Eric Godard narrow win Fun

Late in the game with the score heavily in the Ottawa Senators' favour Chris Neil checks Eric Godard and Godard goes back at Neil. The mitts come off and they get a hold of each other. Godard misses a right but then Neil throws two lefts with one that connects. Godard comes back with two rights, landing one. Godard then misses a right and Neil misses a right in response. Godard throws four rights, landing two as Neil misses a right. Godard connects on another right, then Neil throws three rights and lands two. Godard misses a right, Neil misses a right in reply, and Godard connects with a right, knocking off Neil's helmet. Neil then lands two rights, knocking off Godard's helmet. Godard misses two rights and Neil misses a right of his own. Godard misses a right and then Neil misses a right before switching hands. Godard misses a right and Neil then misses a left. They grapple and Godard switches hands, connecting on a left after Neil misses a left. Godard misses a left and Neil gets in tight. They wrestle and Neil misses a left. They both switch hands and Godard misses a right but then lands a right as Neil misses a right. Neil comes back with three rights, landing one and then switches hands and connects with a left. The linesmen decide to come in and stop it there. Lengthy fight. Godard used his size advantage well, keeping Neil in range while Neil wasn't able to reach Godard. A good fight and a win for Godard. Neil had a small cut below his eye.

The puck comes down to the Senator's zone where Pascal Leclaire plays the puck pointlessly up the ice as a fight breaks out. This fight is in front of the Ottawa bench, Neil starts out early by connecting with some left hands and Godard landing with the right hands. The punches are being thrown as the Senator's bench looks on, Godard is connecting with some bombs which stuns Neil and makes him bleed. Right when you think Neil is going down to the ice he comes back with a flurry of blows to Godard's face which stuns Eric Godard. They exchange some more brilliant right hand bombs to each other's face as Neil is starting to look weary again. Eric Godard throws some more that land this time switching to his left, and then connecting with a left uppercut and then pounding him with a short jab while Neil's head was down. Eric Godard looks in control but once again Neil comes back but not for long as Godard throws some short right hands that are mostly missing as Neil pushes Godard up against the boards. The two combatants exchange some more weak short jabs, that are all over the place and not really landing, when the linesman come in and break up the fight. This fight ends with Godard's hands in Neil's face.

All in all a great fight as Chris Neil gets busted open again. I would love to see Eric Godard drop the gloves a little more this year but I guess he was saving this great fight with Neil. The reason this is a narrow win due to Eric Godard definitely stunned Neil three or four times in this fight, also because Neil had the gashes to prove Eric Godard landed more punches.

Penguins' heavyweight, Eric Godard, goes at it with Chris Neil at the end of the game. Neil hits Godard, Eric answers with a couple of shoves from behind and the gloves hit the ice near the Senators' bench. Godard lands a glancing right to the helmet while Neil sneaks in one jersey jab. He takes two hard rights and responds with a couple of short lefts to the face. They start exchanging rights and Godard scores four big shots to Neil's two. Chris takes one more punch and sneaks in a couple of glancing blows to the helmet. Godard knocks off the bucket with another solid right. His bucket comes off too as Neil lands a punch square on the jaw. Chris receives two grazing rights to the back of the head and they stop throwing for a moment. Godard takes a right and responds with a pretty hard left, which looks to stun Neil and puts him out of his balance. Chris sneaks in a grazing shot and Godard answers with one of his own. Each connects flush with a right and they get in close quarters. Neil lands a weak rabbit punch as they move to the boards. The linesmen get between them and they trade a couple of jabs before being separated. Neil had a cut near the eye, as a result of Godard's left hand punch.

Very good fight with minimum defence and a lot of landed shots. Neil definitely hold his own against one of the top NHL heavyweights but Godard gets the narrow win here as his punches were clearly better and harder.

He missed a punch and landed a decent right. He landed two solid punches and missed a shot. Neil missed a blow and landed a partial connect. He landed a solid right.

Godard landed an average punch. Neil landed a decent blow and an average punch. He missed two shots and landed a decent blow. The refs stopped the fight.

I saw this as a very close contest. Neil almost salvaged a draw. I thought Godard landed with a bit better pop and he opened a cut on Chris. It was an entertaining bout.

Neil hits Godard hard and Godard starts pushing him. Neil turns around and they decide to drop their gloves and fight. Godard lands a good right to start things off. Neil misses two rights and they both exchange a miss. They both miss a couple of shots again and Godard lands a decent right. Godard lands a partial connect and Neil just misses a right. Godard lands two other rights and he lands another right before missing a right. Godard lands a partial connect and Neil misses a right. Neil misses an uppercut and lands a good right. Godard lands a body shot, Neil misses a right, and Godard lands a big right hand. Neil misses two rights and Godard lands a good right. Godard lands a right and Neil misses a right. They both exchange a couple of misses, Neil then misses a left and Godard lands a big left. Neil ducks away from another left and he misses a left. Godard misses a right, Neil lands a partial connect and Godard misses a right. Neil lands a body shot and a left. Neil lands a right and a left and another left before the linesmen finally step in there to break the boys up.

I rate this decent scrap as a clear win for Godard. Neil made a good comeback at the end by landing some okay punches to the face and head but Godard had too big an edge that he built up in the first 75% of the tilt. He landed some power punches and bloodied Neil badly.

Pretty long bout where both guys traded about the same amount of punches, but Godard gave the better shots, making Neil bleed. Narrow Godard.

Godard takes a hit from Neil then gives him a couple shoves. Neil turns and they drop them and start swinging. Initial punches are coming up short, then Godard starts connecting with some rights. Neil responds with a couple good punches himself. Both switch hands occasionally, Godard connecting with a solid left. Lot of back and forth punches in this lengthy affair. Godard landed better with at least one solid left and right that left Neil with a small cut. Good scrap. Godard with the advantage for the better punches.

Godard landed the harder punches that bloodied Neil. Neil landed a few nice punches of his own but not as much as Godard. I give Neil credit he stayed in there firing with the bigger Godard and never gave up.

Godard landed more with his reach advantage and a few hard shots early. Neil was never overwhelmed by Godard and continued firing punches of his own. Both guys landed with both lefts and rights. The second half of the fight after the good exchange to start was a lot of wrestling with both guys landing a couple in tight.

Edge to Godard for landing more and the better shots. Neil stuck in very well against Godard once again proving that he can throw with anyone in the NHL.

Good fight. Godard landed more and better and cut Neil under his eye, but Neil got in some shots too and did well against one of the top HW's in the league. Edge Godard.

Late in the game Neil hits Godard into the boards. Godard grabs Neil from behind and they toss the gloves. A good fight as both players got a lot of shots in. The fight would end with the two up against the boards.

Godard seemed to put up the better fight and Neil ended up with a nice cut. Neil may be called a spot picker, but none the less he still did drop the gloves against Eric Godard no easy task. Good fight.

Neil shows what a warrior he is in this one after sticking in there with one of the leagues toughest brawlers Neil battles hard here and takes the storm for a while as goaded connects on rights and Neil looks to be stunned but he holds on and answers back with some punches of his own, if Neil could have threw quite a few more I'd call it a draw but goaded deftly outnumbered him here in this fight throwing a lot more

Neil is a warrior.

He was stunned so many times, but kept on swinging no matter what. He had absolutely nothing t prove in this fight, yet he wanted to go the distance the whole time. This is a huge slap in the face to the hurting fans who claim Neil is a spot-picker.

XelaD2, I don't know about you but I'm in agreeance EVERY single NHL player is a spot picker. There's a time and place for all fights, if every guy accepted every fight we'd see 8 / night. I think the only spot picker is Maxime Lapierre, although some may argue he doesn't even deserve to be called that.
With regards to Neil I don't think he's a spot picker either!

LOL, I'm not being contradictory. By not being a spot picker I mean he fights everyone, but when the time is right.Reply

LOL, neil is a huge spotpicker you guys cant say he isnt because he fought godard. He picked his spots when he played the leafs last game by fighting schenn but not going with Orr. Of course its not like in either of the fights with schenn he started it but he'll go with schenn but not a legit tough guy on the leafs. He totally bitched out last year too when mayers came over to him and dropped his gloves and Neil just stood there like he didnt know what was going on. Luckily ottawa has carkner now so they can count on him to take on the heavies when neil wont.Reply

Agreed Belaknumber3, Neil will fight a heavy every so often but for the most part will stick to fighting middles and avoiding the tough guys. He did a good job here, but he's still a major spot-picker. If anything this makes him seem like more of a spot-picker showing how well he can do against a big guy with power like Godard.Reply
