Sidney Crosby has dished off the puck and is trying to advance into the Detroit zone, skating alongside the boards. Johan Franzen skates backwards into Crosby to hit him against the boards. If Crosby stayed on his feet, it would have been a body-on-body hit and I think he would have been fine.

However, Crosby tries to get around Franzen's hit by jumping around it, and Sidney makes it a whole lot worse for himself. Franzen's hip and lower body drive into the leaping Crosby and knock him hard into the boards. Crosby reacts with pain, hunching over and slowly skating to the Pittsburgh bench. He leaves the bench for the dressing room and doesn't return until the third period (where only plays a single shift).

I think Franzen's check caught Crosby directly in the groin and gonads. The announcers were talking about a "knee injury", but judging by where Franzen's hip caught him and how he hunched over, I think Sid got his nuts cracked. If he stayed firmly on his skates, it wouldn't have happened.

Not a big Crosby fan, eh, Storm? ;)

Shreve: so it WAS a knee injury? Well, he's got the summer to recover. Luckily for him, his teammates definitely carried the ball. The MVP could have gone to Fleury; he saved their collective asses in that final game.

After the Red Wings' Game 5 5-0 shutout victory, I had more than a few doubts about the Pens' chances in the last two games. In Game 7, after watching Sid leave the game, I thought the cause was all but lost. I figured that Detroit's old pros would, at the very least, tie the game. I remember the look on Zetterberg's face when he realized he didn't have to worry about Sid anymore, and he could concentrate on working for a goal. Very bad news for Pittsburgh. I didn't think we would have much chance of winning in OT, in the Joe, after losing a lead. I didn't think the Pens were physically punishing the Red Wings' defensemen sufficiently. And then, when Lidstrom had the puck on his stick in the last few seconds, I was sure he was going to bury it. The crowd at the Joe would have exploded, and I don't think the Pens could have possibly rallied to win in OT. The Red Wings are a fantastic team, and are a good bet to win the Stanley Cup again next season. I can hardly believe I'm posting this, but I've actually BECOME a fan of Detroit - particularly Chris Osgood. He doesn't play a spectacular flashy style of goaltending, but he certainly has to be regarded as among the very best in the NHL now. I'll be very interested to see the changes that Detroit makes in the off-season. Detroit is an opponent to cherish. Fun

I don't mind the Pittsburgh Penguins winning the Stanley Cup. The Detroit Red Wings have won it plenty of times in the past 12 years.

The only thing I don't like about a Penguins victory is that Miroslav Satan, a gutless slug, rode his teammates' coat-tails and got a Cup ring. As a Sabres fan, I couldn't stand Satan, a talented player who only showed up when he felt like it. A player like him doesn't deserve to have his name inscribed on the Cup.

Don't know why my comment was erased.

It's relevant.

Marian Hossa sucked in the playoffs and my team would have been better off without him

As for the philly fans who are decrying the success of the Penguins and calling them the "Mets of PA"... that is a pretty idiotic position

The Penguins have won the Stanley Cup three times since the Flyers last won it in 1975 (one of TWO cups they have won)

If the measure is championships (one would think that is the whole point of playing in the first place) then the Penguins have it over the Flyers, simply by virtue of having more championship banners hanging in the rafters

How did Hossa suck during the playoffs? I wasn't happy the way he played and he was a little invisible out there especially in the finals but he was 6th on are team when all was said and done and he was actually like 3rd going into the finals. There is no way the Wings were better off without him. And sorry but saying that then following it up by calling a good joke "pretty idiotic" means nothing.

Got a good laugh out of the "mets of PA" but sadly the Penguins are actually getting love in Pittsburgh right now. There a winning team. 5 years when Crosby and Malkin get split up and the Penguins turn back into the team they were 5 years ago then the Flyers fans will be able to talk.

The finals are what seperate the players who are champions from the players who are chumps... Hossa VANISHED when the Red Wings could have used him the most... as for them being better off? With essentially the exact same cast, they won the Stanley Cup LAST YEAR without MARIAN HOSSA... this year, they had him, he contributed nothing to the 7 most important games of the season and they LOST to his OLD TEAM

Of course they were better off, they acheived a championship without him... with him, they lost... he was lazy and did NOTHING during the Stanley Cup Finals... inexcusable
