Probert and Odelein get tied up along the boards, Probert gives Odelein a couple pushes and the gloves come off. Probert hits Odelein's helmet with a quick right right off the bat. They start to wrestle along the boards, both throw a couple rights that don't land as they have a good grip of each other. Probert throws a couple rights to the body. Probert tries to take Odelein's helmet off, throws a couple more rights to the body, then misses with one and Odelein is now able to take Probert down. When Probert is down Odelein hits his helmet with two rights before the linesmen get in. Not a very exciting fight by any means. Probert was in control and landed only punches when they were standing, but nothing significant. When Probert lost his balance Odelein was able to land a couple of his own, so overall it was a draw in my book.

Donald Brashear narrow win Fun
4
Two young rookies square off here for a fight in the Montreal forum. Donald Brashear has only had one career NHL fight up to this point and it was pretty much a nonevent against Troy Mallette. Darren McCarty on the other hand has been playing the whole season with Detroit (unlike Brashear who only played a few games after being called up) and he has been one of the more active fighters in the league.

They clench and McCarty lands a quick left while having his helmet fall off. Brashear lands two lefts while McCarty lands a short left himself. Brashear tries to switch to the right and they wrestle. McCarty tries to sneak in another quick left but it fails to connect. This opens up Brashear to use his right and he does. Brashear hits McCarty with three rights before they tumble to the ice, McCarty missing with a left as they tumble down.

The fight started out even between these two southpaws. However Brashear's quick flurry with the rights toward the end was enough to swing the punch count in his favor and earn him the victory in this fight.

They square off and come together with McCarty's helmet coming off, Brashear lands 2 lefts to the side McCartys head. McCarty throws a right at Brashear and Brash responds with about 5 lefts which some looked to land as McCarty tried to duck the punches they start to lose their balance Brashear falls and pulls McCarty down with him as McCarty lands a shot to the ribs while Brashear is down. Probert was eying Brashear in the penalty box like he wanted to kill him.

Donald Brashear narrow win Fun

Donald Brashear and Darren McCarty come together with both of them wildly throwing what looks more to be slaps then punches. They come together with Brashear throwing a weak right to McCarty's body, McCarty appears to land a right to Brashear's head. Brashear responds with a flurry of 5 lefts landing maybe 3 and they fall to the ice with McCarty on top. Narrow win for Brashear as he landed a few in that late flurry.

Darren McCarty and Donald Brashear square off and a linesman tries to get between them as they flail at each other. The linesman decides to back out and then McCarty moves in, throwing two lefts and landing one as they come together in tight. Brashear throws two lefts and lands one and then misses two rights while they wrestle. After a pause McCarty lands a left while Brashear misses a left but Brashear then throws five rights, landing three afterwards. McCarty loses his balance and goes to the ice where the linesmen jump back in to break it up. Draw. McCarthy with slightly better and Brashear with slightly more.

This was a below average scrap. McCarty missed a punch and landed an average left. Brashear missed a shot and landed an average blow. Darren landed a partial connect. He missed a couple of blows. Donald landed two or three average connects in his last flurry.

I rate this as a narrow win for Brashear. I think Donald landed a couple of more shots in the fight. He was the busier and more accurate puncher.

It was hard to see if any of Brashear's punches landed, but I don't think any damage was done. Mostly in-tight wrestling.

The camera at first shows Brashear fully grabbing on and hugging in, so no action occurred at that point in time. Then a spectator's head fully blocks the camera. Then by time the camera has a good view of things, both guys are tumbling down to the ice and the refs are there to stop it. N/A is the call here.

Bob Probert clear win Fun

At this point in his career, Bob Probert had established himself as the best fighter in the league. When this game started, Donald Brashear was a rookie who had fought just one time in the NHL. Brashear contributed two points in the game, and became involved in his second career NHL fight against fellow rookie Darren McCarty.

Late in the game, Probert challenged Brashear to what would be the first of nine fights the two great heavyweights would have. A very nervous Brashear was hesitant to get close to Probert, preventing the two from ever grabbing on to each other.

After a square-off, the two came close and Brashear missed a wild left. After a few moments, Probert attempted to get in close enough to grab Brashear, but Brashear slapped his hand away, and tried to grab onto Probert unsuccessfully. Probert went for a right that couldn't reach, and Brashear missed with a left. Brashear came in and actually touched Probert's jersey with his left hand, but backed off as soon as he saw Probert move his left hand. Probert continued to attempt to grab Brashear, who threw a left that didn't reach. The two came together again, both missing a punch, and Brashear pushed Probert's helmet off. When Probert came in again, Brashear missed a wild left. Probert went at Brashear, missing two rights as Brashear missed two lefts and a right. Brashear threw a wild left and right that missed, as Probert landed a left and missed a right. An off-balanced Brashear fell backwards. The linesman came in between the men, with Probert angrily throwing a right at Brashear, clearly unsatisfied with the fight and desiring to continue.

Probert landed the only punches and clearly won this fight against a young Brashear. In an interview with Ron Spence in Stan Fishler's book THE ULTIMATE BAD BOYS, Brashear said "I was so nervous that my legs were shaking. I lost my balance as we squared off and just fell. Probert landed a punch or two and that was the end of it. That happened to me in my first few fights; I was falling at the start because I was so nervous. What I learned was that successful hockey fighting is all about confidence. It's all in the head."

Brashear would look a lot better against Probert in their future meetings, and even beat the legend a few times later in his career.

Bob Probert win by TKO Fun

Never seen anything like this but I really enjoyed it. A boxing match here...

They drop the gloves and square off. Probert comes in and dodges a right and a left from Brashear as he backs out. They then stand up close, no grip with the knuckles up. Probert tries to grab on but Brashear just slaps his hand away. Brashear then threw some rights and lefts that Probert dodged. Probert then threw a right that Brashear dodged and threw rights and lefts of his own missing all of them. Again they pulled out and Brashear tried to grab on but Probert backed up and was ready to keep boxing. Probert then went to grab on and took a big left. They backed up again and Probert came in throwing a right that was blocked and he took a good uppercut knocking off his helmet. Probert backed up again and moved in where he dodged a good left cross. Probert then came in throwing jabs having them blocked as Brashear threw quick rights and lefts missing them as well. They backed up again and did some fakes at each other. Probert then came in with a big left connecting on it. Brashear went off balance and landed some quick rights before being sent down by a right from Probert. Brashear came up but the linesmen came in. Probert chased down Brashear and nailed him with a solid right as the linesmen where in there. Probert tried to pursue Brashear but he slipped and fell on his ass.

Probert with a TKO in the first round to regain his heavyweight championship. I've never seen two guys box it out like this, as they never grabbed on in this fight. We will probably never see this again but it was pretty awesome.

Bob Probert comes in and challenges Donald Brashear to a fight and they both drop their gloves and square off. Brashear swings a wild left hand at Probert that misses the target, as both guys take up boxing stances and look for their chance to throw a punch.

Probert throws out a jab that hits air and Brashear throws out four fast punches with both hands, but again nothing has landed yet. They stay standing up like two boxers and neither has grabbed a hold of the other player yet. Brashear then thinks about coming in and grabbing on, but decides not to and backs away from Probert.

Probert reaches out with his left hand but Brashear parries it away, and throws a jab a Probert. Probert then decides to get the fight going by coming in and throwing a big right hand at Brashear. The punch falls short but it puts Brashear off balance and he stumbles about for a second or two on his skates.

Brashear steadies himself and just misses with a big left hook that Probert backs away from. Probert comes in again and throws two right hands at Brashear, with Brashear throwing a few back at him. Probert then lands a right hand that knocks Brashear off balance, but Brashear is quickly back up again. The lino's then come in and Probert lands one more punch on Brashear as they are split apart.

Probert lands the only good punches of this fight knocking Brashear off balance with one punch, before landing a second when Brashear got up again. The lino's then stopped the fight with Probert getting the win. This looked like a boxing fight on ice.lol.

Clear win Probert.

Bob Probert vs. Donald Brashear / Dec 18, 1993

These two tangle and decide to drop the gloves, Brashear made the first move throwing a wild left at Probert that just missed. Both guys then shadow boxed with Probert looking for an opening in Brashear's guard so he could stick one on the Canadians tough guy. Probert then threw a back hand at Brashear that missed and quickly Brashear went in to try and grab but failed.

Probert then tried to grab on with his left but Brashear didn't want to brushing Probert's hand away. Probert then went in again but Brashear was intent on keeping his distance as he started grappling with Probert to avoid his grab. Probert then started losing his temper and was nearly caught by Brashear who swung another wild left at Probert.

Probert managed to duck the shot and immediately gather himself and throw a right at Brashear which again missed and Brashear managed to get a parry on the second shot. Probert then started ducking around as Brashear threw a jab and a uppercut at Probert intent on catching the big guy, Probert managed to catch Brashear on the inside and knock him down but Brashear was quickly back to his feet.

Probert then skated at Brashear taking another wild swing at Brashear and once again catching him, the lino's then desperately tried to keep these two apart one pulling Probert down and the other pushing Brashear away towards the penalty box. The Canadians had pretty much taken the Red Wings apart and Probert wanted to get at Brashear bad.

This turned into a boxing match on ice with Probert getting in two shots at the end with the first knocking Brashear off balance. And the second when the lino's were trying to brake it up, Probert gets the win on points in an entertaining bout.

Clear win Probert.

Big rookie enforcer, Donald Brashear was recently called up from the American Hockey League for the Montreal Canadiens and after tangling with a fellow young tough guy in Darren McCarty, he steps in for teammate, Kevin Haller, who is pushing and shoving with veteran enforcer, Bob Probert of the Detroit Red Wings. Brashear and Probert drop the gloves and they square off. Brashear throws a left that misses as Probert to moves in to grab onto Brashear who just backs away steadily. Brashear misses with an couple attempts to grab on with Probert missing a right on the second try. Then Brashear misses two lefts as they continue to square off. Probert is more aggressive in trying to grab on but then Brashear lunges in and grabs Probert but immediately lets go and backs off. Probert then tries to grab Brashear a few times but misses every time and Brashear misses a left after the third attempt. Probert continues to move after Brashear who backs off but they then come together, Probert missing a right as Brashear misses a left. Probert then misses a left and loses his helmet as they break apart and continue the square off. Probert moves in and Brashear misses a left that is dodged nicely by Probert. Probert moves in again and misses a right as Brashear misses a left and a right. Then Probert misses a right as Brashear misses a left and then misses a right after. Probert moves forward towards Brashear who backs up and then Probert connects with a good left. Brashear grabs Probert and misses a left while Probert misses a right. Brashear falls down, losing his grip of Probert in the process, and the linesmen grab Brashear. Probert still goes for him and lands a right before getting thrown to the ice by a linesman. Very unusual although entertaining fight. They squared off and never really grabbed on, just continued to square each other up the whole time. Brashear definitely fought conservatively, backing up most of the time while Probert was the aggressor and was trying to grab on more. Both attempted a bunch of punches but nothing landed until the end where Probert got in a couple. Win Probert against a far younger and less experienced fighter.

This was a bizarre contest. Brashear was throwing punches from the outside in a spastic manner. Probie was patiently wading in and trying to establish a grip. Donald missed a left hand by about a foot. He threw a few slapping lefts and rights. Probert appeared to be patiently waiting for an opening.

Donald missed a left, landed an average shot, and missed a punch. Bob missed with a couple of rights. Brashear was back on his heels throwing more punches in a spastic manner. Probie missed a left and landed a solid right. Donald went down, but he was off-balance and back on his heels even before the punch connected. Bob landed a solid right after Donald got up. The refs stopped the contest.

I rate this as a clear win for Probert. Brashear admitted to having the jitters in this contest. Bob had such a big reputation and Donald knew he was up against a great heavyweight in his prime. Brashear competed the best he could. It wasn't pretty, but he would learn from his early mistakes and go on to become one of the all time NHL fighting greats.

Rookie Donald Brashear and veteran tough guy Bob Probert drop the gloves and Brashear throws a wild left that Probert easily dodges. Brashear looks scared and the fight looks more like a boxing match then a hockey fight at this point. Probert misses a right and Brashear goes to grab Probert but quickly backs away. Probert grabs Brashear and lands a right as Brashear misses with another wild left. Probert throws 3 more rights with 2 landing and Brashear goes to the ice and the linesman grab him as he gets up Probert lands a big right hand to Brashear's face. The linesman get Probert away from Brashear and it is over. Decisive win for Bob Probert as he landed the only punches and Brashear appeared to be very nervous the entire fight. I'm giving this fight a 7 because of how unorthodox the fighting style was.
