Nothing fight. Both right away fall down near the boards with Sutter on top. No punches thrown.

Garry Howatt was not real popular with goaltenders in the NHL. He loved to skate in the crease area and interfere with the netminder. Garry was bothering Pete Peeters on this occasion. Behn Wilson was doing his job as a defenseman and trying to clear Howatt from the crease.

Behn jumped on Howatt and tackled him right away. There was no time for either guy to prepare for a fight. The refs were right on the bang-bang play in the heat of battle. Wilson may have gotten the win if WWF refs tried to count to three on a pin. No one landed a punch, so it has to be rated as a draw.

Howatt was one of those guys you would love if he was on your team. You would probably hate him on another team. There was probably a big party when Garry retired. He was infuriating to play against. He was smart and drew a lot of penalties. He was an excellent fighter who embarrassed the Moose Dupont types by winning decisions over mediocre heavyweights. He could hold his own with most good heavyweights and he usually got some pretty good licks in even when he lost.

Behn Wilson narrow win Fun

Not much happened here, but Wilson did pretty much maul Howatt. Both men were pushing and shoving in front of the Flyers net, and Howatt bumped into Pete Peeters enough to knock him over. Wilson goes ballistic and knocks Howatt flat on his back, jumps on top of him, and tries to rain some punches down on Gary, but it looks like the refs are able to get in there before any damage is done. I gave Wilson the narrow win because of the way he manhandled Howatt during this exchange.

Both went at it in front of the net. Howatt got bumped into goalie Pete Peters by Wilson, and Peters went down. Wilson kind of pushed Howatt down and then jumped on him, both still had the gloves on. They then wrestled on the ice and the linesmen jumped in.

I have to call this a draw as Howatt was on his back when Wilson got the gloves off and nothing of significance was thrown or landed.

Garry Howatt in the crease of Pete Peeters when he gives him a small shove up high. Behn Wilson is right there and takes exception to the move by Howatt. Wilson floors Howatt with a crosscheck and gets on top on him afterwards. They lose their gloves and grapple momentarily but the linesmen jump in before either man can get a punch off. Wilson and Howatt continue to grapple for a little until the linesmen pry them apart. Nothing really occurred here. Wilson knocked Howatt down and they got the gloves off but the linesmen were in right away.

I think this could be considered a rough. It didn't look like any meaningful action took place after they went to the ice and before the linesmen got in.Reply

The replay shows a punch landed by Wilson. It was with gloves on but the intent to fight appears to be there.Reply
