They drop the gloves off the draw and lock up. Barnaby lands a glancing right. King though comes back with better rights landing to the side of Barnaby's head. King then switched to the left and landed some lefts. King switched back to his right and started giving Barnaby some more. Barnaby just looked to lock King up and King tossed Barnaby down and landed one final punch.

Clear win King as he did most of the throwing and Barnaby didn't look like he was too interested in any offense.

Matthew Barnaby lines up next to Kris King and at the drop of the puck, they have a go. Both wrap their arms around each other and get in close. Barnaby throws three rights and lands one, then King's helmet comes off. King misses a right of his own and after a pause Barnaby throws a right that goes high. King replies with a right that misses and Barnaby misses another right high. King responds with a landing right and then connects with a follow up right. Barnaby grapples but King switches hands and throws two lefts. They miss over top of the ducking Barnaby and after a pause, King misses a third left. King switches hands and throws a right that can't get through to connect as Barnaby puts his head up. Then King does land a right and Barnaby resumes ducking again. King throws four rights and lands three while Barnaby loses his balance. King then throws a right that goes low and misses. The referees then come in and break them apart with both guys on the ice. Win King in a fairly good fight.

King and Barnaby were frequent dance partners. They lined up on the faceoff. Matthew got a bit of a jump. He landed a solid left and missed a right. Kris missed a punch, landed an average blow, and landed a solid shot. Barnaby missed a punch and landed a partial connect. King landed a solid punch and missed three lefts. He landed an average blow and a solid shot. He landed a body punch, an average connect, and a solid blow. The refs stopped the fight.

This was a clear win for King. He landed many more blows and his punches had average to solid impact.

Off the faceoff, Barnaby does well at the beginning but King then takes over and lands some unanswered punches and Barnaby falls down in the end.

King he only landed 3 clear facial-punches. King's other swings were all helmet-punches and I never count helmet-punches in any fight. Barnaby landed only 1 facial-punch. Barnaby fell at the end due to King's third facial-punch, so this could also be declared a tko, however, a bad camera angle puts a little doubt into a tko call.

Grosek takes a shot on Potvin which he catches. Grosek then goes to the front of the net as Potvin was about to drop the puck to keep the play going but he's forced to hang onto it. But Grosek gets a little to close to Potvin and Eakins comes over to escort him out. Shoves are exchanged and the gloves come off.

They get in close and Grosek throws an ineffective short right. Eakins misses with a right. Eakins hits Grosek in the helmet with a right. He slips down to his knees and Grosek lands a right knocking off Eakins' helmet. Eakins lands 2 rights to the side of Grosek's helmet. The 2 wrestle and are tired out so the linesmen move in.

Neither player landed anything major and of the punches that did land were equal between the 2 making this a draw.

Matt Barnaby and Kris King fight for the 2nd time in the game. King throws a right to the back of Barnaby's helmet. Barnaby misses with a right and King fires 2 more rights off Barnaby's helmet. King knocks Barnaby's helmet off with a right and adds another right for good measure. Barnaby misses with a right as King lands a left. King ducks a right from Barnaby and lands a left. Barnaby slips down to the ice and King hits him with one last right before they are separated.

Clear win to Kris King as he landed all of the punches in the fight and Barnaby was unable to counter King's punches.

For the second time in the game, Matthew Barnaby and Kris King shed the mitts and go at it. It takes place by the benches and they start off in close. King misses a right which goes wide and then Barnaby stands back just slighty while throwing a right that doesn't land. King then throws two rights and lands one before pushing Barnaby up against the boards and pulling his sweater over his head. King throws three rights and connects with one, then Barnaby loses his helmet. King misses the mark with a right and then changes hands and lands a left while Barnaby connects on a right. King loses his helmet as they grapple and then Barnaby misses a right. King lands a left and Barnaby falls to the ice. The officials move in but King changes hands and lands a right before letting go of Barnaby and skating away. The second round between these two resulted in another win for King. Like their first battle it wasn't that good but definitely wasn't bad either.

The men decided to go for a second time in the game. King missed a right. Barnaby missed a right. Kris landed two solid blows and missed a punch. He landed a solid right. He missed two rights and landed a solid left. Matthew missed two rights. King missed a right, landed a good left, and landed a solid right. The refs stopped the fight.

I rate this as a clear win for King. He pounded Barnaby with right hands. He handled him with ease.

round two, they grapple for a while, then each throw some rights mostly king, king gets barnabys helmet off and gets in a left and barnaby gets in a couple rights, and barnaby tries a right as king switches to the left and lands a left to the back of barnabys head which makes him lose balance then lands another big right

Simple fight because King only lands 2 facial-punches while the rest of his swings were just helmet punches or misses which don't count in my evaluation . Barnaby never landed a punch. Clear win for King.

MATTHEW BARNABY VS. SANTA CLAUS (October 1998)

Here's a scrap on Matthew Barnaby's fight card that many people don't know about.

It was the Saturday around Halloween Night in October 1998. The Sabres had played the Leafs in Toronto that evening. Barnaby twice fought Kris King in that game and was on the losing end both times.

However, Matt wasn't done fighting for the night, though he didn't know it yet.

At the time, I was a bouncer for the House O' Quinn. This place is now known as Brinks, a semi-respectable tavern/restaurant. Back then, the Quinn was a total hellhole place to go and drink your face off, truly a lot of fun. The Quinn also had a large patio right on the corner of Chippewa and Franklin (keep this in mind for later in the story).

I was working the door that night. The West Chippewa Strip was hoppin' that night, everyone in costume, everyone having a lotta fun.

Well, Matthew Barnaby decided to go out on West Chippewa that evening after returning home from Toronto. He was with his wife and another young lady, a friend of Mrs. Barnaby. The three stopped and got some hot dogs from the vendor that was always present in front of the HOQ patio on the corner. Matt was eating the dog while talking with some passersby and Sabres fans on this very busy night. Mrs. B and her friend were at the hot dog cart, loading up the ketchup and mustard on their dogs.

Some drunk guy dressed up as Santa Claus was hanging out inside our crowded patio area, near the fence right by the hot dog cart. He apparently had some not-so-nice comments for the ladies. Mrs. B and friend had words with Santa, then one of them squirted mustard at the guy.

Santa lunged over the fence at the two women, trying to hit or grab them.
HUGE mistake.

Matthew, who was about fifteen feet away, saw this and immediately dropped his half-eaten hot dog and leaped over the House O' Quinn patio fence. Matt dropped Santa in about a second and was then kneeling over him, beating a tattoo on his head.

The patio bartender and two bouncers immediately joined the fray and pulled Matt off the fallen Santa. Several Buffalo police officers, who were on foot patrol and were fortunately nearby, saw what happened and converged on the HOQ patio, helping the other bouncers keep them separated. Matt stopped fighting and didn't resist when he was escorted off the patio to the sidewalk by the cops and bouncers. It began and was over in about 20 seconds. I saw most of this from my spot at the front door and was laughing in amazement.

Well, Santa decided he wanted to get at Barnaby for round two. He struggled against the cops. When they restrained him, he began fighting with the cops. An even WORSE mistake. Santa was pounded to the patio floor and pepper-sprayed. They cuffed him and carried him off his feet and threw him into the back of a patrol car. AWESOME!

Matthew and friends, for their part, immediately left the scene and went home. According to newspaper reports, Matt immediately called his coach and GM to let them know what happened. He didn't get in trouble at all with either the law or the Sabres (he obviously was justified in beating the tar out of Santa, who lunged at his wife). It was one of the funniest and wildest things I've ever seen in 7 years of working at the bars down there.

So, all in all, Matthew Barnaby was 1 and 2 that night. Two slight losses against Kris King and a very convicing win over Santa Claus!

That he didn't. The poor bastard. It sounds like his soon to be ex-wife is already getting banged by someone else.
As Chris Rock said about OJ: "I don't condone what he did. But I understand."

This should be changed to abuse. After Barnaby and King were broken up and skating toward the penalty boxes Domi comes over and starts trying to goad or taunt Barnaby. Barnaby turns around to go back at him but 1 of the linesmen steps in before anything happens. Domi is still chirping at Barnaby as he skates to the penalty box. Fun
