The First round of the playoffs used to be a Best of 3 and the Maple Leafs had beaten the Kings in OT the night before to force the 3rd game at the Forum. A sellout Friday night crowd greeted the Kings. In the 3rd period, the game got real nasty. Tiger Williams gave Kings goalie Rogie Vachon a hard check behind the net and into the boards (at the time legal). Vachon had gone behind the net to pass out the puck when Williams crashed into him. Gene Carr then went after Tiger Williams and they fought. Players from both sides shed their mitts and a full scrum was under way. Carr desperately tried to get at Williams & refused to go the penalty box so the linesman manhandled him off the ice. As all this was happening and with Tiger in the penalty box, Dave Hutchison left his bench and skated over to the penalty box and began a fierce stick swinging battle with Williams. This immediately cleared both benches and a full scale donnybrook ensued that took nearly 20 minutes before order was fully restored. Now remember this was a Friday night game so by the 3rd period, there were plenty of people liquored up. A Kings fan proceeded to climb the plexiglass and jump into the penalty box and fight Tiger Williams which was yet another highlight.

Tiger Williams (T) major-match penalty 0:42
Carr (LA) major-game misconduct 0:42
Hutchison (LA) minor-match penalty 0:42

Here's an excerpt from an article in the L.A Times by Sam McManis where Tiger talks about the near-riot which took place after the stick swinging incident with Hutchison in the 1975 playoffs:

"...We had this sword fight, whittling our sticks down, and then a fan jumped into the (penalty) box. I had so much adrenaline that I laid into this fan, who was trying to attack me, and it was around about then that the benches cleared and we seemed to be on the verge of a full-scale riot. They took me to the dressing room and locked the door. I was in there with a huge black cop. Outside, fans were hammering on the door, screaming my name. The cop could see I was getting a little anxious and he pulled his pistol out of its holster and laid it on his lap. He said to me, "Don't worry, boy, if anybody comes through that door I'll blow his brains out." It was good to hear."
