whlfan Jun 8, 2012 03:00 ET | The Edmonton Journal didn't have much on the brawl. They have a picture of it in progress, and it didn't look like much.
This is how they described it:
The bench-emptying brawl resulted from stick work by Crusaders' Bryan Maxwell and Oilers' John Rogers. Maxwell slashed Rogers behind the net. The Oiler responded by high sticking Maxwell on the way back up the ice. "He gave me a two-hander across the forehead," said Maxwell, who admitted slashing Rogers. Parting his hair, he showed a bump on his head the size of a golf ball. "I dropped my gloves to fight him and the next thing I knew, I was coming to on the ice." Maxwell was out cold for the first few rounds of the fight night. When he did come to, he rushed Rogers in the penalty box with his stick swinging. "I intend to get Rogers back someday," he said. Rogers was immediately engaged by Barry Legge. Both benches emptied. "We were making a line change," said Crusader coach Johnny Wilson. "Everybody just went over the boards." Hunter was making a line change at the time. When the long list of penalties was completed, Oilers had the man advantage for two minutes. After the fight, the two teams played on as if nothing had happened. | Reply |
