Todd Ewen clear win Fun
5
Wayne Van Dorp, now with the Quebec Nordiques, drops the gloves with Todd Ewen of the rival Montreal Canadiens, the fourth fight between these two. Ewen moves in and they get a grip on the other's jersey with Van Dorp throwing three rights and lands two. Ewen wrestles Van Dorp against the bench boards, getting him partially bent over them. Van Dorp gets Ewen's helmet off as Ewen connects on a right. Ewen then connects on two rights while Van Dorp manages to work himself off the boards. Ewen gets Van Dorp bent over while they wrestle and throws three rights, connecting on two as they go to the ice. Ewen lands a right as he's on top of Van Dorp and then misses a left as the linesmen come in. Van Dorp and Ewen gets up and Ewen tries to throw more, knocking down a linesman while Van Dorp gets out of his jersey. Ewen goes to his knees on top of the linesman and Van Dorp throws four rights, connecting on three before getting his head pulled down by Ewen. Ewen drags Van Dorp to the ice and misses a left. Then the two are pried apart but Van Dorp and Ewen jaw at each other a little bit before going off. Not a long fight but they both got some punches in. Van Dorp got a few off but was then almost wrestled into the bench by Ewen. Ewen got some punches in then and took Van Dorp down as he tried to regain positioning. The linesmen got in but Ewen wanted to continue and then Van Dorp threw some punches too. Win Ewen in an okay battle.

Todd Ewen decisive win Fun

The actual fight was OK, but the drama afterwards made this an entertaining battle. Van Dorp landed a decent punch and missed a couple of blows. Ewen quickly had him pinned over the Nordiques bench. He landed a solid blow, missed a punch, and landed an average punch.

Van Dorp was unable to get any leverage with his feet off the ice. He was pulling Todd's hair. Ewen landed a couple of solid blows and the refs were stepping in. Todd missed a punch and landed a pretty good one as the refs were trying to separate the men.

The guys continued to rumble. Ewen tried to grab Van Dorp, but he was tackled by an official. Wayne took advantage by landing an average blow, missing a punch, and landing a couple of decent shots. Ewen was pissed and tried to land a final punch, but it was intercepted by an official.

I rate this as a decisive win for Ewen. He landed several effective punches before the extracurricular drama unfolded. He had Wayne pinned on the ice and was still punching. I don't think Van Dorp was in a good position before the officials stepped in.

Todd Ewen and Wayne Van Dorp renew their mini rivalry as they drop the gloves for the 4th time in their careers. The battle takes place right in front of the Quebec bench. Van Dorp gets in two rights to the side of Ewen's head. However Ewen muscles Van Dorp up against the bench and pins him there. Ewen actually lifts Van Dorp off the ice and Van Dorp is unable to gain any purchase or footing.

Ewen lands two rights as his helmet goes flying off. The Montreal tough guy takes advantage of Van Dorp's balance issues as he pumps him with several rights. Ewen hammers Van Dorp with four right hands as Van Dorp loses his balance and he falls to the ice. Ewen hits him with another right before the officials move in. Van Dorp is angry and embarrassed over being manhandled and he doesn't want to stop. Van Dorp hits Ewen with two rights as Ewen is on the ice over top of the official before the linesman is able to get him away.

Ewen demonstrated his strength in this fight as he manhandled the 6'4 225 pound Van Dorp fairly easily. Ewen of course was no slouch at 6'2 and 230 pounds. Ewen used his strength to prevent Van Dorp from getting any footing as he pinned him against the bench. This allowed Ewen to gain the upper hand and get a fair number of punches in. The officials had to step in to stop Van Dorp from being pummeled making this a decisive win for the Montreal enforcer.

Entertaining scrap begins in front of the Quebec bench. Van Dorp throw some rights that hit helmet and Ewen shoves him halfway over the boards by the players' bench. Van Dorp is only able to get one skate back on the ice as Ewen hammers away with rights until he gets him down to the ice. The linesmen try to get in between them but Ewen is not content with his overwhelming victory and bulls his way through linesman Ron Finn in an attempt to heap on some more punishment. He pushes Finn down to the ice and onto his back. Finn won't let go though so with Ewen on his knees on top, Van Dorp who is now upright, reaches over and throws some punches at Ewen. Since he is being restrained by the other linesman, he's not able to do much damage. Ewen manages one more punch attempt before they're totally separated. Some kind words are exchanged by the combatants before they leave the ice.

They square off in front of the Nordiques bench. Ewen quickly gets the upper hand in this fight as he pushes Van Dorp almost over the boards. Ewen pummels Van Dorp as he goes down. The fight could have been over right there and then if the linesmen hadn't been so clumsy. Finn wasn't so much to blame as the other one who was unable to control Van Dorp as they both threw punches at each other with the linesmen all draped over them. Both players were quite pissed off after the fight.

All Ewen in this one. Ewen gets the upperhand real quick and has Van Dorp half into the Nordiques bench. A lot of punches thrown in and over the linesmen but an otherwise decisive win for Ewen.

Quick one sided fight in front of the QUE bench. Ewen hammers Van Dorp with unanswered rights and pummells him to the ice. Decisive win for Ewen. Van Dorp was embarrassed and linesmen had trouble separating the two fighters.

Ewen missed part of the 1990-91 season with strained ligaments in his right knee, an injury suffered during this game at Quebec. The injury required arthroscopic surgery, and Ewen did not return to action until Montreal's Jan. 15, 1991 game at Minnesota.Reply

Mario Roberge narrow win Fun

Darin Kimble and Mario Roberge drop the gloves during a stoppage in play in the last minute of the first period. They grab on and Kimble misses two rights before Roberge misses a right. Roberge and Kimble then go toe-to-toe with rights, Roberge throwing seven and Kimble throwing six. Kimble lands two and Roberge lands three, then they pause after. Roberge misses a right and then Kimble throws two rights, landing one. Roberge then gets his right out of his jersey and Kimble moves in closer to try to neutralize that advantage for Roberge. Roberge lands two rights and then lands a right that knocks off Kimble's helmet as Kimble misses a right. Roberge then throws five rights after, landing two while Kimble ducks and then wraps his arms around Roberge to get in tight. Kimble misses a right before Roberge misses three rights as they wrestle around. Then Kimble misses a right and Roberge is unable to loosen up his right so the linesmen come in and break it up. Decent go between these two tough guys. Roberge landed more and gets the win.

This was a good fight. Kimble landed a partial connect, missed a punch, and landed a solid right. Roberge missed a blow and landed a solid shot. He missed a punch and landed a solid right. Darin missed two punches and landed an average blow. He missed a couple of shots. Mario missed a punch and landed an average blow. There was a pause as Roberge adjusted his grip.

Mario landed a solid shot. He tied up Kimble's right arm well. Darin missed a couple of blows. Roberge grabbed Darin's leg and it looked like he wanted to go for the takedown. Kimble stayed strong on his skates. Mario landed an average punch and missed a blow. he landed an average connect and a solid right. Darin missed a couple of shots. Roberge missed a blow and landed an average connect. He missed a punch, landed a body blow, and missed a shot. The refs stopped the fight in a clinch.

I rate it as a clear win for Roberge. Kimble landed effectively early, but Roberge landed a few more effective blows. I thought Mario won the fight by a comfortable margin.
