Troy Mallette has the puck at center ice. Pat LaFontaine races up from behind Mallette's backside and he goes for the puck. Mallette knows LaFontaine is coming. Mallette drops his elbow back and hits LaFontaine directly in the face. LaFontaine goes down and is shaken up but uninjured. Very dirty play and Jay Wells went after Troy Mallette immediately.

LaFontaine was wearing a full mask to protect a broken jaw and the mask certainly protected him here. Fortunately he did not injure his jaw any further after this. This was a clear cut cheap shot as Mallette intentionally threw an elbow at LaFontaine.

This was a shocker by Mallette. He knew what he was doing here. From one camera angle you can see the impact from the back of Lafontaines head there was some force behind it. Very lucky he had the full shield. Leads to a scrum but nothing really happens. Dirty

Jay Wells decisive win
Fight called Unfair by EC on Nov 2, 2009
Reason: Troy Mallette never intended to fight back

Troy Mallette throws an elbow at Sabres star Pat LaFontaine. Jay Wells sees this and races after Mallette. Wells drops his gloves and grabs Mallette. Mallette keeps his gear in place and covers up. He quickly goes to the ice. The linesmen pile in but Wells isn't done. He tries turning Mallette's head around with his left hand so he can get a punch in. The linesmen finally manage to separate them.

Scumbag move by Troy Mallette here. He throws a cheap shot at one of the stars of the other team, then turtles when Jay Wells comes after him. No excuses for Mallette who needed to answer the bell after what he did.

The fight is unfair as Mallette did not fight back and a decisive win for Jay Wells as Mallette was rescued by the officials.

After Mallette elbows LaFontaine, Wells grabs Mallette and throws him to the ice. Wells gets on top, linesmen get in, no punches were thrown, this was more of a rough really.

Play is whistled down for a penalty. Doug Bodger is behind the net with the puck and he slows up as he hears the whistle. Joe Murphy who had been pursuing him does not slow down. He throws a hit as Bodger. However as he does Murphy kicks the feet out from underneath Bodger. Both men go to the ice. Bodger was very upset and went right after Murphy. Dirty play as not only was it a slew foot but it occured after the whistle. Emotion

Doug Bodger decisive win

After the whistle goes Joe Murphy throws a hit at Doug Bodger. However Murphy ends up kicking Bodger's feet out from under him, and they both go to the ice. Bodger gets up and is furious. He drops his gloves and grabs Murphy who is on his stomach. Bodger throws two rights to the back of Murphy's head before the linesmen get involved.

Decisive win for Bodger as Murphy turtled and had to be rescued by the officials. This also makes it unfair.

Murphy drilled Bodger behind the net. Doug was upset at being upended in such a vigorous fashion. He went after Joe and Murphy just covered up on the ice. Bodger landed two solid rights. The refs stopped the fight.

I rate this as a decisive win for Bodger. Murphy wasn't looking to fight here. He just covered up as Doug went on the attack.

Murphy crushed together with Bodger into the boards. Bodger went immediately and beat on him while he was on top. He only landed 2 rights on his back then the refs jumped in.
