Michel Petit is behind the net against the boards when the puck goes past him to Dave Reid. As Petit turns around to find the puck, John Kordic comes in and plasters Petit into the boards from behind. Kordic has the hit lined up into Petit's shoulder but as Petit turns, Kordic arrives with his shoulder right into Petit's back. Petit goes into the boards awkwardly as Kordic finishes the hit right over top of Petit but Petit is able to get up. Kordic received a minor penalty for the hit. It was from behind but Petit was turning right as Kordic came in to deliver the check. Not a very dirty hit in my opinion. Fun

Kordic grazes Paterson with one of the 3 lefts he throws, slipping in the process. Paterson goes down with him and lands a weak right on the way down. Kordic and linesman Collins end up on top of Paterson but linesman Bob Hodges has difficulty containing Joe, who continues to throw from his back. His punches miss Kordic though some catch Collins on the elbow.

This was a very brief scrap. Kordic landed an average left and missed a punch. Paterson missed with a right and a left. The men fell to the ice and Joe landed a decent left hand. The refs wrapped up Kordic. Paterson threw a series of punches from his back. He landed a couple of partial connects and missed with several lefts.

I rate this fight as a draw. Both men landed one blow in the fair portion of the contest. Kordic landed the better punch, but I think it was insufficient to earn a win.

Round 1 was nullified by an early slip by Kordic, and as Paterson falls on top of him Kordic quickly reverses and ends up on top but nothing was really landed. Paterson throws blindly underneath the linesmen but this bout was nothing more than an accidental fall down. They made up for this one in round 2.

John Ogrodnick scores and on the ensuing faceoff a scrap gets underway between John Kordic and Joe Paterson. Paterson ducks his head while moving and gets a hold on Kordic. Kordic gets a hold of his own on Paterson and throws two lefts, landing one lightly before falling. Paterson misses a left and falls on top of Kordic, then misses a right while Kordic tries to get up. The linesmen hurry in but Paterson throws eight lefts up at Kordic, landing one before stopping. The linesmen then get Kordic off of Paterson and send them off. Really bad scrap and a draw.

Round 1. Kordic threw a couple lefts and quickly lost his balance. Linesmen got in and when Paterson was at the bottom of the pile he threw some pillow punches. Draw in a shit fight.

John Kordic win by TKO Fun

This was a good action fight. The first bout between the men was a stinker and neither was satisfied with the outcome of that contest. This was a battle of left hooks. Kordic landed a couple of solid lefts. Paterson missed a couple of punches and landed a couple of average blows.

Kordic missed a couple of punches and landed a couple of average connects. Paterson landed a couple of decent blows and landed three solid shots. John landed a solid blow and two pretty good shots. The last one landed with enough force to knock Joe off of his skates.

I rate this as a TKO win for Kordic. This was a tough and competitive contest, but Rambo's blows did more damage. The knockdown appeared to be clean and legitimate. This provides further evidence that John was an underrated puncher. He had an impressive stoppage win over a good heavyweight in Paterson.

During a stoppage in play, John Kordic and Joe Paterson meet up and drop the gloves, wanting a rematch as their earlier fight didn't get going. They both get a hold of the other with the right and exchange. Paterson throws thirteen lefts and lands seven while Kordic throws eight lefts, landing three while getting his head down and then pauses but then throws five more lefts and lands two, dropping Paterson with one. The linesmen rush in to break it up as Kordic misses a left while on top of Paterson. Really entertaining scrap as it was just a fast toe-to-toe exchange. Paterson was doing well and was getting in more punches than Kordic but in the end, Kordic dropped Paterson with a left.

Better fight than the earlier one. Both throw lefts and Paterson lands 2 good ones that don't seem to faze Kordic. Kordic, whose back is to the camera, appears to land a solid punch before Paterson goes down. He gets up quickly and stands over Kordic but the linesmen get in there. Tough fight to call. Looked like Paterson landed more punches but one of Kordic's punches could have caused the fall. It appears to me that Paterson was trying to throw Kordic to the ice but failed and fell but Kordic was clearly coming on at the end of the scrap.

This was a tough fight to call, because like round 1 they're squaring off and ready to go and this time the lefts are flying and landing pretty evenly, then Kordic lands what appears to be knockdown shot - and as they're down the wrestling ensues as the linesmen break them up. I've watched this a few times, and I can see where someone would think that it was a combination slip/takedown that dropped Paterson because he does appear off-balance, but there is no question that Kordic is landing a flurry of lefts as Paterson drops. One of those, did the punch cause the knockdown or was he off-balance and happened to get hit at the same time. I'll re-view to make sure my call of TKO is correct, but it looks like the punch was the main reason Paterson dropped.

Round 2. Short toe to toe with lefts. They landed about the same amount, but Kordic at the end landed a left that I think stunned Paterson. Paterson stopped throwing and started to fall down and Kordic might have landed another when Paterson was already going down. Knockdown win for Kordic.

The two big guys are firing away consistently and landing. Momentary blockages of the camera-view are frustrating but thank God the camera switches angles just in time to see both guys landing facial-punches while Kordic's swings evolve into uppercuts. The last uppercut by Kordic decks Paterson ... a beauty by Kordic. Too bad, because Paterson was trading punches with Kordic in an even exchange all the way up until the very end ... but its "close but no cigar" for Paterson as Kordic gets accredited with a tko.

Nice toe to toe exchange of lefts with both landing some shots, Kordic takes over late landing a couple in a row with the last one knocking Paterson on his backside, TKO win Kordic.

If you liked this particular bout, you should see their minor league marathon punch-out during the 85-86 season which as of 12/21/10 is shown at DYG's website.Reply
