At the end of the game Marian Hossa gets hooked by Ryan Getzlaf and responds with a shove. Getzlaf pushes back and then other players come in and the line brawl begins. Scott Niedermayer grabs Hossa as the referee intervene with the affair. Pavel Datsyuk comes in and keeps Niedermayer away. Then Getzlaf throws a couple gloved rights at Hossa. The referees then separate them. Brian Rafalski who was one of the first players to come in is grabbed by Corey Perry. They pair off and Perry moves away from the crowd. Rafalski doesn't fight back and Perry throws a flurry of rights before Rafalski goes down. The referees come in and Hossa does too. Getzlaf sees this and moves Hossa away roughly. Niedermayer who was paired off with Datsyuk, gives him a big elbow to the face, knocking Datsyuk down. Datsyuk gets up and then starts to fight Niedermayer. Both guys keep the gloves on initially but then Niedermayer drops his right glove. After a while Datsyuk drops his. It starts off even but then Niedermayer takes over the fight and other players then jump in as Niedermayer is throwing punches at an idle Datsyuk. A referee comes in and breaks up that fight, ending the brawl. Good brawl. Fun

As the game ends Getzlaf gives Hossa a hook and Hossa turns around and shoves him. A huge scrum ensues. Perry grabs Rafalski and starts teeing off on him, he lands about 5 punches before Rafalski takes a knee and it's broken up. Meanwhile Niedermayer and Datsyuk are incidentlly roughing each other up until Niedermayer lands a big time elbow then they begin to wrestle and Niedermayer drops his gloves. He starts throwing punches and Datsyuk returns fire but he still has his gloves on. Eventually Datsyuk drops his glove but there is too much interference from other players. Marchant is on Datsyuk's back and Zetterberg is on Marchant's back. Hossa is holding Niedermayer. This entire time Getzlaf has a hold of Hossa but Hossa keeps interfering with the other altercations so Getzlaf gives him a couple gloved shots then finally cocks his right fist back and let's him know that if he continues to interfere in the other scuffles he is going to clock him, Hossa stops. Very embarrassing moment as a Red Wings' fan. Fun

Hahahaha, the ducks vs. the patty-cake europeans, errrrrrrrr, i mean the red wings at the very end of the game was like watching the 3 stooges. Niedermayer & Getzlaff treated datsyuk & hossa to a little american apple pie. Niedermayer reminded me of "Mo" of the 3 stooges and he smacked datsyuk around as if he was "larry" of the 3 stooges. Fun

Id give this higher than a 7 if more than one guy threw the gloves off for the Wings. Hossa wouldnt drop the mitts till he grabbed on to Marchant or Neider.

Awesome job by Anaheim here, pretty sweet little brawl.

Pretty ridiculous that Detroit only gets the two 5's out of it all. If Hossa doesn't overreact to being hooked, none of it ever happens. Not that it really matters with the game being over and done with.Reply

with this logic then why not just let hossa and getzlaf go at it, and let hossa get his ass kicked for complaining, what the rest of the ducks did was unneeded

Getzlaf looked like a complete puss to me. First off he is starting shit with non-fighters........yet again that is as he isn't willing to drop with a legit fighter in a fair fight....but if he is going to act tough...just drop the fucking gloves. He looked like an idiot in the middle of a brawl challenging Hossa to a fight with his hand cocked back.Reply

Absolutely, we should just remove fighting from hockey! If Detroit chooses to dress a European line up that doesn't know how to fight then no one should be allowed to take advantage of them! Durr......

For the second time in three seasons, Anaheim has shown Detroit exactly how their vulnerable to NHL teams. If a legit enforcer were on that team showing these guys how to defend themselves, you can bet they wouldn't be short two guys due to fighting injuries.

I am willing to bet either D-Mac or Downey get the call in the next game...

Unfortunately, the Wings won't dress Downey or McCarty for Game 7. They will respond by beating the Ducks on the scoreboard. Its pretty frustrating though when they get pushed around, especially AFTER the game. As a Wings fan I definitely miss the old days when we had the toughest team in the league, those days are long over. But, are the Ducks REALLY tough? Guts like Perry, Getzlaf, & Niedermeyer going after non-fighting Euros? Thats not toughness, thats a bitch move. Perry got his ass kicked by Ericsson already in this series and its going to happen again in Game 7 when the Wings are up by 3 or 4 goals in the 3rd Period.Reply

What are you talking about? When did I say anything about fighting in general? Use your head.

Hossa socked Getzlaf with several gloved punches...there was more then enough reason for Getzlaf to drop the gloves and start swinging without the chance of suspension....especially when game 7 is the next game. Theres no way in hell the league is suspending the playoffs top scorer for a elimination game.

I think you may be watching it in 'HD'. If you look on the bottom corner, there is a button which says 'HD', when I clicked on the video, 'HD' was on and the video wouldn't play properly. I clicked it off and it worked fine with the quality clearly lower.

SarcasticPillow, you're right, the HD facet of the video was the problem all along, and with a flick of the button, it's now corrected, thanks for the info. However, i watched the video and the YouTube version didn't show the whole niedermayer-datsyuk fight because in the original television broadcast, another camera isolates the niedermayer-datsyuk fight which shows niedermayer landing more punches and also giving datsyuk a wicked elbow----- which reminded me of the way "mo" smacked "larry or curley" around of the 3 stooges, lol.Reply

At the end of the game Ryan Getzlaf hooks Marian Hossa who replies with a shove. Getzlaf pushes back and then other players coverge on the scene, stirring up a line brawl. Scott Niedermayer jumps in on Hossa and a referee comes in as well. However Pavel Datsyuk comes in and separates Niedermayer from Hossa. Getzlaf then grabs Hossa and throws two gloved rights, landing one well on Hossa. Other referees come in and split them up while more rough stuff breaks out. Corey Perry then fights with Brian Rafalski (who doesn't fight back). After the fight ends, Hossa goes over to where Perry is on top of Rafalski. Getzlaf rushes in and plows Hossa away. Hossa and Getzlaf pair off again but a referee comes in and splits them up. Fun

Corey Perry decisive win Fun

A bunch of rough stuff breaks out as the game ends and Corey Perry quickly pairs off with Brian Rafalski who drops just one glove and ducks his head as Perry gets both his off and gets Rafalski's helmet and visor off fast. Perry throws seven rights and lands five to the head of Rafalski who can't keep his balance and crumbles down to the ice under the bigger Perry. A linesman hurries in to prevent the fight from getting more one-sided. Decisive win for Perry as Rafalski went down and had to be protected by the linesman. Bad fight though.

Simply stated, Rafalski wasn't interested in fighting Perry because it was his first game back. Rafalski looked like he lost footing or size to Perry and had to turtle. I couldn't tell if this would be a considered a fair fight or not; I guess I'll have to wait for the video.

As the scrum begins to form Rafalski comes roaring in from the point. Perry intercepts him with a crosscheck into the boards and grabs onto him and drags him away from the pile. Perry just tees off on Rafalski, who looked unwilling to fight, until Rafalski drops to a knee and the referee breaks them up.

I don't think should be unfair either, these two start to go and Rafalski had at least one glove off and was wrestling with Perry, he just got pounded by Perry and covered up in the end, but I wouldn't say he didn't never tried to fight back and obviously the refs thought so too because Rafalski got a fighting major too. Two good examples of "never intended to fight back" are Domi turtling against McKenzie in 01/02 and Probert covering up against Maguire in 80's.

I'm probably going to get a lot of crap about this, but I've watched the replay several times in slow motion and it doesn't look like the elbow hit him in the face. Niedermayer tried to, but it looked liked the elbow missed to the side of Datsyuk's head (hitting him on the shoulder) and Niedermayer's forearm/fist is what hit him in the face.Reply

Scott Niedermayer narrow win Fun

Pavel Datsyuk and Scott Niedermayer end up paired off with each other and Niedermayer suddenly spins around and cracks Datsyuk right in the face with a big elbow. Datsyuk goes down but gets up and goes right back at Niedermayer, both of them grabbing onto each other. Datsyuk lands two gloved right as Niedermayer drops his right glove. Niedermayer lands a right and then misses three rights after Datsyuk lands a gloved right. Datsyuk then throws two gloved rights and lands one before dropping his glove as Niedermayer drops his left glove. Niedermayer throws five rights and lands three before other players come over to try and get in. Marian Hossa tries to get to Niedermayer but he keeps away from Hossa and lands two rights as Datsyuk just puts his head down. Hossa then grabs Niedermayer who stops throwing and lets go of Datsyuk. A linesman then breaks them apart and ends the fight. Decent scrap between two superstar players. Niedermayer was clearly the aggressor here, landing all the punches with the gloves off and getting the win.

Niedermayer threw an elbow in Datsyuk's direction. Unlike the other Red Wings, Datsyuk was willing to defend himself. He threw a few gloved punches and couldn't tell if he was ever able to get both of them up, but considering the elbow Niedermayer threw before hand, I can't say it wasn't in his right to leave the gloves on. I call it a draw.

Niedermayer and Datsyuk are roughing it up outside the scrum for a while until Niedermayer throws a spinning elbow that clocks Datsyuk in the face. Things heat up and Niedermayer drops his gloves and starts throwing punches, Datsyuk returns fire with his gloves still on. Datsyuk eventually drops his right glove but by that time Niedermayer had already landed 4-5 punches on him and Marchant, Zetterberg, and Hossa were interfering with the fight so that was as far as that went.

I don't know if this should be called unfair. They grabbed onto each other both started swinging then Niedermayer landed about six unanswered punches and a few players jumped in and grabbed on to Datsyuk, Niedermayer did not throw any punches once players grabbed Datsyuk.

Clear win Niedermayer for landing his flurry, one of the best forwards in the game vs one of the best defensemen.

This was fair fight for fucks sake, they started going at it, of course a euro like Datsyuk doesn't know how to fight so he was throwing a few punches with his gloves on before he finally got his gloves off. Niedermayer landed a bunch of rights and then other players got in but before that it was a fair fight and Niedermayer clearly won it. Datsyuk was lucky it was Niedermayer fighting instead of someone like Pronger, in that case Datsyuk would have been out from game7 with a broken face.

Hossa and Getzlaf were roughing each other up and Niedermeyer comes in, too. Datsyuk pulled him away from Hossa. Datsyuk turned his head and was watching Rafalski and Perry. For no good reason, Niedermeyer throws a very cheap elbow at Datsyuk. Datsyuk fell to the ice. He got back up and got a hold of Niedermeyer. Datsyuk and Niedermeyer were throwing a couple of punches, but unfortunenly for Datsyuk, he was unable to get his second glove off. Then more players came over to the both of them and Niedermeyer got his hand free. He threw a couple of more punches, then the fight was broken up.

DRAW. Both players were throwing a couple punches. Niedermeyer really did not throw anything big, and also only threw good punches when players were around them.

Why is this unfair? Other players interfered because Datsyuk was getting decisively beat. This was a fair fight.Reply

this was fair, you should read re's review, other players jumped in after Niedermayer had already landed a bunch so he won the fight. you're a Wings fan but there's no need to call every fight unfair where Wings euro pussies get beaten.Reply

I'm just going to leave fights as they are from here on out, everyone has a different opinion on whether a fight is fair or not and it's frustrating changing it back and forth, I was under the impression "too much interference from other players" was a legitimate unfair call so I made it, but I'm taking it off now.Reply

Unless the interference didn't influence the outcome as happened in this case. By the time other players came in, the outcome was already beyond doubt.

No need to be frustrated, calling Unfair correctly is one of the most difficult things on the site. Well done canceling the call.

The key to calling Unfair is avoiding calling it when not 100% sure. You don't HAVE to call it. If there's a slightest doubt, leave it as it is. If the fight was Unfair, someone else will eventually call it.

Phew! Glad the team of men knocked out the girlie Ducks. Order restored. Would've been embarassing if wings lost this series to a team of sissies.Reply

Don't talk about the Ducks as a Sissie team... look at the red wings, they can't defend themselves and their toughest player is... euhm wait... Datsyuk?Reply

So, soft=winner and tough=loser? Now theres a contradiction if i ever heard one lol

Beeing tough is a wide conception. Dropping the gloves is just a part of that. But the fighting in hockey is embarrassing to see. Grabbing the opponents jersey so he can't get his arm free, and just wrestle.. Pathetic to look at. Waste of time.

Taking a big hit and get up and keep going even though your in pain, that's what i call tough. Standing in the crease taking alot of abuse and still keep going back there a.k.a Holmstrom, is what i call tough. Guess some people have different views on things they think is tough.

So the toughest team won, and the team with the most "fighters" lost. Simple as that.

sweden, the red wings have had the LOWEST amount of fights in the past 4 to 5 years, look at their team record of fights, it's lop-sided. So you're wrong when you call the ducks sissies because they generally lead the league in fights all the time since randy carlyle took over as coach.Reply
