Marois and Gainey went at it after Bob checked him along the boards. Bob threw a couple of punches on the inside, but it was hard to tell if they landed because of the camera angle. Marois landed some left hooks, especially to the body. However, the camera focused more on the bout between Chris Nilan and Brent Ashton. I will not do an official review because the clip did not show the second half of the bout.Reply

Chris Nilan narrow win Fun
3
Nilan was a smart tactician and a good infighter. He liked to wrestle initially on the inside in his bouts. He liked to minimize the incoming fire and sought to get an effective grip established at the onset of a bout.

Ashton could not get his right arm free in the early part of the contest. Chris connected with a decent uppercut. Brent landed a decent right hand. Nilan landed a partial connect and got Ashton in a headlock.

Chris was able to neutralize the offensive attack of his opponent. He got Ashton in a headlock. He landed an average left hand. He hauled Brent to the ice. He landed a couple of decent right hands. Brent got up, but the men were wrestling when the officials stopped the contest.

I rate this as a narrow win for Nilan. He landed a handful of moderately effective punches. Ashton only had one connect and Chris did a nice job of neutralizing his offensive attack. It wasn't a crowd pleasing performance, but it was good enough to earn the win.

Chris Nilan narrow win Fun

Paul Gillis pokes his stick at Bob Gainey as he and Mario Marois are engaged in a fight. Chris Nilan come in from behind and floors Gillis with a crosscheck to the back so Brent Ashton steps in to stand up for his teammate. Nilan accpets Ashton's challenge and they square off. Nilan ducks his head and moves in on Ashton as they grab on. They get in close and a linesman comes by but refrains from breaking up the fight. Nilan lifts his head as they're wrestling and then throws two rights, landing one. Ashton lands two rights, one to the body but stays in close on Nilan who then connects on a right. They wrestle into the boards with Nilan trying to get Ashton's helmet off before switching hands and landing a left. Ashton then grabs Nilan's leg and goes down, dragging down Nilan too. Nilan misses a left, switches hands, and then misses a right while on top of Ashton on the ice. Ashton ducks his head while Nilan gets to his knees and then switches hands, landing a left before switching hands again and connecting on a right. Ashton gets up then but he's in a headlock from Nilan who tries to wrestle Ashton down afterwards. They go back into the boards and Nilan wrestles Ashton down, finishing the fight. Bad tilt. Win to Nilan for landing more punches and having better control of the fight.

Not much of a tussle, Nilan and Ashton squared off after Gainey-Marois.
Ashton threw a couple, maybe landed one slightly. Nilan came back and got in some short blows to the side of Ashton's head. They went down but got up and continued briefly with no linesmen in sight. Nilan then slams Ashton to the ice.

Ashton lands one but then njilan lands a bomb > a tko punch but then they both get up from the ice which now nullifies the tko-status of that punch. Nilan then headlocks ashton ... thats when nilan deliberately sends himself & ashton down to the ice by jerking-downwards to the ice while nilan keeps him in a headlock.

Randy Moller decisive win Fun
4
Behind the play Mark Hunter and Randy Moller get into it and drop the gloves along the boards. They both grab on and Hunter gets against the boards, landing a left after Moller misses a right. Moller gets in tight while pressing Hunter to the boards and then Hunter misses a left before getting off the boards. They wrestle around a little bit and then Moller lands a right before Hunter misses a left. Hunter tries to press Moller against the boards but Moller stays off them and then throws a series of ten straight rights, landing six as Hunter just puts his head down. Moller stops throwing to hold Hunter's head down as the linesmen wade in on the fight and then put a stop to it. Hunter misses a left over the linesmen but is then pulled apart from Moller. Not a great scrap but there were some punches thrown. Definite win for Moller as he controlled the fight and really took over at the end.

Chris Nilan misplays the puck beside Steve Penney so Penney dives on top of it to cover up for a whistle with more players crowding the crease. Nilan takes a couple gloved punches from Peter Stastny who's wrestled down from behind by Chris Chelios while Dale Hunter barges into the fray and pairs off with Nilan. The gloves come off and Hunter immediately ducks his head while wrapping his arms around Nilan. Hunter loses his footing though and goes to the ice beneath Nilan. Nilan recovers quick and manages to work a few punches off, connecting with one before the linesmen get between them to break it up. Hunter is taken to the box first and as Nilan goes off, he mocks Hunter for covering up in the fight, getting some response from the home crowd in doing so. Awful fight with Hunter hitting the deck before any punches were thrown.

Mario Tremblay steps up to play a loose puck, shooting it down the ice as Dale Hunter comes in after the puck too. Losing the race to the puck, Hunter decides to play the man and runs right into Tremblay. Hunter's shoulder hits Tremblay in the chest but there's also some contact made with the knee which sends Tremblay sprawling to the ice. A linesman gets between the two to keep them apart as play goes on. Fun

Play is soon called down after Dale Hunter's hit on Mario Tremblay and that's when Mike McPhee goes after Hunter. McPhee comes up high with a shove on Hunter and a crowd gathers around them. Hunter wants no part of McPhee who drops the gloves but has the linesmen get in between him and Hunter. Michel Goulet drops the gloves, trying to get in to help out Hunter but Goulet is pulled back by Ryan Walter. Hunter covers up as McPhee so relents and allows the linesmen to break them apart. Not much here, McPhee wanted a piece of Hunter but Hunter really didn't want to engage McPhee at all. Fun
