Dave Brown narrow win Fun
3
Dave Brown battles with Marty McSorley down low and Brown holds McSorley's stick. McSorley kicks the puck away and then Brown grabs McSorley and drops the gloves. Brown lands two lefts as McSorley drops his gloves and then grabs Brown, moving in close right away. They wrestle and Brown lands a short left before McSorley misses a short left. Brown misses a left and continues wrestling with McSorley for a bit. McSorley lands a right but then Brown connects with a left before they wrestle a little more. Then Brown misses a left and as they keep on wrestling, the linesmen wade in between them McSorley lands a right as Brown lands a left. Brown throws three lefts and lands one as the linesmen get in and bring an end to the scrap. A dull fight, most of the time it was just them wrestling. Brown landed more and better punches to get the edge on McSorley but McSorley did rather well in keeping a strong hold on Brown's left hand, especially after Brown got the jump on McSorley to start things.

Dave Brown narrow win Fun

Brown and McSorley were in the play and Dave shoved Marty and threw the first couple of punches. He missed a punch and landed a solid left hook. Both men grabbed the arm of the other. Marty had a solid grip on Brown's left. Dave had a firm grip over McSorley's right shoulder.

This was not a very good fight and there was a lot of attention paid to various grips. The men threw sporadic infrequent punches. Dave missed with a left. Marty missed with a right. McSorley connected with a decent right. Brown landed a solid left. Dave landed a partial connect and missed a punch.

The refs stepped in to stop the snooze-fest. Brown got in a couple of additional partial connects. As soon as the ref pulled McSorley's hand off his shoulder, Dave threw a series of lefts. Nothing big landed. Brown landed a couple partial connects and missed a couple of blows.

I rate this as a narrow win for Brown. He landed two solid left hooks in the contest. He did not land any damaging blows, so the victory was narrow rather than clear. This was a boring and disappointing scrap between two excellent fighters.

Dave Brown narrow win Fun

Dave Brown and Marty McSorley collide behind the Pittsburgh net as McSorley tries to protect the puck. Brown keeps the pressure on McSorley and he eventually decides to fight him. Brown drops the gloves and grabs McSorley, hitting him with two lefts. Although Brown got a bit of a jump on him, McSorley gets his gloves off as well. However the two don't do much initially besides hang on and grapple. McSorley eventually throws a short right that is ineffective and Brown answers with a left that connects. They continue grappling with Brown coming up short with a left. The linesmen decide to move in but just as they do, Brown suddenly hits McSorley with two late blows before the officials can fully grab him.

Brown gets the decision for landing the only punches. However he did have a cheap start and finish to the fight. This would be a sign of things to come as Brown was one of the toughest fighters ever but he could be very cheap at times too.

Dave Brown clear win Fun

Brown quickly dropped the gloves and threw 2 punches. Then McSorley dropped his and grabbed a hold of Brown. They both tried to throw punches, but they both had a good hold on each other. Finnaly Brown got his left free and he threw 2 punches that connect, then he grabbed back on. They both hang on tight agan, until finnaly McSorley got his arm free and threw a right, but as he did that, it left Brown with an arm free and he threw four punches. Just as it looks as there gonna finnaly trade blows the linesman jump in.

Pretty useless scrap, Brown gets the jump on McSorley and lands one in the beginning. They basically just grapples after that until the zebras steps in, Brown took some swings at Marty by then.

Brown gets the edge for out-landing McSorley in this scrap. Wish this fight could've been better. Narrow win Brown.

Marty McSorley narrow win Fun

Shortly after a faceoff following a Thomas Eriksson goal, Marty McSorley drops the gloves with Daryl Stanley, McSorley's second bout of the night. McSorley throws five rights, landing three as Stanley misses just two rights early on. McSorley loses his helmet and Stanley throws four rights, connecting with one. McSorley misses a right and Stanley throws seven rights then, landing two as McSorley almost gets jerseyed. Then Stanley misses a left and they grapple. McSorley lands a right before Stanley misses a right. They continue to grapple and McSorley misses a right before Stanley connects with a right. McSorley misses a right and Stanley misses a right after, then McSorley misses a right. Stanley throws two rights, landing one as they grapple. Then Stanley connects on a right and McSorley lands a left. They grapple and McSorley lands a right, then Stanley and misses a left. McSorley throws two lefts, landing one, then Stanley misses a left. Stanley lands a right as McSorley misses a left. Stanley misses a left while they grapple. McSorley lands two rights and Stanley misses a left. McSorley misses a left and Stanley misses a right. McSorley connects on two lefts as they continue to grapple and Stanley then misses a right as McSorley misses a right. McSorley lands a right and misses a left, then Stanley misses a right. McSorley connects on a left and then throws five rights, landing two. The linesmen then step in and stop the fight. Definitely a long fight. Stanley did pretty well but was outlasted by McSorley who landed more overal and takes home the slight win. It wasn't a very good fight because they did grapple a lot but it wasn't a boring fight.

This was an interesting marathon contest, but not a crowd-pleasing spectacle. There was one shaggy fan who loved the bout, but he may have been in the minority. The two heavyweights each had a solid grip on the other man's arm for most of the contest. Marty missed a punch, landed a decent blow, missed a punch, and landed a partial connect.

Stanley missed a left and two rights. He landed a partial connect and a solid right. Marty missed a right and his jersey came up over his head. Daryl missed several right hands and could not capitalize on McSorley's misfortune. Stanley landed a solid and a decent right. Marty missed a couple of punches.

Stanley landed an average right. Marty landed a solid left, missed a punch, and landed an average right. Daryl missed a left. Marty missed a couple of shots. Stanley was getting fatigued. Marty landed a couple of partial connects and a couple of ineffective raps. He landed a partial connect. Stanley missed a punch. Marty landed a partial connect, a solid blow, and an average shot before the refs stopped the bout.

I rate this fight as a draw. Stanley had the lead for the first half of the contest. He landed some effective punches. McSorley whittled away at the lead and finshed strong. In sum, both guys landed about equally in terms of solid and average connects. McSorley landed a few more partial connects over the lengthy scrap. This is like a heavyweight boxing match where a guy lands a flurry of punches at the end to steal the round. Some evaluators feel McSorley deserves additional credit for finishing strong. I feel that Stanley's strong first half performance salvaged a draw for him.
