Ken Baumgartner narrow win Fun
4
Ken Baumgartner and Alan Stewart drop the gloves while play is going on. They grab on and stay close to each other. Stewart starts off landing a average left hand and they start to wrestle. Then Ken Baumgartner throws three lefts and lands two. Ken then lands another left while Stewart fails to connect with a left.

Baumgartner throws a left hand that misses and then lands a left while Alan Stewart misses a left. Stewart and Baumgartner grapple and Baumgartner lands a left. After that Stewart misses a left hand. Ken then has a grip on Stewart and pulls him down to the ice and throws two lefts, landing one of them.

I give Ken Baumgartner a narrow win in this fight. I give him the narrow win for landing a few more than Alan Stewart and his punches seemed to have a bit more power. Not sure if this is a clear win, Baumgartner's punches weren't that great in quality. Not a long fight and not very fun to watch.

Allan Stewart and Ken Baumgartner shed the mitts behind the play and grab on in close. Stewart lands a left and lowers his head as they wrestle. Baumgartner throws three lefts and lands two, then lands a left as Stewart misses a left. Baumgartner misses a left but then connects on a left as Stewart misses a left. They grapple and Baumgartner lands a left before Stewart misses a left. Baumgartner pulls Stewart down and throws two lefts, landing one. Not a long fight and Stewart tried to stand in there but Baumgartner had much more control and landed many more punches. Win Baumgartner. Pretty bad tilt in my eyes. It wasn't very long and neither landed any big punches.

Baumgartner and Stewart were trading left hands on the inside. Ken landed an average blow, missed a punch, landed a body shot, and landed a solid connect. Alan landed a couple of initial average lefts and missed a couple of punches.

The Bomber wrapped up Stewart's arm with a solid grip. Ken missed a punch, landed an average blow, and landed a couple of decent connects. Alan missed a left hand. Baumgartner landed a partial connect and hauled Stewart to the ice. He landed an average blow before the refs stepped in.

I rate this as a narrow win for Baumgartner. He landed a few more punches and with a little better pop. Stewart did land a couple of effective blows in the early going. Ken landed with moderately effective punches and did not dish out a beating.

Baumgartner gets a solid grip on Stewart's collar and throws some good left hands before ragdolling him to the ice. Stewart gets up and tries to continue to no avail as the men in stripes hold him back.

Mick Vukota and Troy Crowder drop the gloves near the blue line and grab on. It is clearly evident that at this point, the book is now out on Crowder after what happened in the Bob Probert, Jeff Chychrun, and Tony Horacek fights. Vukota has ZERO interest in trading punches with Crowder.

Crowder is trying to pull Vukota close to him with his left arm and then throw rights, but Vukota has a death grip on Crowder's right sleeve. Vukota tries to pull a takedown on Crowder, but ends up falling backwards with Crowder on top of him. The linesmen then stop it.

It was an uneventful draw.

This was a terrible fight. Vukota got his stick up a bit on Crowder. Troy dropped the gloves and wanted a pound of flesh. The beginning of the scrap can be seen at the end of the clip. It looked like Troy may have landed a partial connect without much pop.

Vukota was clinging on him like a remora on the bottom of a shark. It looked like Mick landed a grazing blow that did no damage. Vukota wanted to get Crowder to the ice right away. He grabbed his legs, but Troy fell on top of him. The men got up and Crowder looked disgusted as the two separated.

I rate this as a draw as neither man landed an effective shot. This bout revealed a lot about both enforcers. Crowder wanted to slug it out. He was the ambitious type who longed to be the best in the business. He had thrilling wars with Bob Probert with the heavyweight championship of the NHL on the line.

Vukota often took the conservative approach. He minimized the risks he took by often going for the quick takedown. He was a frustrating guy to watch. He was capable of slugging it out on his skates for a long duration. This was the case in his good fight with Brendan Shanahan.

Vukota was not the most popular enforcer among fans or his peers. His takedowns were very hard and could certainly inflict pain. However, many interpreted the move as a desire to preserve his shelf life and bail on meaningful combat.

Mick had a chance to make a statement in his fight with Crowder. It was a risky move to take Troy on in an extended match, but there would be a great payoff if he won. He would certainly have been rated as a top heavyweight in the NHL by beating a prime Crowder.

Instead, Vukota cheated the crowd by squandering an opportunity to fight Crowder. This was a very boring fight. Crowder's reaction was telling. He was disgusted with the quick takedown. This was not like Tony Twist getting a quick takedown with the intent to batter a guy on the ice. Vukota looked to minimize wear and tear by going for the takedown move.

Vukota was a good NHL fighter, but he blew a chance to be rated as one of the best of his era. The fight against Crowder was not an isolated incident. There were too many times where Vukota took the easy way out. A lot of people lost respect for him over the years by blowing opportunities to impress in combat against elite heavyweights like Crowder.

Tough guys Troy Crowder and Mick Vukota meet up at center ice after Vukota got his stick up a little too high on Crowder. The New Jersey ruffian wants a piece of Vukota so the two men doff the mitts. Vukota is all too aware of how powerful Crowder is and he really wants no part of him. The Islander puts the clench on Crowder, staying in tight with his opponent as he tosses a weak right to the back of Crowder's helmet. Crowder tries to get his right free which is tied up while Mick's helmet falls off. Vukota grabs Crowder by the pant legs and achieves his patented take down maneuver. They hit the deck and the linesmen are right there to stop it.

A "fight" like this is why Vukota sometimes got a lot of flak from fight fans. He was the resident enforcer for the Islanders and it was his job to fight. Yet all too often, Vukota would choose to bail out on the scrap or end it prematurely by going for the take down. This irritated many people who would have rather seen him give it his all and stay in it. In this particular instance, Vukota's fight with Crowder was nothing to write home about. It was a boring draw as they simply wrestled briefly before Vukota got Crowder down.

Troy Crowder and Mick Vukota bump into each other and have a go, two heavyweights. As they get a grip, Crowder lands a right, but it's a light one and only gets helmet. They get in tight and start wrestling. Vukota misses a right and they continue to wrestle, Vukota keeping a strong grip of Crowder's right. Vukota then ducks to the outside, losing his helmet in the process, and then picks up Crowder's left leg. Vukota goes off balance though and hits the ice with Crowder on top. With both men on the ice, the officials come in. Draw in a dull fight.

Allan Stewart starts mixing it up with Mick Vukota at a faceoff and the gloves come off shortly after play starts. They get a grip with the right and Stewart misses three lefts. Vukota lands a left and then Stewart misses another left, locked out nicely by Vukota. Vukota then throws two lefts, landing one on Stewart who switches hands. Vukota switches hands too and lands a right just as Stewart throws a right which misses. Then Stewart misses another right as Vukota lands a right that knocks off Stewart's helmet. Vukota then misses a right and Stewart ducks his head. Stewart switches hands, throws two lefts, and lands one that dislodges Vukota's helmet. Vukota switches hands and misses a left and Stewart falls to his knees. Stewart gets up and switches hands, missing a right while continuing to duck. Vukota steers Stewart into the boards and takes him down. Not a bad fight but not very good. Win Vukota for landing more.

Vukota lands with both hands popping Stewart's helmet off with one punch. Stewart has trouble connecting but does land one decent right. As they move over to the boards, Vukota throws Stewart down and throws a few more on the ice. As he skates off, he threatens to punch Bruce Driver.

Vukota and Stewart decided to drop the mitts. Alan missed a couple of left hands. Mick landed a couple of average lefts and missed a punch. Stewart missed a punch and landed an average right.

Vukota landed an average blow and a couple of solid connects. Stewart landed a couple of decent lefts. Mick landed a partial connect. Alan missed a right and a left. Vukota went for the takedown.

I rate this as a narrow win for Vukota. He landed more punches and with better pop. He didn't land with big impact, but he landed with enough effectiveness to secure the win.

Short exchange to kick off the bout with Vukota landing 3-4 and Stewart 1-2, then it becomes a wrestling match with not much happening from there, narrow win Vukota.

The camera cuts in just a couple seconds too late, so we miss the very start.

It looks like Troy Crowder and Rich Pilon were lining up near each other for a faceoff in front of the New York bench. Before the puck has even dropped, Pilon has pounced on Crowder. Pilon jumps on him and tries to throw a couple punches, but he doesn't connect.

Crowder is wrestled to his knees with Pilon over him. Crowder flips Pilon over his back and onto the ice, and then the officials stop it. It was an uneventful draw that didn't even warrant major penalties.
