Feb 18, 2010 12:33 ET | Mullen just gets wrecked by Fitzgerald. A very clean hit as it was all shoulder into shoulder.
Mullen took the puck into Albany's zone with his head down. Fitzgerald lined him up with the shoulder and Mullen flew a foot into the air. Fitzgerald looked like he wasn't even trying to hit him hard. After the huge hit, Westgarth comes over to Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald knows that he had to drop the mitts and away they went.

| After Fitzgerald levels a Manchester player Westgrath comes in and begins to t-off on him. Westgrath lands a bunch of rights, Fitzgerald throws a couple back clearly getting the worst of the exchange. They then tied up and the linesmen came in. |

| Monarchs defenseman Patrick Mullen brings the puck laterally just inside the Albany blueline and Zack Fitzgerald comes across Scott Stevens style and buries him with solid open ice hit, knocking the smaller man hard to the ice, where he would lie for a few minutes after. Kevin Westgarth does his job and comes right over and Fitzgerald is a man and does not run, yet drops his gloves and responds. Westy quickly gets the jump, landing heavy overhand rights and following those punches up with uppercuts that nearly TKO'd Fitzgerald twice. Fitzy even dropped to his knees at one point, but got up and responded with a few right crosses of his own, that connected mostly with the helmet of Westgarth. Near the end Westy comes back and lands a couple more uppercuts that looked to effect Fitzgerald as he stopped trying to fight back and grabbed on. The linesmen smartly notice this and jump in to save the beaten combatant. |
