Stu Grimson narrow win Fun
7
Grimson and Chase mix it up in front of the Hawk net and one of the linesmen makes an attempt to head off any trouble. The players square off as they move away from the zebra and Grimson wades in first, throwing some big right hands. He tosses the first 8 punches of the fight and lands the majority of them, one to the body and the rest to the head area as Chase tries to defend against the early flurry. Chase throws a few defensive rights that miss as he tries to keep Grimson at bay. Grimson lands 2 more before they clinch at close quarters momentarily. Chase switches to the left and lands a couple to the helmet that were probably knuckle busters more than anything. Grimson throws a right that is blocked by Chase's left elbow pad but he uses his strength and tugs down on Chase to get him off balance, bringing him down to a knee. Chase recovers quickly, rising to his feet and getting the better of the latter stages of the fight, connecting with some short, straight rights to the face while big Stu had difficulty landing some lefts. After ducking a Grimson left, Chase starts to slip and Grimson rolls over him ending the fight. Narrow win for Grimson. Good comeback for Chase but Grimson did enough at the outset to give him the overall edge.

Stu Grimson narrow win Fun

Ed Belfour makes a save and smothers the puck for a whistle just under half of a minute into the game. Kelly Chase and Stu Grimson then get together and they choose to go. The linesmen attempt to stop it but Chase and Grimson get away from them during the square off and then get a grip of their opponent's jersey with the left hand. Grimson immediately starts throwing a series of ten rights, connecting with seven as Chase waits at first, then goes off balance, and misses three rights once he reestablishes his footing. Grimson waits and Chase moves in closer on Grimson. Grimson barely lands a right, then they wrestle about for a while. Chase switches hands and opens up with three lefts, connecting with two that get Grimson ducking. Grimson comes back with a right that misses and Chase switches hands, missing a right as they wrestle. Grimson attempts to jersey Chase, knocking him off balance but the jersey stays down and Chase gets back to his feet and lands one of three rights after Grimson misses a right. Then Grimson switches hands while standing back and misses a left. Grimson stands back again but Chase connects with a left and Grimson misses a left again. They both fall down afterwards and the officials step in to separate the two. Pretty good tilt, fairly long and both guys were active in throwing punches. Chase did a decent job against the much larger Grimson and had the upper hand in the later rounds. However Grimson started off strong and overall, landed more punches. Narrow win Grimson.

Stu Grimson narrow win Fun

This was an entertaining fight. Chase took on the big heavyweight Grimson. Stu missed a punch and landed a decent blow. He missed a couple of shots and landed a solid right. He landed a solid connect and a couple of average blows.

Chase was in an early hole on the scorecard. He missed a punch, landed an average right, and clinched. Grimson landed a partial connect. Kelly missed a punch and landed a couple of solid blows. Stu landed an average shot. Chase landed a decent connect.

Grimson jerseyed Chase, but he was unable to blind him for more than a second or two. Stu missed a punch and Chase got free. Kelly landed a decent blow and missed a couple of right hands. Grimson missed a couple of lefts and the fight was over.

I rate this as a narrow win for Grimson. Stu jumped out to a big lead and ultimately it held up, Chase landed a couple of solid shots and narrowed the margin of victory. Kelly was competitive after surviving the early onslaught.

Grimson outmuscled Chase who tried to lock Grimson's right but wasn't overly successful. No real damage done although Grimson connected with one right punch & one short right uppercut.

I don't know about these win calls for Grimson. He clearly got the better over Chase at the beginning but after this, Chase came back with some goods shots in particular with some quick jabs. Furthermore, after the first half of this fight, Grimson was missing his haymakers as Chase bent to avoid the blows of him.

Stephane Matteau clear win Fun
6
Norwood and Matteau get into a scrap along the near sideboards in the neutral zone. They toss at close quarters intially with Norwood landing a grazing right and Matteau hitting the back of the helmet with some rights in tight. Norwood's lid pops off after taking a few and he pushes back Matteau as they move down the boards. Matteau throws an uppercut to the body and comes over the top with a solid right to the head that causes Norwood to duck down. Matteau continues to be the aggressor, tossing several more rights but with less impact as Norwood holds him off a little better. Norwood tries a right but it falls just short because Matteau has him locked out effectively. Matteau throws the last 5 blows with his back against the boards, connecting with a couple before they're separated. On the break, Norwood reaches up to his left eye, presumably to check for blood. There may have been some but it wasn't obvious on the clip. Clear win for Matteau. Norwood never really was able to get his right arm free and Matteau was the far more active puncher.

This was a good performance by Matteau. Norwood landed a decent right. Stephane landed a decent blow, missed a couple of shots, and landed a decent connect. Lee missed a right hand. Matteau landed a solid blow, missed a punch, and landed a pretty good shot. He missed a few punches and landed an average blow. Norwood landed a decent connect. Stephane missed a punch and landed an average blow. He missed a shot and landed a decent connect. The men clinched and the refs stopped the bout.

I rate this as a clear win for Matteau. He had a big edge in punches landed. His blows had solid pop as well.

Great showing by Matteau here, Norwood does his best to keep Matteau tied up but Matteau will none of it as he punches his way to some space then proceeds to pummel Norwood, landing big uppercuts and hard rights till Norwood just gives up and hugs Matteau to end the fight.

Garth Butcher decisive win Fun

There's a gathering of players in the Hawk zone and Butcher roughs it up with Kucera and Sutter along the outside of the scrum. Butcher dangles his gloves and both Hawk players skate at him as if they want to go but Sutter drops the gloves and they grab on. Butcher gets Sutter bent over forward and delivers several rights, knocking Sutter's helmet off. He switches to the left and lands a solid uppercut. Sutter never throws a punch as he just stays bent over in a defensive posture while Butcher throws a few more lefts and one more late right before the officials step in to stop it. Decisive win for Butcher. A one-sided fight.

Garth Butcher knees Brent Sutter, then Kevin Miller is knocked down by Brian Noonan. Play is called when Miller wants a fight with Noonan. Other players come in and prevent that fight from occuring but Butcher is challenged by Frantisek Kucera and Sutter. Sutter is the one who drops them with Butcher. Sutter immediately ducks his head. Butcher goes with the right and starts tossing uppercuts on Sutter. Butcher throws ten and seven land. Meanwhile, Sutter loses his helmet and keeps ducking. Butcher then goes to the left and chucks more uppercuts, four in all and three connect. Then the linesmen wade in but Butcher goes back to the right and lands one last uppercut on a still ducking Sutter. Sutter never threw a punch, he just hung on and took many of the uppercuts Butcher threw. Okay tussle although it was totally one-sided.

The play was getting chippy on the ice. Sutter and Butcher were hacking at each other. Brent was pretty upset with Garth and wanted to go. The men dropped the mitts and the fight was on.

Butcher established a good grip on the back of Sutter's collar. He pulled his head down with the left hand and landed effective rights. He missed a punch, landed a solid blow, and landed a couple of pretty good uppercuts. He landed a solid shot and missed a couple of punches. He landed a decent blow.

Sutter grabbed hold of Butcher's right arm and Garth switched to throwing lefts. He landed three pretty good shots and an average punch. The refs decided to stop the one-sided contest.

I rate this as a decisive win for Butcher. He landed several blows that were very effective. He put a beating on Sutter and this was a very one-sided bout. Brent was taking heavy incoming fire and the stoppage was a good one.
