Tony Twist and Joey Kocur, the two hardest punchers in NHL history, meet up behind the play. They lose their gloves and helmets, grab on with the left hands, and load up the big rights.
Kocur and Twist throw huge right hands simultaneously. Twist misses entirely with his first (and as it turns out, ONLY) punch. Kocur lands a glancing shot to Twist's head, then immediately goes underneath and delivers a hammering blow to the midsection.
I think Kocur knocked the wind out of Twist with this first body blow. Twist just held on and didn't even attempt to throw a second punch, which is VERY unlike the Twister (who was usually extremely aggressive in all of his battles).
On top of having the wind knocked out of him, Twist is locked out well by Kocur and cannot even get his right arm free (even though I don't think Twist was planning on tossing another one). Kocur starts swinging away fiercely with rapid right hands. Joey hammered on Twist's ribcage and kidneys with about a dozen hard punches. Kocur tossed one more shot in on Twist's head, then the linesmen separated them.
Twist had to be hurting (and possibly pissing blood) after that beating. Kocur definitely won that fight clearcut. |

Tony Twist was a young enforcer who had a world of potential, but he did not yet have the experience to master all the subtleties of his craft. Joe Kocur was still in his prime and was one of the most feared fighters in the league. This had the potential to have great two-way action.
Kocur got the edge right away by getting a vise-grip lock on Tony's right shirt sleeve. Tony threw one weak right. The punch's effect was clearly mitigated by Joey's grip. Kocur started to pound away with body shots as Twist was unable to get any more punches off.
Kocur threw about ten consecutive body punches. Most of these punches landed with terrific force. Twist seemed unconcerned at first about the body blows, but the aggregate effect of these blows began to slow him to a crawl.
Joey threw a decent right to Tony's head to interrupt the sequence. Then, he appeared to land five more body blows. At this point the refs stepped in and Twist had a discernable grimace on his face. The body blows did some damage and I'm certain he was feeling the effects of these blows for days afterwards.
This was a clear victory for Kocur. He landed with numerous body blows. I would not rate it as a decisive victory because Twist was never in danger of going down. However, a case might be made that the referees had to stop the bout to prevent Twist from suffering internal injuries.
This was the greatest body-punching clinic I have ever seen in an NHL rink. Joey could work the body better than anyone else. He resembled the great Mexican boxer Julio Cesar Chavez with his crunching body blows. This was a great performance by Kocur. He schooled the young Blues enforcer, who would go on to become one of the greatest fighters in NHL history. |

| One of the few times you will see Twist not thinking offense and just trying to survive. But then who can blame him? It was his rookie season, and he was facing a prime Kocur. Twist just holds his left arm high to ward off face shots from Kocur's right. As a result, Kocur lands just one decent right on Twist's noggin, and the rest he lands are fierce body blows. Twist doesn't land a single shot and possibly may not have even thrown an honest punch. |

| Can't really add much to what already been said, other than I would have liked to have seen this one later in Twist's career. In this scrap it's all Kocur, landing virtually nothing but body shots to Twist as Twist only appears intent on waiting for the zebras to break it up. I didn't see Twist throw an honest punch, either. |

| One of the VERY few times you'll see Twist on defense. It's all Kocur in this one. |

| They lock up and Kocur throws a shot Twist reciprocates and then Kocur just goes to the body and doesnt stop. For one of the hardest punchers in league history to do that kind of body work... damn. Twist must have been hurt for him not to throw back, maybe there is a reason that i dont know about but for now i'll assume it was a right hand. Kocur with a clear win here against an all-time heavyweight. And, moreso entertaining for the uncommon amount of hard body shots. |

chrisY2J Feb 11, 2012 04:13 ET | Does anyone have the extended clip of this fight? As Kocur is leaving the ice after beating Twist, someone on the Blues bench talks some trash. Joey abruptly turns and makes his way to the Blues bench, but he is stopped by the linesman. | Reply |

| Barr actually throws more but is bloodied up pretty good over the eye so Chaser landed at least 1 good one. Probably should be a win to Chaser, but the camera work on this one was very poor and you can barely see that both guys are throwing, can't really tell how much lands. |
