Gord Donnelly clear win Fun

This was a terrific fight as Donnelly and Berube slugged it out in exciting fashion. Gord landed three solid lefts. The Chief went with right hands. He missed three punches and landed a solid right. He missed a punch and the jersey came up over his eyes for a brief spell.

Donnelly landed a solid blow and three average connects. He landed a couple of solid lefts. Berube missed a couple of punches, landed an average blow, and connected with a solid right. Gord landed a pretty good shot and a solid blow. He missed with a left hand.

Berube missed a punch and landed a partial connect. Donnelly landed a solid right hand. Craig landed a solid connect and two average punches. He missed with three right hands. Donnelly threw a flurry of lefts down the stretch. He missed a couple of punches, landed two solid blows, and landed two pretty good shots. He missed a punch and pulled Berube to the ice with a jersey tug.

I rate this as a clear win for Donnelly. He landed numerous shots with above-average pop. Berube did not do a good job of eluding or blocking the incoming fire. Gord put some hurt on the Chief. Craig landed some effective shots, but Donnelly had a big edge in quality connects.

Donnelly was a good NHL heavyweight. He had a great season with his fists in 1987-88. He had good performances against John Kordic and got the better of Rambo in his prime. He performed well against a host of good heavyweights like Gerald Diduck, Tim Hunter, Shayne Corson, Kevin Maguire, and Kevin McClelland.

Gord had five bouts with Jay Miller during the 1987-88 season. He had one bad loss. Other than that, he did quite well in the series against an excellent heavyweight in his prime. Donnelly was strong with good punching power. He impressed me with speed and accuracy of his piston-like left hands in this fight against the Chief.

Gord continued to be a formidable guy with his fists, but he got beat with more regularity in the future. He caught lightning in a bottle in the 1987-88 season. He was in his fighting prime and was a tough adversary for any top heavyweight to face.

Gord Donnelly takes on a young tiger in Craig Berube. Donnelly is the ranking heavyweight in this bout and Berube is the young gun trying to earn a name for himself.

These heavyweights go at center ice. Donnelly gets the jump on Berube landing a number of rapid left hands. Berube gets his footing and begins firing away with rights. These two then exchange 10 or 11 toe to toe punches-Donnelly with the left and Berube with the right. Both fighters land some good shots. Berube's jersey gets pulled up and over his head and Donnelly readjusts himself. They trade rights but fall short. Both fighters then begin another round of toe to toe punches. Donnelly gets the better of this exchange and Berube falls down.

A great fight between these two heavies. Both went toe to toe with Donnelly getting the better of it. Berube landed some shots including one early that caught Donnelly flush, but it was not enough to win. Clear win for Donnelly.

Gord Donnelly and Craig Berube are lined up for a faceoff near centre ice and drop the gloves when the puck drops. They're quickly grabbing on and going toe-to-toe from the outset. Donnelly gets the best of the early trading, he throws fifteen lefts and lands six, knocking off Berube's helmet quickly while Berube throws four rights, landing one, and almost gets badly turned around but manages to straighten himself. Berube then throws ten rights but lands only three and has his jersey pulled off which causes Donnelly to get in tight. Donnelly has Berube turned around but Berube straightens himself again and misses three rights while they get some separation from each other. Donnelly switches hands and throws two rights, landing one before switching hands again as they open up. Donnelly throws seven lefts and lands four while Berube throws six rights but only lands one before he falls forward to the ice. Donnelly drops on top of Berube and the linesmen get in to break it up. Lots of wild swinging in this scrap but not a whole lot landed. Donnelly did much better than Berube in my opinion. Berube was throwing them but didn't really get going and had trouble sustaining much offense against Donnelly.

Quebec's resident enforcer takes on the young up and coming Craig Berube of Philadelphia. The two men would have an incredible toe-to-toe war that featured punches being thrown at blistering speed. In fact, this tilt was easily one of the fights of the year during the 1987-1988 season.

Berube lands two quick rights and Donnelly counters with two lefts that connect. Donnelly connects with half a dozen lefts while Berube lands three rights before tagging Donnelly with a big right. Berube's jersey is pulled off and he absorbs two lefts. Berube misses with two rights before landing a right while Donnelly lands a left and misses with a left.

They get in tight and Berube lands a right while missing with a couple punches. Donnelly goes with his right and he connects with a punch. The two heavyweight warriors have one last exchange. Berube gets a couple more rights in while missing with a few while Donnelly lands four lefts. Berube loses his balance and he tumbles to the ice along with Donnelly.

Tremendous fight that was a classic rock-em-sock-em robots style tilt. Berube and Donnelly let it all hang out as they just traded punches at a furious pace. Donnelly was the more accurate of the two and he had a sizable margin in the punch count, earning the clear victory. Great job by both men who really put on a show.

Looks like Berube over estimated Donnelly in this fight. Berube can never get going and Donnelly is really the only one scoring.

Awesome battle, Donnelly got it going early, and Berube responded with a good one of his own. Donnelly just plows through Berube with lefts as Berube's jersey comes off. Berube tries to get something going, but Donnelly again gets going with the lefts and Berube hits the ice.

A lot of action in this one. Both caught each other with some nice shots while trading punches, Donnelly getting the better of Berube who almost lost his jersey at the end. Berube threw rights and Donnelly lefts. Donnelly was quite a busy fighter in his days but this was surely one of his better scraps.

Donnelly was the beneficiary of some good luck and a textbook case of how not to referee a hockey fight. The men were ready to square off when an official pushed Berube from behind and caused Craig to lose his balance. Berube's legs got tangled with the official. Gord took advantage by landed a couple of average lefts and a decent blow as the Chief was trying to get up.

The men had an exchange around an official. Berube missed a punch and landed a solid blow. He missed and landed an average punch. Donnelly missed a couple and landed a few solid connects. The officials were able to wrap up the Chief before they could corral Donnelly.

Gord was a lefty and an official was draped over his right arm. Donnelly got lots of freebies on on the Chief. Gord landed two solid blows and two average punches. He missed a couple of blows and landed a solid connect. He missed a punch and landed a few more solid connects. The refs finally stopped the fight after Berube managed to get a solid left in.

The Chief was ripping mad. He was furious with the officials for giving Donnelly an unfair edge and gave them an earful. He also seemed to unleash a verbal barrage at Donnelly on the other side of the penalty box. Berube knew he got screwed and he was not happy at all.

I rate this as a clear win for Donnelly in an unfair fight. He landed a number of solid connects on an opponent who couldn't defend himself adequately. Berube landed a few effective punches, but Gord landed about three times as many. The fight was unfair from the start as an official bumped and tripped Berube before he could start punching.

Craig Berube and Gord Donnelly are lined up for a faceoff at centre ice and they want a rematch. The gloves are dropped before the puck is and a linesman heads right over to the two as they square off. The linesmen bumps Berube and knocks him down and Donnelly pounces on his downed opponent. Donnelly grabs Berube and throws three lefts, landing two while Berube tries to get up. The linesmen chooses to grab Berube and tries to drag him down but Berube stays up. Donnelly pulls the jersey off of Berube and then the other linesman gets there to help break it up. They move towards the bench boards and Donnelly throws sixteen lefts over the linesmen, landing six while Berube throws five lefts, landing one and then trying to grab Donnelly's helmet as the linesmen have too strong of a hold for Berube to reach Donnelly. Donnelly is restrained after that and the linesmen break them apart. Not a much of a fight due to the linesmen interfering the whole time. Unfortunately for Berube, almost all of their interference effected him far more than Donnelly who was mostly free to throw and landed a number of punches. Berube was never free at any point in the fight, first knocked to the ice by a linesman and immediately grabbed afterwards. The other linesman was pretty slow in getting there to grab Donnelly. An obviously unfair fight.

KN has this fight mixed up with the first. The 2nd bout: They both again at the faceoff, except this time the puck hasn't been dropped. They square off, but the linesman accidentally trips Berube, and Donnelly takes advantage landing some huge bombs. They both recieved Game Misconducts along With The Fight Majors, for fighting before the puck was dropped.

Rick missed a punch and landed a solid connect. Carkner landed an average right hand. Tocchet missed a couple of punches. Terry missed a few blows and landed a decent blow. The refs stopped the bout after close to thirty seconds of sustained action.

I rate this fight as a draw. It was pretty close in terms of punches landed and the impact of the blows. Both men landed a number of effective blows. This was quite an entertaining tilt.

Rick Tocchet and Terry Carkner line up beside each other at a faceoff and they drop the gloves when the puck drops. They latch on and Tocchet throws a flurry of five rights, landing two that jolt Carkner's head back. Carkner gets set and then opens up to trade toe-to-toe with Tocchet after a momentary pause. Tocchet throws eight rights and lands only two as he has trouble getting in range on the bigger Carkner who throws nine rights and lands five, none landing too well but he forces Tocchet to lower his head. Tocchet then switches hands while Carkner grabs for the helmet. Tocchet misses a left while opening back up and after Carkner misses a right, Tocchet lands a left. Carkner then misses a right and Tocchet throws five lefts and lands two afterwards, forcing Carkner to lower his head. Tocchet then switches hands again, missing two rights and losing his hold of Carkner. Carkner switches hands and opens up with a missing left but then switches hands as Tocchet latches back onto Carkner, this time in close. Carkner throws three rights and lands two but then switches hands again as they wrestle. They trade again but this time it's not toe-to-toe as Tocchet throws four lefts and lands two and Carkner throws six lefts and lands four, one jarring Tocchet who then lowers his head. Tocchet switches hands and lands a right before Carkner misses a left, then Carkner tries to pull Tocchet's head down while Tocchet misses a right. Carkner switches hands as Tocchet misses a right and after Carkner lands a right, Tocchet lands a right but lowers his head afterwards. Carkner misses a right as Tocchet misses a right and Tocchet's helmet falls off as Carkner misses a right. Carkner lands a right and Tocchet misses a right before moving back in close on Carkner who lands three rights afterwards. The linesmen then come in as they grapple and Tocchet misses two rights before they're restrained. A really good fight and a solid draw between two tough customers steadily whaling away with both hands.

Scott Mellanby win by KO Fun
10
Scott Mellanby and Jeff Jackson decided to have a go at center ice. The combatants had a good square off before Jackson managed to get a hold of Mellanby's jersey. The two men immediately started to trade wild haymakers. Mellanby missed with a right hand. He drilled Jackson with three consecutive hard right hands. Jackson was not rattled by the blows and returned three right hands of his own as Mellanby was pounding away. All of them were off target, likely because of the sheer force from Mellanby's blows. They each missed a right hook. Mellanby quickly switched to his left hand and came across with a real solid haymaker. Jackson managed to land a solid blow just before he recieved the blow. Jackson missed a punch and connected with his follow up blow. Mellanby missed with a left as Jackson fell short with a right. Jackson drilled Mellanby with two hard right hands to the jaw. Jackson grazed Mellanby with a right before he dodged an incoming blow. Jackson grazed Mellanby with a right as Mellanby connected with an absolute haymaker that crumpled Jackson down to the ice.

Jackson was out cold and lying on the ice. Mellanby grabbed the back of his jersey and wound up a left hand but realized his opponent was done. He let go of Jackson and began to skate away, turning around after a few moments to exchange words with someone, likely on the Quebec bench. One of the linesman had a real tight grip on Mellanby's arm. Mellanby wasn't in the mood and elbowed the official right in his nose. That seemed to get Mellanby's point across and he let go but skated right next to him. Peter Zezel had been talking to Mellanby as he skated around and eventually Craig Berube came over to say something. Mellanby appeared to be irate and worried at the same time. As he was circling around, Jackson was being attended to by the Quebec trainer. He was bleeding and quite woozy. It looked similar to the effects Jim Kyte suffered after recieving that well known knockout punch from Joey Kocur. This punch was on that level, if not more powerful than the one Kocur threw.

This was a devestating knockout win for Mellanby. He absolutely rocked Jackson with that right haymaker and Jeff was down on the ice within seconds. Both men threw and recieved some hard blows. Mellanby opened up with a flurry of punches that landed flush to the face of Jackson. Jackson stood in there though and after Mellanby switched hands, he managed to connect with a couple real solid blows of his own. Mellanby decided to switch back to the hand he had such a dominant start with and quickly sent Jackson down to the ice. This is an underrated fight in my opinion. Mellanby really rocked Jackson with that punch and he dropped to the ice like a ton of bricks. Jackson was immediately out of it and it took him a real long while to get up off the ice. This was very similar to what happened in the Kocur-Kyte battle. It was an incredible knockout victory for Mellanby and should be regarded as equal to the notorious Kocur knockout punch.

I judge this as a KO win for Mellanby. He absolutely demolished Jackson with a hard right hand that sent Jackson down to the ice. Jackson was real woozy and looked totally out of it. The fight was highly entertaining as there was great action with both men getting some real hard punches and Mellanby scored one of the greatest knockouts victories of all time.

Scott Mellanby win by KO Fun

Mellanby and Jackson had a thrilling slugfest where they traded power punches. Scott got off to a quick start. He landed a pretty good right and a good follow up right. Jeff missed a couple of shots. Mellanby landed a solid right and a solid left. His punches had more power and his blows were more accurate.

Jackson landed a solid right and missed with a couple of blows. Then, Jeff connected with a pretty good punch. He missed with a couple of attempts. Mellanby missed with a left. Jackson missed with a right hand and Scott landed a destructive right that left Jeff in a crumpled heap on the ice.

Jackson was hurt badly. He was lying on the ice face first for a spell. He sat up, but his balance was not there. Jeff stayed down for an extended period of time. Mellanby really stretched him out in this fight. This was one of the most destructive knockouts I've ever seen in a hockey fight. It was a chilling demolition.

Scott Mellanby win by KO Fun

Jackson and Mellanby have a great fight. Mellanby gets off to a good start landing a good right and another decent right. Jackson misses a few blows. Then Mellanby landed a a right that connected solid and a good left. Mellanby was landing with some power behind his punches.

Jackson lands a concrete right and misses a few right hand punches. Jackson then connects with a blow. Mellanby responds with missing a left and Jackson comes back missing a right and then Mellanby landed a beauty of a right that put Jackson flat on his back on the ice.

Jackson looked hurt and just there lying on the ice. He tried to get up, but couldn't. Then Mellanby after the fight made a sleeping motion with his hand and head to the Quebec bench and the ref was not very happy with him and grabed Mellanby. Mellanby didn't like that ref grabbed him and threw his elbow up to get the ref off him.

I rate this a KO win for Mellanby because he put Jackson down on the ice witha punch and then Jackson had trouble getting up. This was a great fight both fighters landing haymakers and landing solidly. This is my favorite fight out of Mellanby's long career as a power forward. Jackson though didn't have a long career.

Scott Mellanby win by KO Fun

Shortly after the Terry Carkner and Rick Tocchet fight, Jeff Jackson and Scott Mellanby meet up on a shift in the neutral zone and decide to go as well. The gloves drop and they square off. Jackson reaches in to grab on while Mellanby wades in and misses a right. Jackson then does grab on and misses a right as Mellanby lands a right to the face and grabs on too. Jackson misses another right while Mellanby lands another right to the face and Mellanby follows with one last connecting right to the face as Jackson missing a right while backpedaling. Mellanby then misses a right and Jackson counters with a landing right to the side of the head but Mellanby switches hands. Mellanby lands a left to the side of the head as Jackson misses a right but it's Mellanby who struggles to keep his footing as a result. Jackson misses a right and then after Mellanby misses a left, Mellanby misses a left while Jackson misses a right. Jackson then lands a right to the temple and connects with a right across the face afterwards. Mellanby turns his head while switching hands and then misses a right just after Jackson misses a follow up right. Jackson then misses a right as Mellanby lands a right to the nose that floors Jackson. Jackson lands on the ice face-first and grabs at his head as Mellanby lets go and skates off. The linesmen go right to Jackson, leaving Mellanby alone. A wild fight and an extremely entertaining slugest between these two tough guys. Mellanby got off to a good start, rocking Jackson with a few rights but Jackson stood right in there and tried to come back. Mellanby landed well with a left but Jackson then got a few rights in of his own before Mellanby came back with rights again. Mellanby flattened Jackson with one right and Jackson was down and out. He needed some medical assitance and help getting off the ice as he was clearly injured from that bomb by Mellanby.

Jackson comes out flying throwing about 5 to 7 rights. Most miss the mark. A couple land hard. Mellanby comes back and when Jackson swings wide Mellanby fire's back two fast rights, The first one glances Jackson, but the second one hits the mark and it's lights out.

Bombfest city. Mellanby fires a load of rights, two of which really blast Jackson. Jackson comes back with three monsters of his own, and leaves himself exposed for a big Mellanby blast that knocks him out. Exciting.

They drop the gloves near center ice and square off. Both lock each other out and start trading 3-4 rights landing most. Mellanby swithces to lefty and lands 1 of his 3 punches while Jackson continues to land some more rights. Mellanby then switches back to righty and lands a huge right hook that puts Jackson down facefirst on the ice.
Great bout with both landing early then Jackson started to get the edge but Mellanby came back with the huge KO.

Really great toe-to-toe action, both getting great right shots in. While Mellanby isn't really throwing anyting Jackson is punching away at him, Mellanby comes back, throws 2 punch's one of them knocking out Jackson. While the refs taking him away Mellanby is yapping at someone, Mellanby then elbows the ref to get off his arm.

Big right hand from Mellanby after a fairly decent showing from Jackson in which he landed some pretty effective rights of his own.

One of the single most damaging blows I've seen in a hockey fight. Jackson didn't tuck his chin and the point of his jaw was facing upwards most of the fight. This is really when a guy can't absorb a hard shot.Reply

Don Nachbaur win by TKO Fun
5
Don Nachbaur and Lane Lambert come together late in this feisty game and drop the gloves for the game's fifth altercation. Lambert loses his helmet while getting in tight on Nachbaur and they wrestle against the boards. Nachbaur's helmet comes loose just before he lands two rights. Lambert misses three rights while keeping his head down and pressed against Nachbaur's chest. They wrestle down the boards and Lambert tries to pull Nachbaur's head down but Nachbaur uses the opportunity to get some separation from Lambert. Nachbaur lands a right and then adjusts his grip to prevent Lambert from getting back in close before throwing six last rights and landing two with one of them catching Lambert cleanly and dropping him to his knees. Nachbaur keeps going as the linesmen rush in and stop the fight. Not a great fight at all. Lambert just tried to hold on and only attempted some punches early and they all clearly missed. Nachbaur struggled to get much going through most of the fight but got loose late and put Lambert down amidst a series of rights.

They fight along the boards as both are trading some short rights. Nachbaur scores a quick right uppercut then gets some punching space and just tees off on Lambert scoring about a half dozen unanswered rights until the linesmen jump in saving the bent over and covering up Lambert from further punishment.
Easy win for Nachbaur.

Nachbaur and Lambert traded punches at close quarters. Don missed a punch and connected with a decent right. Lane missed a punch and landed a decent right. Nachbaur landed a decent punch and missed a shot.

Don turned the next punch into an uppercut. it landed with good force and dropped Lambert to the ice. Don landed a pretty good follow up punch and Lane was holding his face in pain.

I rate this as a TKO win for Nachbaur. He dropped Lambert with a good punch and Lane was done after that. Nachbaur was too much for the game, but overmatched Lambert to handle.

Both fights engage along the boards as Lambert tries to get in close to Nachbaur. Once Nachbaur gets his right loose, its over for Lambert as he tries to hang on while Don is throwing good rights. Looks like Nachbaur gets a good solid shot to the side of Lambert's head and that almost seems to buckle Lambert.

Win Nachbaur
