Steve Bernier starts jousting with Willie Mitchell and a big scrum develops with all skaters on the ice involved. Craig Rivet makes his way towards Mitchell and takes him down. Mitchell and Rivet get up and begin wrestling with each other. The referees let them go but they each just try to take off the other's helmet until Rivet gets Mitchell turned around and takes him down. Then the referees come in and break it up. Two rugged defensive defensemen going here but nothing was ever thrown and it was an awful fight.

A big scrum develops after a stoppage of play next to the Vancouver net. Craig Rivet grabs fellow defenseman Willie Mitchell from behind and he takes him to the ice. Mitchell gets up and the two men go at each other. The two men drop the gloves and wrestle right up against the glass behind the goal. Rivet grabs Mitchell by the back of the helmet while Mitchell tries to get Rivet's helmet off. Rivet ends up behind Mitchell as they wrestle and he takes him to the ice.

Draw in a horrible fight as the two men simply wrestled for a few seconds before going to the ice. Not one punch was thrown here.

No contest at all.....

Murray and Rypien engage at the faceoff circle and drop 'em and center ice they shadow for about 2 seconds and come together.

Murray quickly lands a shot that drops Rypien, to his credit he gets back up. Murray lands about 2-3 more good shots, then gets the jersey over Rypien's head and lands 1-2 more good shot.

Decisive win- Murray.

Right off a draw Doug Murray and Rick Rypien shed the mitts and square off. Murray removes his helmet and visor and Rypien takes his own helmet off too. They grab onto one another and Murray misses a right that forces Rypien off balance. Rypien goes down but gets up and has his jersey come up over his head. Murray throws eleven rights in a series, landing six as Rypien just tries to counter with a left and then a right that each miss. The linesmen then hurry in to protect Rypien and break up the fight. Win Murray in a decent bout.

Murray dominated this fight. Rypien was a bit unlucky to have trouble with his jersey over his head. He looked like the headless horseman for most of the bout. Doug landed a solid right. Rick missed a blow and fell to the ice. He got up and got wrapped in his own jersey. Murray landed an average blow and three solid shots. He missed two punches. Rypien missed a shot. Doug landed two solid blows and an average punch. The refs stopped the fight.

I rate this as a decisive win for Murray. He landed a number of powerful shots while Rypien had bad luck in getting buried in his jersey.

they fell right away and when they came back up, Rypien was all tied up in his jersey and stayed that way as Murray teed off with about 10 big uppercuts. Can't tell what landed with all the jersey, but Rypien got dominated

This is the first season he was on the opening night roster. It would not suprised me if he hasn't played in 50 games during his whole career.Reply

The only reason Murray won this fight is because these new jerseys are complete shit. If the jersey didn't come over Rypien's head so quickly, he'd of gave Murray all he could handle because he's a very tough kid. They'll find each other again this year and Rypien will do just fine against a guy who has almost 60 pounds on him.

But I give Murray credit, he got a very nice punch off to start the fight and took advantage of the crappy new jerseys to pound out a win.

There was a line change going on when a player and Ritchie got tied up. Miller jumped in to help Ritchie when Marleau jumped in. As more Canucks jumped in Ryan Clowe flew across the ice and destroyed Ryan Kesler with a hit/shove almost into the Canuck bench. Matt Cooke apparently jumped off the bench at some point and grabbed Clowe from behind and was choking him while Kesler was trying to get at him. It was a pretty ridiculous scrum.Matt Cooke needs to be taken care of real soon. He is the definition of coward. Fun

4-2 late in the game and Patrick Marleau hacks at Bryon Ritchie. Ritchie gives Marleau a couple of jabs, igniting the anger of Ryane Clowe. Clowe comes in to confront Ritchie. Cooke, being the girl he is, comes from behind Clowe and starts choking Clowe!

This is why I and everyone should hate Matt Cooke, he can't fight so he does cheap crap like this.

I have no idea. I was just going over the box score and saw that crap at the end of the game. Hopefully there is a video out there, or someone can at least let us know what happened,Reply

i think what might of happened is. Patrick Marleau slashed Byron Ritchie, Ritchie most likely punched Marleau which made Ryan Clowe unhappy who went to confront Ritchie when Miller stepped in, Clowe most likely proceeded to grab Miller and lay a beating on Aaron Miller for stepping in and during that at some point Matt Cooke jumped off the bench to fight/intervene on Clowe vs Miller since miller is a fighter and clowe can handle himself pretty well in that department imo.Reply

Matt Cooke was called for coming off the bench to join a fight at the end of Monday's game. Alain Vigneault says it was a mistake and that the replays will show that he was on the ice the whole time. The NHL has cleared Cooke of any wrongdoing. - TSNReply
