Darren Banks collides with Adam Burt and both go down. Banks gets up and is met by Paul Gillis with a bump but Gillis is quickly shoved away by Glen Wesley. Scott Daniels who dangles the gloves at Banks wanting a fight. Daniels is grabbed by Dave Poulin while Banks drops the gloves and wants to fight as well. However Jim McKenzie barges into the fray, grabbing Banks from behind, which knocks him down, and then punching away at him. Gillis gets up and enters the scrum, pairing off with Wesley and wrestling him away form the pile. Brent Hughes grabs McKenzie from behind so Burt comes in and hauls Hughes off of McKenzie. Daniels then jumps in on Banks on the ice despite still being held by Poulin. Steve Konroyd leaves the pile holding onto Gord Murphy while the linesmen focus on breaking up McKenzie and Banks. A short scrum that escalated and died down fast but everyone got involved with Banks in the middle of it all. Fun

Jim McKenzie targets Darren Banks in the scrum after both Paul Gillis and Scott Daniels failed in their attempts to get at Banks. McKenzie grabs Banks from behind which causes Banks to lose his footing and go down in the middle of the crowd. A linesman immediately gets a hold of McKenzie who throws six rights down at Banks, landing three while Banks just reaches up and grabs McKenzie but cannot do anything to fight back. The linesman is able to restrain McKenzie and pull him away from Banks though as Daniels piles in trying to get at Banks as well but is held back by Dave Poulin. Clearly an unfair fight since McKenzie jumped Banks who never could fight back.

Nothing, just a big scrum and McKenzie might have thrown punch or two at Banks in the middle of it all.

Scott Daniels and Darren Banks tried to fight earlier but instead of squaring off, a big scrum developed and the two never came together. In the second period, both guys are out so they decide to drop the gloves and square off to try and fight again. Banks misses a left wide and then Daniels moves in so they both get a hold on the other. Banks throws four sweeping lefts, landing one to the side of the head and one to the top of the helmet as Daniels ducks. Daniels gets in tight and then misses two soft rights as Banks stands back and loses his helmet. Banks misses two rights underneath and lands a right as Daniels lands a right. Daniels then misses two fast rights and Banks lands a right to the body before Daniels throws three rights, landing one to the body and one to the back of the head as Banks gets in tight. Banks misses a right wide while Daniels misses an over the top right and then Banks misses a left wide as Daniels lands a short right jab to the side of the head. Banks wrestles Daniels to the ice where the linesmen break them up. Alright tilt between these two heavyweights. Draw.

Jim Agnew clear win Fun
7
During a stoppage in play Brent Hughes and Jim Agnew get into an entertaining dust-up. Both men start the fight off throwing rights while in tight. Agnew gets a couple rights in to the side of the head and misses with his other punches. Hughes is missing with his punches, as he is throwing his rights in the wind. The two men get in close and wrestle. Agnew suddenly switches hands and he rocks Hughes with three lefts, knocking his helmet off in the process. Hughes manages to get Agnew's helmet off as well and he misses with a right. Agnew connects with a left to the body.

Agnew then quickly goes back to his right, surprising Hughes with a flurry of blows. He tags Hughes with five shots including one that snaps the Bruins' tough guy's head back. The linesmen see the situation worsening for Hughes and wisely intercede. Jim Agnew displayed an impressive tactical maneuver in switching hands. Hughes was clearly not prepared for that and was outslugged here. Agnew landed many more punches than Hughes and his shots were harder so he gets the clear win here.

Agnew didn't play much in the NHL and the 1992-1993 season was his last career season of hockey. Agnew suffered several debilitating knee injuries which severely hindered him.Ultimately Agnew would have three surgeries on his left knee. His injuries prevented him playing full time with Vancouver who drafted him. The Canucks would end up releasing him and he signed with Hartford. However Agnew only played 16 games with the Whalers in the 1992-1993 season. After re injuring his knee during training camp, Agnew decided to retire.

However Agnew displayed some courage during his brief time in the NHL. Agnew established himself as someone who was not afraid to take on superior opponents out of his weight class. Despite being a light heavyweight who weighed less than 200 pounds, he took on the likes of Joey Kocur, Tie Domi, Kevin McClelland, Tim Hunter, Gord Donnelly, Kevin Maguire, Shawn Cronin, and Jim Kyte during his brief 81 game NHL career.

Additionally Agnew even managed to avenge his TKO loss to Tie Domi in February of 1992 by putting a pretty good beating on the Winnipeg tough guy nearly a year later. Domi was one of the top fighters in the league so that is no small feat. He also managed to defeat Gord Donnelly not once but twice and Donnelly was no slouch either. It's a shame Agnew's career was so brief and hampered by injuries.

Jim Agnew narrow win Fun

Hughes was as brave as they come, but he was a below-average fighter. He slugged it out with Agnew. Brent got off to a pretty good start. He landed three average rights and missed a couple of punches. Jim missed a punch and landed a couple of average blows. He landed a decent shot.

Hughes landed an average right and missed a punch. Agnew landed a body punch and a solid blow to the head. He missed a shot and landed a couple of solid left hands. Brent missed a punch and landed a partial connect. Jim missed a punch, landed a couple of solid blows, and landed an average punch. The refs stopped the contest.

I rate this as a narrow win for Agnew. Hughes got some effective punches in during the early part of the bout. Jim landed the more substantial blows and was in the driver's seat down the stretch. He came on strong to earn the win.

Jim Agnew clear win Fun

Brent Hughes checks Eric Weinrich and gets shoved by Jim Agnew afterwards. Hughes turns and sheds the mitts with Agnew before they grab on with Agnew getting in close. Hughes throws three rights, landing two to the helmet, and then tries to get Agnew's helmet off. Agnew gets his right going and then Hughes gets his right going so they exchange punches toe-to-toe, Agnew throws eight rights and lands three, one to the side of the head, to the forehead, and to the body while Hughes throws ten rights and lands six, all to the helmet. They pause as Hughes tries again to get Agnew's helmet off while Agnew switches hands. Agnew throws four lefts and lands two, one to the chin and one to the helmet that sends it flying off. Hughes misses a right and gets Agnew's helmet finally off as Agnew switches hands after landing a left to the body. Agnew lands a right to the side of the head and then lands a right to the chin as Hughes misses a right. Agnew throws four rights and lands two to the side of the jaw as Hughes lowers his head. The linesmen come in and they break it up. Definite win to Agnew in this one. Hughes was throwing them well early and landed a bunch but none were effective since all were to the helmet. They each lost their helmet at roughly the same time but Hughes was unable to get much offense going afterward while Agnew got both hands going and landed well with each. Not a long fight but lots of punches thrown for the duration.

Spirited battle. Hughes threw and landed more early, but all his punches hit the helmet. Agnew came back strong and landed a couple of good ones that snapped Hughes' head back and linesmen got in shortly after that. Edge Agnew for landing clearly the best punches.
