Snepts has the puck against the boards in his zone right around the faceoff circle when Roenick skates in and hits Snepts so hard against the glass it knocks it out of it's partition...this hit leads to a massive brawl. Fun

Glen Featherstone wants a piece of Jeremy Roenick so Keith Brown steps in and takes on Featherstone. The referees get invovled between Brown and Featherstone but they are still throwing punches when they are fully split up. Featherstone then throws a suckerpunch on Brown while they're broken up. Then Jeremy Roenick gets double-teamed by Darin Kimble and Rod Brind'Amour. Meanwhile Michel Goulet and Kelly Chase pair off in the brawl when Goulet intercepted Chase who was going after Roenick. Brind'Amour doesn't do anything while Kimble pounds away on a non-aggressive Roenick. The linesmen get in there before any serious damage is done. Harold Snepts and Trent Yawney get in a fight but it isn't much and a linesman breaks it up before it gets going. Gino Cavallini fights with Steve Larmer but that fight also isn't very good though Cavallini comes out on top. Then everything is done and over with so the game gets on. Wild brawl but none of the real scraps were very good. Fun

Featherstone goes after Roenick for the hit on Snepts, but Brown steps in. The refs are in the way trying to separate...this gives Brown the opportunity to get Featherstone's jersey up around his head and fires a couple of nice uppercuts. Featherstone spends the rest of the fight firing blind shots over the 2 refs until the end when you can see Featherstone peeking out from his jersey and nails Brown in the face with a pretty nice shot...if you remember the Beavis & Butthead The Great Cornholio episodes, that is what Featherstone looked like with his jersey covering his head and only his face showing.

Featherstone goes after Roenick for his hit on Snepst and Brown steps in for Roenick. Featherstone doesn't really care, immediately landing a couple of left hands. The rest of the fight is fought over 2 refs who try separating them. In the tussle Brown lands one to the body at close range. He is then subdued by his linesman while Featherstone goes on throwing punches over his, hitting the Brown's linesman several times, despite his own linesman jerseying him.

Even though nothing much lands, I give it to Featherstone for doing far more than his opponent,

Featherstone lands better in the early going. Then the linesmen jump in, but one of them doesn't have a very good hold of Featherstone and he is able to throw some sucker shots at Brown.

In the brawl Snepst pairs off with Yawney. He shoves Yawney very aggressively and Yawney has no option but to respond. Snepst proceeds with short right hands over the arm of Yawney, but the arm deflects all his punches. A linesman intervenes and manages to separate them. Yawney throws a right hand around his body and misses.

Snepst does more than Yawney in this fight but fails to land a punch.

Snepts and Yawney are against the boards, but in too tight to get any decent shots and there are players all around. You do get a nice view of Snepts bald spot on the back of his head during the fight

Chase initially went after Roenick but Goulet stepped in. The Blues feed didn't show all of this fight, but just enough to see that nothing much took place before they fell to the ice together wrestling.

Couldn't really see that much. At first they went to the ice wrestling, then a little later you could see them wrestling along the boards. Didn't see any punches thrown because the camerawork, but there might have been some punches thrown when camera was focusing on other scraps since they got fighting majors.

In the brawl Kimble goes after Roenick who tries to hang to another St. Louis player. Kimble extracts him from the melee and proceeds with administering a beating using both his hands. Both linesmen eventually come in and rescue Roenick who didn't drop his gloves.

Unfair fight because Roenick neither fought back nor intended to fight back.

Chase wanted to fight JR, but Hawk players stopped Chase. Roenick tried to pull Brind´Amour away from Goulet. Then Kimble pulled JR near the boards and suckered JR. Brind´Amour was also pulling Roenick at the same time so it was a two on one situation and some Hawk players almost leave their bench to help thei star player but the refs came in and separated JR, Kimble & Brind´Amour...

Graham drops Stevens around center ice, Brett Hull nearly scores a goal (hits the post), then play is stopped and Stevens. Chelios is being the tough guy is jawing with Oates. Players are milling around and Manson calls out Stevens, but it doesn't happen (yet). Stevens goes after Chelios, who is bothering Hull, and Manson pulls Stevens away again but the refs are in the way and they separate. Murray and Gilbert are trying to get at Hull, but Jeff Brown is in the way. This scrum lasted a pretty long time and players were changing up while it was going on. Fun

The second brawl of the game evolves as players converge by the St. Louis Blues' net. Scott Steven triggers the brawl as he gives Wayne Presley some shoves. Then some players go after Garth Butcher but the guy he ends up fighting is Steve Thomas. Their tussle isn't very good and never really gets started. Meanwhile Wayne Presley ends up paired off with Jeff Brown. They go at it and the result is an even draw. Then Stevens and Dave Manson, two skilled but rugged and tough defensemen square off in the corner. They end up in the neutral zone where they engage in a good, active, fight. Manson gets the edge and then it is broken up when they go down. Then Glen Featherstone and Mike Peluso drop the gloves and their fights ends pretty fast and in a draw. That is the last event of the brawl. This brawl had less activity than the first but the fights were considerably better. Fun

These two start grappling behind the Blues net a few seconds after Butcher and Thomas start going. It's an eternal hug fight where all the punches are short right hands to the back and back of the head. Eventually, they drop to the ice right behind the net. Brown ends up on top and they spend an awfully long time dawdling there.

Dave Manson clear win Fun

Stevens and Manson had a grudge stemming back to the incident where Dave hit Scott over the head with his helmet and allegedly bit him. Manson claimed Stevens tried to gouge his eyes. These two had a score to settle.

This was the main event of the St. Patrick's Day Brawl. The Blues and the Black Hawks were in the "Chuck" Norris Division. There was a lot of fireworks in this game. Stevens and Manson went out to center ice. They wanted space to fight and all eyes on the heavyweight battle. This was for bragging rights.

Scott landed an average blow. Dave landed a decent shot, missed a punch, and landed a solid connect. He missed a punch and landed an average shot. Scott missed a couple of rights. Manson landed an average left. Stevens landed a solid punch and missed a shot.

Manson missed a punch, landed a decent blow, and missed a couple of shots. Stevens missed a left and two rights. Dave landed an average shot and a couple of pretty good blows. Scott missed a punch. Manson grabbed his legs and wanted the takedown. Stevens remained on his skates.

Manson landed a partial connect and a solid shot. He slipped to the ice. Scott landed an average blow. Dave missed a punch while lying on his back. The refs stopped the bout. Stevens had a cut over his eye and was leaking a good amount.

I rate this as a clear win for Manson. Dave landed the more powerful punches. Stevens landed some effective punches, but Manson landed two or three more blows and the punches were visibly more substantial.

Stevens was an excellent fighter in his early years. He had wins over Bob Nystrom and Bubba Beck. Scott also had a big win over Jay Miller. He was a powerful heavyweight who could fight with the toughest guys in the NHL.

Scott was still formidable in the 1990's, but he was no longer one of the best heavyweights around. He had increasingly more trouble with men whose primary role was enforcing. Stevens was an outstanding player who was perhaps the most destructive open ice hitter in NHL history.

Stevens had incredible battles with Eric Lindros. The wunderkind got the better of Scott in fighting, but Scott got the ultimate revenge with some devastating hits that shortened Eric's career. Lindros had serious concussion problems. This was when head injuries were becoming more noticeable to average fans. Concussions shortened the career of Eric's brother Brett as well.

When you watch Scott's devastating blows, you wonder how he would fare in today's game. When he was playing, it was deemed acceptable to nail a guy in the head if his head was down. The onus was on the puck carrier to have his head up in those days. Now, the pendulum has come full circle. Many of the devastating hits Stevens used to land with regularity would very well lead to suspensions in the present day NHL.

Stevens did a lot of damage on the ice. He was a good fighter and a great hitter. As time went along, Scott doled out most of his punishment via big checks. He remained a formidable fighter, but he had increasing difficulties with the likes of big heavyweight fighters like Manson. This was not the case when he was young and had success against veterans like Beck and Nystrom.

There is a big 9-on-7 brawl and this is the main event at center ice.

Both go with their rights at first, Manson being the more aggressive of the two. They tie each other up, Stevens frees his left hand and throws two punches, one of them connecting. Manson responds right away with a right that misses but puts Stevens on the defensive. Manson then takes over the initiative and throws 3 big ones. One of them, a right uppercut, lands. Manson then adds another uppercut which does more damage to Stevens than the first one. Manson tries a big right but Stevens ducks it and Manson's attack is over. He then goes for Stevens' leg, apparently aiming to wrestle him down and end the fight. Stevens wants to come back and will have none of it. Manson then decides that attack is the best defense under the circumstances, separates himself from Stevens and throws a couple of big rights. Only the second one clips Stevens on the back of the head, but he loses his balance and they both go down. Each has time for one more punch before the linesmen dive on top of them.

Stevens ends up cut pretty badly near his left eye.

Manson was in command in this fight, but IMO Stevens hit him better with two punches that were spot on. Manson threw more punches but only his uppercut did connect. Still edge Manson.

Stevens lands a good one early but Manson took over after that landing a solid uppercut and some others before they fall to the ice. Stevens got up with blood running from the area near his left eye.

Stevens surpringly holds his own in this fight but Manson is just too much for him and busts him open and Stevens bails on the fight. Stevens had this coming all game. Stevens threw some delayed checks in this game. He was in the middle of all the scrums.

These two come out to center to get away from the brawl. Stevens lands 2 good punches to start. Manson starts throwing and hits helmet but he lands a uppercut tha buckles Stevens, the best punch in the fight. Nothing else significant lands and they fall down.

I counted 5 facial-punches by manson and only 1 facial punch by stevens ... and that shot by stevens was at the very beginning of the fight. Clear win for manson.

3 minutes into the brawl, this last act suddenly breaks out. They both throw left hands, landing one each before Peluso slips and drops to his knees. As they are being separated by the linesmen, Peluso suddenly throws another punch, clipping Featherstone on the face.

They each land a decent left but Peluso's shaky balance puts him on the ice. When he gets up, he lands one more left as he reaches over the official.

The NHL suspended Peluso for 10 games (automatic suspension) during the 1990-91 season for coming off the bench during the second-period fight between teammate Dave Manson and Scott Stevens in this game vs. St. Louis -- a game later dubbed the "St. Patrick's Day Massacre." The NHL ruled that Chicago coach Mike Keenan had deliberately sent Peluso and Stu Grimson out to fight St. Louis stars Adam Oates and Brett Hull as retribution for an earlier fight involving Chicago stars Jeremy Roenick and Steve Larmer. The NHL suspended Peluso on March 21, 1991. Keenan was also fined $5,000 for his role in the incident, and Chicago complained that Stevens, who had also come off the bench, was given special treatment because his suspension was limited to two games. As a result of the suspension, Peluso remained out for the rest of the 1990-91 regular season before finally returning to action in Game 4 of Chicago's first-round playoff series at Minnesota on April 10, 1991.Reply

They collide at center ice and Chelios makes it rougher than necessary, as usual. Brown stabs him with the blade of his stick in the mid-section and Chelios drops like a bucketload of crap, wildly exaggerating the damage. Emotion
