Daryl Stanley clear win Fun
5
Pierce checked Stanley behind the net and Daryl didn't like the fact that there was a long follow through after the hit. Stanley began pushing and shoving and the two decided to have a go. Daryl went with a series of right hands. He landed a decent blow with his first attempt. He landed a couple of solid connects. He missed a punch. He landed two good right hands.

Pierce tried to slug it out with Stanley. He missed a blow and landed two decent shots. Daryl had a solid grip on Randy's right arm and this mitigated the effects of the blows. Stanley missed with a couple of rights and landed a decent left. Pierce landed two light right hooks to the body before Daryl tackled him to the ice.

I rate this as a clear win for Stanley. He landed more shots and with much better pop. He landed a couple of good rights along the way and a couple of solid shots. Pierce landed a couple of head shots and a couple of body blows. His punches only had decent pop. He was overmatched against the big Flyer heavyweight.

Daryl Stanley clear win Fun

Randy Pierce bumps Daryl Stanley off the puck along the endboards and Stanley doesn't like it. Stanley grabs Pierce and roughs him up, pushing him into the boards before stepping back. Stanley wants to go and Pierce decides to go too. They grab on in close and Stanley lands a right to the helmet. Pierce misses a right and Stanley lands a right weakly to the helmet. Pierce misses two rights as Stanley lands two rights and Pierce lowers his head. Stanley misses a right but after Pierce misses a right, Stanley throws four rights and lands three to the helmet. Pierce gets against the boards and then Stanley changes hands. Stanley throws two lefts and lands one to the helmet while Pierce gets off the boards but goes to the ice. The linesmen then get in and break it up. Clear win for Stanley in an average fight.

The scrap started in the corner. There was a short toe to toe - spell at the beginning. Stanley landed the harder shots here and took control of the scrap. He switched his hand later and took Pierce down at the end.

Doug Sulliman clear win Fun
6
Ray Allison and Doug Sulliman drop the gloves at the blue line away from the play. They grab on and wrestle but soon open up with Allison missing a left and Sulliman missing a right. Allison gets in tight but Sulliman gets some space soon afterwards, losing his helmet but landing a right. Allison changes hands and lands a right as Sulliman lands a right and Allison lowers his head. Allison struggles to hold on and eventually loses his hold of Sulliman and stumbles around as Sulliman throws a series of twelve rights and lands six, mostly to the helmet and body. Allison manages to grab on again and gets in tight on Sulliman. They wrestle and Sulliman misses a right before Allison misses a right. Allison changes hands and misses a left, then Sulliman wrestles Allison into the bench boards. Sulliman's jersey comes off and Allison changes hands. Allison misses a right and gets off the boards as they wrestle and the linesmen move in. Pretty good tilt with Sulliman controlling it and landing more and better punches.

Doug Sulliman clear win Fun

This was a spirited bout. Allison missed a left and landed an average right. Sulliman landed a solid connect, missed a punch, and landed a decent connect. He landed an average blow, missed a punch, and landed a solid blow. Ray missed a couple of lefts.

Sulliman continued to score. He landed a solid shot and a couple of average blows. Allison missed a right and a left. Doug landed a decent shot. Ray wrapped up his arm at the end until the refs stepped in to separate the men.

I rate this as a clear win for Sulliman. Doug landed several more blows and some of them were solid shots. It was a one-sided contest. It was not decisive because Allison had him in a secure clinch at the end.

Dave Brown narrow win Fun
3
This was a quick fight that you would miss if you blinked. Behind the play Torrie Robertson checks rookie Dave Brown into the boards. That leads to both men dropping the gloves Brown gets his left hand going right away. He connects with two punches on Robertson who is ducking down. Robertson loses his balance and falls to the ice as does Brown. The linesmen pile in and no further action takes place.

Brown landed the only punches in a brief fight to get the win.

Dave Brown narrow win Fun

Brown and Robertson squared off. Torrie was covering up and trying to hold on the inside. Dave landed a solid right hand. Robertson's balance was poor from the start and he slid to the ice. Brown connected with a solid left hook. The refs stopped the bout shortly thereafter.

I rate this as a narrow win for Brown. Torrie was not on his feet long enough to wrestle and get Dave in an advantageous position. Dave capitalized right away and landed a couple of effective blows. I don't think Brown did enough damage for the fight to be considered a clear win.

Ron Sutter got rid of the puck and a Whaler tried to send it up the ice. Rich Sutter tried to corral the loose puck. Marty Howe stuck out his leg and nailed Sutter in the knee. Rich was hurt badly and was on the ice for quite awhile. This led to a line brawl where Glen Cochrane pounded Sylvain Turgeon. Ed Hospodar climbed on the back of Cochrane and landed a few punches.

This was a dirty leg-on-leg hit by Howe. This was something that could have been avoided. This was a cheap move that can very well cause a serious injury. It took a long time for Sutter to get off the ice.

Rich Sutter takes a short pass over the red line and as he gets towards the blue line, Marty Howe steps up to check Sutter. Sutter sees it and chips the puck off the boards to get it in deep. After releasing the puck, Sutter tries to get past Howe but Howe deliberately sticks his leg out as he's unable to body Sutter. Howe and Sutter go knee-on-knee and Howe is spun around but stays up while Sutter is sent sprawling to the ice. Sutter stays down, obviously hurting from the knee by Howe. A trainer comes out to attend to Howe while an angered Glen Cochrane instigates a fight. A cheapshot by Howe as he clearly stuck his leg out to hit Sutter. Emotion

Marty Howe knees Rich Sutter who stays on the ice and Glen Cochrane goes after Sylvain Turgeon. Cochrane drops the gloves and starts punching away as Turgeon is slow to drop the gloves and just hangs on. Ed Hospodar grabs hold of Cochrane from behind and drops the gloves. That brings other players in as Brad McCrimmon grabs at Turgeon as Hospodar starts punching Cochrane. A linesman tries to protect Turgeon as he goes to the ice and the other linesman jumps on Hospodar. Brad Marsh tries to get into the crowd but he's pulled back by Ray Neufeld and then grabbed by Howe. Howe goes to the ice and brings down Marsh as well. They break up quickly and skate off while McCrimmon grabs at Hospodar to pull him off Cochrane. The linesmen get them all apart without incident although Cochrane emerges from the pile pretty angry. Fun

Glen Cochrane clear win Fun

Marty Howe injures Rich Sutter on a play in the neutral zone. Turgeon is following along behind the play when Cochrane runs him into the boards. Turgeon turns away and so does the camera. When the camera cuts back, Cochrane throws 3 rights at Turgeon connecting on 2 of them when Hospodar reaches in to grab Cochrane and starts throwing punches at him. They all fall in a pile on the ice. Clear win for Cochrane. It more than likely was unfair but since the beginning of the scrap was off camera, it would be only a guess on my part. Turgeon didn't throw his gloves off until he was already getting hit, indicating he probably wasn't ready to rumble.

Glen Cochrane decisive win Fun

Cochrane was furious in the aftermath of Marty Howe's leg-on-leg hit on Rich Sutter. He was looking for someone to go after. He started to pound on Turgeon. Sylvain was not looking to go with one of the most dangerous heavyweights in the NHL.

Cochrane started to pound him. He landed a solid blow and four shots with pretty good pop. Ed Hospodar became the third-man-in. He jumped on Glen's back and landed a few blows.

I rate this as a decisive win for Cochrane. He was scoring with a series of power punches. Turgeon would have been in big trouble the longer this one went on.

Glen Cochrane rubs out Sylvain Turgeon along the boards but Turgeon spins away from Cochrane afterwards while a whistle stops play. Cochrane goes after Turgeon and drops the gloves, getting the jump on Turgeon who just lowers his head and grabs Cochrane. Cochrane throws a series of seven rights and lands four while Turgeon drops his gloves early on but does nothing else but hold on. Ed Hospodar sees the one-sided fight and decides to jump in. Hospodar grabs Cochrane from behind and drops the gloves as Turgeon goes down to the ice. Decisive win for Cochrane as he was punching away on Turgeon who did nothing but hold on from start to finish.

I think the unfair should be changed. The start of the fight isn't caught on camera so it's impossible to know whether Glen Cochrane suckered Sylvain Turgeon.

It definitely looks like Cochrane jumped Turgeon though since Turgeon didn't drop the gloves until after getting punched by Cochrane. Is that enough to call it unfair?

Not according to the rules. As long as there's doubt about Turgeon never intending to fight back, calling Unfair for this reason is wrong.

Cochrane is working over Turgeon with punches when Hospodar grabs Cochrane from behind, dropping his gloves in the process. He misses with a big right as Cochrane is going down to the ice with Turgeon. Hospodar then lands a right to the head and at least one to the body before a Flyer comes in to grab Hospodar. This was unfair since Hospodar suckered Cochrane while he was still involved in the first altercation.

Ed Hospodar is third man in on the fight between Glen Cochrane and Sylvain Turgeon since Turgeon just holds on and had only dropped his gloves after Cochrane started punching. Hospodar drops the gloves after grabbing Cochrane from behind and throws six rights, only landing two while forcing Cochrane bent over and then to the ice. A linesman grabs Hospodar to restrain him while Brad McCrimmon also grabs at Hospodar. McCrimmon and Hospodar pair off in the pile and end up wrestling off of Cochrane and Turgeon. The linesmen break them up to end the mini-brawl. An obviously unfair fight because Hospodar was third man in.

Hospodar was the third-man-in for the Cochrane-Turgeon altercation. He stepped in as Glen was busy pounding Sylvain. Ed jumped on Cochrane's back and landed three punches. He landed two average rights and a decent blow.

I rate this as a narrow win for Hospodar. He landed a few moderately effective blows. This was an unfair fight as Cochrane had his back turned and had his hands full with Turgeon. He could not defend himself from Hospodar's assault.

What business did Cochrane have mixing it up with a total finesse player such as Turgeon anyway? Typical Flyer BS. Kudos to Hospodar for stepping in, and if you ask me Cochrane got what he deserved when Hospodar suckered him.Reply
