Off the draw both 4th lines are out. Laraqure follows Hordi around for about 5 seconds off the draw but Hordi would not answer the bell

The annoucers said Laraque has asked Hordi three times but he was instructed not to fight by the coach

I am so sick of seeing all of these refused fights in games when one team is up by several goals! What is the point of a coach telling his enforcer not to get in a fight? I know they don't want to lose momentum but if you are up by a lot of goals, I don't think a fight will make a difference. Is the other team going to suddenly score three goals right after the fight?Reply

Agreed, it's very stupid. I don't think it's respecting the code as well. Hell if this shit keeps up then every coach is gonna follow this and fighting is going to rapidly decline.Reply

The NHL is pretty stupid these days. Its not like it was back in the day. I miss the old days :(
Hordichuk is now listed as a coward.

Rick Rypien narrow win Fun
5
Rick Rypien gets into it with Hal Gill who owns an absolutely massive size advantage. They grab onto each other's sweater. Gill lands a right and Rypien connects with a left. Gill misses a right and then removes Rypien's helmet. Rypien lands two lefts while also using his left to block his face. Rypien misses a left and Gill misses a right. Rypien misses a left and Gill throws two rights with one landing. Rypien lands a left and Gill gets in close quarters. Gill misses a right and Rypien stands back and switches hands. Rypien connects on two rights, then Gill misses a right. Rypien switches hands and throws three lefts, landing two. Rypien switches hands and misses two rights. They grapple and Rypien misses a right. Rypien switches hands and misses a left and Gill connects with a right. Gill gets in close quarters and misses a right, then Rypien misses a right. Gill misses two rights and then Rypien switches hands and misses a left. The officials then move in and end the fight. Win Rypien as he did well against the much, much, larger Gill. Alright scrap.

Rick Rypien narrow win Fun

Rick Rypien has a go with big Canadiens' defenseman Hal Gill. They drop the mitts behind the play and grab onto each other. Gill takes a grazing left and answers with a couple of pillow rights to the helmet, which comes off as Rypien falls short with his own right. He scores a good left hand, using his arm as a shield - something, what you obviously don't see very often in hockey fights. Gill answers with a bunch of rights, couple of which connect slightly but Rypien gets in two more decent lefts. After a short hugging contest Rypien avoids an uppercut and scores a couple of shots to the ribs. Gill lands a right but turns away after taking two lefts from Rypien, one of which lands squarely. Rypien goes with some more body blows as they start to grapple. Gill avoids next Rick's left and fires away three right uppercuts, none of which doesn't appear to land flush. Rypien misses and the linesmen separate them.

This wasn't a great fight but it was pretty entertaining one due to the huge size disadvantage of Rick Rypien. He really overcame it and won the fight by landing a bit more and better punches. Edge Rypien.

Rick Rypien narrow win Fun

A frustrated Montreal team finally finds a Vancouver player willing to go and it is Rick Rypien with Hal Gill. Behind the play the gloves are already off with Rypien bent over as the camera arrives. Rypien does an excellent job protecting himself from any kind of punches thrown his way from the much bigger Gill. He eventually gets his left arm free and somehow lands a couple punches. Rypien quickly goes back into a defensive position, bent over throwing a few punches to the body. Gill is only able to land body shots as Rypien keeps his head low waiting for the right time to fire. Lot of credit to Rypien for the size disadvantage and better yet, he threw the better punches.

Draw Fun

Gill had a massive size advantage but Rypien is very tough for his size and holds his own. Gill got in a few more early with his reach. Rypien didn't have as much success early with his right but he landed some good straight counter lefts as Gill was hitting him with rights. Once they began to fight in tight, Rypien was the one landing more punches switching hands well and landing shots to the body and face of Gill. Gill though was also able to land some shots in tight. I had Gill with a slight edge after the first exchange, Rypien did well later in tight. This fight looked like a solid draw to me.

Hilarious fight here... behind the play they go and it's all Rypien as he tunes up Gill a bit while Gill just stands on his feet and holds on. Rypien is throwing a ton of combos, 1 to the head, 2 to the body, 1 to the head, 3 to the body, etc. Rypien takes it on punch count by a long shot but nothing too serious landing.

Pretty awakard fight, give Rypien credit for the size disadvantage..
I would even go with Draw, I only seen the fight once thus far, Ryp def landed the best shot of the fight, but I thought Gill was throwing more, add Ryp didn't have his helmet on, but Gill is a pillow puncher.

Rypien throws the only punches against the much bigger man who was just trying to figure the 5'11 Rypien out. Nothing really landed cleanly or phased Gill so I can't give it anything other than a narrow win, maybe even a draw

Despite the huge reach disadvantage Rypien picks his spots and lands more punches for the narrow win over the gentle giant.

These two drop the mits behind the play in the Montreal end. The much smaller Rypien shows Big Hal Gill what the sweet science is about. Using arm as a shield he routinely dissected Gill with several flurrys of left hands working both his face and his body. The feisty Rypien gets a standing ovation from the Vancouver crowd on his way to the box.

Love watching Rypien throw em`.

This is unbelieveable. I was soo close to Puking after this effort from Hal Gill. Honestly, I didn't know they stacked shit that high.... They drop the gloves, both landing some decent shots, I mean it was a size mismatch, but with all due respect, Rypien did get the best of the fight, there is no disputing that can be done. Rypien got the clear win, he schooled a much bigger Gill.....

For God sakes Gill, keep your damn gloves on next time, dont embaress yourself like this anymore. For shame...

And you're entitled to give your own vote as a narrow win, and you did, apparently not everyone feels the same way.

I don't know where he got 5 head shots in at. he did land a nice left on Gill, but Gill landed a nice right uppercut it seemed towards the end.

Looked like Gill also landed a right on Rypiens head right after Rypien landed that left.

Yeah I guess he did beat an aging Kocur who was nearing retirement although many think this fight was draw. Even more shocking is he held his own vs. Eric Godard a few years back and many think he won that fight as well.
Still though I see Gill as this era's Willie Huber, a giant who rarely dropped the gloves and looked really bad when he did.

At 6'7" aren't 99% of the players "shorter than he is? He has fought Chara and Neil as well but he isn't exactly a "true" fighter.
