Shawn Thornton VS Matt Walker February 11th / 2010
Shawn Thornton has been the Bruins' tough guy for a few years now and he has been a true force for the club. Every year Thornton seems to be looking better, and this is his 18th fight of the season, from a impressive fight card for the man. Thornton has lost some fights this year to the likes of Andrew Peters, Darcy Hordichuk, Raitis Ivanans and a devastating TKO loss to the likes of Daniel Carcillo. Despite the losses though, 4 bad decisions out of 18 fights isn't too bad at all. Thornton has fought some big boys in the eastern conference, and has some wins against Donald Brashear, Matt Carkner, Paul Gaustad and Jared Boll. Thornton is usually always in the lineup for the Boston Bruins, as they always feel a need to keep his presence in the game. Along with Milan Lucic, and Zdeno Chara, the Boston Bruins have a very tough team, that is for sure.
Matt Walker has been a little active this year as well for the Tampa Bay Lightning. The heavyweight has dropped the mitts 9 times this year including this fight. Before this fight, he lost just two fights on his fight card against George Parros and Paul Bissonnette. Walker has also won against Brian Boyle, Jay Rosehill, and Eric Boulton. Walker has been starting to drop the mitts a lot more as of late, this is his 5th fight since the 21st of January.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In what later becomes a very heated game, early in the first period approximately four minutes into the game, these two heavyweights meet up with one another along the blueline, after Walker looked to throw a check at Thornton as the puck was being played. The play continues, and further behind the two big men drop the gloves and square off. Walker has a clear reach advantage in this fight but it doesn't bother Thornton as well who is developing into a very strategic fighter.
They grab on and both men get a good hold of one another. They both throw a right hand each, I am unsure if they land, but I do believe both right hands come up a little short. Both men are shaking off some hockey gear as they continue the fight. Thornton then throws 3-4 more right hands, landing a couple of them quickly as Walker hangs on and hopes for the best. Thornton cannot seem to get his right hand free and as he is firing his punches they seem to come up short quite often. The reach disadvantage is clearly taking place at this point. Thornton then lands a nice right hand and misses with another one as Walker is throwing some left handed jersey jabs that look to be unsuccessful. Walker comes back over the top with a right hand that clearly doesn't connect because Thornton has him tied up pretty good. After wrestling around for a quick few seconds both men exchange another right hand. Thornton then gets his right hand loose and lands a nice right hand to the head of Walker. Walker shakes off his elbow pad as both men begin to wrestle around some more. Thornton lands another right hand and throws another right hand immediately after that doesn't land. They then exchange three right hands each but not doing much damage on any punch and start to wrestle around a bit as Thornton attempts to throw yet another right hand that doesn't connect as flush as he had hoped for. Thornton then catches Walker with a nice right hand that looks to hit the chin area of Walker. They wrestle around for another short period of time and the refs come in to stop the fight.
Final Decision,
Clear Win Shawn Thornton. |

| Matt Walker and Shawn Thornton drop the gloves near the penalty boxes and they both go with the right to begin with. Walker misses a weak right before Thornton throws a landing right to the side of the head. Walker then misses a right that falls short and Thornton throws three rights back at Walker who stops, Thornton lands two. They grapple and Walker starts up with some prodding of Thornton after Thornton connects with a right to the side of the head. Thornton misses two rights to the body, then Walker misses a right that comes up short. Thornton then moves inside and lands a right to the chin while Walker connects on a right to the forehead. Walker immediately bends over and turns his head away from Thornton. Thornton lands one right before Walker straightens himself. Thornton misses three rights before there's a pause in the action and then Walker misses short with a right. Thornton lands a right and Walker misses a right before Thornton connects on another right, this one to the jaw. Walker moves in closer to Thornton and then Thornton misses two rights for the jaw. They both pause and the linesmen decide to step in. Okay tussle between two heavyweights. Thornton was the aggressor, more active puncher, as well as the one who landed more and better. Clear win Thornton. |

| Average fight, a lot of holding as you can expect in a Walker fight. Thornton was a lot more active and landed the only decent shots in the bout for the edge. |

Steve Downie VS Miroslav Satan February 11th / 2010
The Bruins get the puck in deep and Miroslav Satan is skating nicely around the Tampa Bay net and dishes the puck out in front, at the same time, Satan gets caught with a big hit that sends him flying into the boards, compliments of Steve Downie. Both men fall to the ice. As Downie is about to collect himself and get back up, Satan is already up and pushes Downie in clear frustration. Downie then pushes back and as Satan looks like he is about to skate away, Downie drops the gloves and delivers a big right hand to the head of Satan. The first punch looks to shake up Satan who doesn't even have his gloves off. Downie quickly throws another right hand that doesn't connect but Satan then falls down and turtles into a helpless situation. Downie has a golden opportunity to throw some big bombs at Satan who is at that point down on the ice but Downie doesn't do it and the refs come in and stop Downie from doing any further damage to Satan.
Decisive Victory for Steve Downie.
Very unfair. |

| Steve Downie hits Miroslav Satan and they both are knocked to the ice. Satan starts roughing up Downie and the Satan backs away. Downie gets right up and loses his gloves, moving right for Satan. Downie grabs on while throwing three rights. The first one lands decently well and Satan goes down to his knees and covers up with the second and third rights miss. Downie just lets go of Satan then and skates away in the direction of the penalty box. Unfair fight since Satan didn't fight back. |

SarcasticPillow 11257 fight reviews Feb 12, 2010 12:57 ET | Zdeno Chara decisive win | Fun 4 |
| Tampa Bay Lightning agitator Steve Downie dropped the glass after some rough stuff with non-fighting Miroslav Satan earlier in the game so Boston Bruins' tough guy and captain, Zdeno Chara meets up with Downie later in the game. They mix it up as play goes up the ice and it's finally called down as Chara drops the gloves. Downie doesn't drop them, instead ducking down and wrapping his arms around one of Chara's legs. Chara misses two rights down at Downie but then switches to the left. Chara throws four lefts and lands three before the linesmen finally intercede. Downie puts his head up, lets go of Chara, and tries to skate away. Chara holds back as the linesmen are in and penalties are assessed. Downie didn't really fight back or drop his gloves while Chara threw and landed the only punches. Fairly bad fight. |

Zdeno Chara VS Steve Downie February 11th / 2010
Zdeno Chara is probably pretty pissed off at Steve Downie after what Downie had done to Miroslav Satan earlier on in the game. They skate in along the boards in the Boston zone and Chara throws a check at Downie. Surprisingly, Downie then throws a couple of gloved punches at the shoulder area of Chara, and the back of the head. Downie then looks like he is about to skate away but Chara grabs a hold of him and Downie is probably running his mouth at this point. Downie continues to throw gloved shots at Chara until he finally makes the giant angry. Chara then throws a couple of gloved shots as well and drops his gloves very quickly, filling Downie in with both lefts and rights. Downie immediately drops to the ice as Chara is just tagging him several times with big bombs. The refs finally get in there and stop the fight as Downie doesn't even have his gloves off. As soon as the refs get in and take Chara away. Downie gets up and looks at the refs with his gloves in the air as if to say "what the heck is going on here". But we all know that Downie instigated this fight and was just being a bad sport.
Final Decision,
Decisive victory Zdeno Chara.
Honestly, what was Downie thinking... |

| Downie roughs up Chara a bit who isn't going to let little Downie push him around so Chara grabbed Downie. Downie continued to push and shove with Chara and Chara swung a glove punch then dropped his gloves. Downie didn't drop his gloves but tried to take out Chara's legs. Chara didn't move an inch and pounded away on Downie with rights and lefts before the linesmen stepped in. Chara had Downie turned around at the end and if the linesmen weren't between it looked like he would have taken off Downie's head. |
