I luved Mondou as a pure hockey player even though he probably never had a fight in his life. Carelessness by Sammuelsson ended the career of a gifted hockey player ... so sad.Reply

Pierre Mondou cruises by Hartford defenseman Ulf Samuelsson with the puck. Ulf was like a pylon that Mondou dashed around. Mondou shoots the puck as Ulf vainly tries to stop the Montreal player. Samuelsson tries to stop Mondou by swinging his stick at his head from behind, trying to hook the stick near his face.

All Ulf accomplishes is jabbing the point of his stick in Mondou's eye. Mondou's shot goes by the Hartford goalie, but Pierre is in trouble. He falls to the ice in pain and soon heads to the bench for medical attention.

Mondou's eye injury ended his career. This was the first notable cheap shot delivered by Ulf Samuelsson in his NHL career. This was definitely a sign of things to come.

Chris Nilan narrow win Fun
3
There's a long but pretty uneventful scrum going on with Torrie Robertson in the middle of it but Chris Nilan staying out. However after Robertson gets into it with Ryan Walter, Nilan comes wading into the fray and goes right after Robertson. Nilan gets the jump, dropping the gloves and grabbing Robertson while he's looking away. Nilan throws two rights and lands one as Robertson ducks his head, drops the gloves, and gets in close. Robertson drops to a knee but is fast back to his feet while Nilan misses two lefts. Once Robertson's up, Nilan lands a left that knocks the helmet off and they wrestle. Robertson just clings on and waits while Nilan throws two rights and lands one before they wrestle up against the boards. There Nilan misses a right and a left, and then another right before Robertson misses a left. Nilan tries to get Robertson in a headlock but fails to do so and the linesmen are then in to break them apart. Boring fight between these two enforcers. Robertson was just clutching onto Nilan and wrestling the whole time. Nilan tried throwing some punches and got a few in, though he was wrestling plenty too. Edge Nilan.

Chris Nilan narrow win Fun

There was a big scrum in the middle of the ice, but it looked uneventful. Nilan came up on Robertson and the fight got going. Chris landed an average punch and a partial connect. He missed a few shots. He landed a partial connect. Torrie was mostly wrestling throughout the contest. Robertson landed a partial connect. Nilan landed a light punch and missed two shots. He landed a partial connect and the refs stopped the fight.

I rate this as a narrow win for Nilan. He landed some moderately effective blows, but nothing with powerful impact.

Draw Fun
1
Joel Quenneville is backing up with the puck and tries to shoot it past Mario Tremblay. Tremblay blocks the attempted clear but then goes right into Quenneville and both have no hesitation in dropping the gloves. However Quenneville just wrestles Tremblay straight to the ice, getting him on his back. Quenneville misses one left while on top of Tremblay before the linesmen get in and separate the two. Awful fight and a draw since Quenneville wrestled Tremblay down right away.
