventually come over and tell them to go back to their respective benches but not before a few parting words are exchanged. This was the grand finale of the best brawl in the 06-07 season. Fun

Lindy Ruff is living and wants after Murray....not sure why because Ruff was in the wrong putting Mair, Peters and Kaleta out...should have been Murray trying to get around the glass at Ruff...Ill wait for Ruff to baby to the media about Neil's clean hit being dirty. Fun

Pretty funny stuff as Lindy tries to climb up on something near the divider and slips and falls between them, cutting his shin open. Just a big old shouting match with arms waving around then. Fun

This is classic, watching Lindy hop the boards with Murray yelling from the bench. It would have been real funny to watch Rob Ray have to break up a fight between two old guys (for the viewing pleasure, hopefully no one would have taken his shirt off!!) Fun

Lots of good stuff in Ruff's PC after the game. Asked about if Saturday will be just another hockey game he says, "it will be a hockey game, but a lot of stuff can happen." If Peters doesn't get suspended I'd definitely expect more hijinks of some sort. What's McGrattan's status?Reply
