Behn Wilson clear win Fun
5
Behn got off to a good start against Nilan. He landed a solid right hand that knocked Chris off balance and to the ice. The punch was not devastating, but it connected with enough force to get Nilan off his skates.

Nilan got up and was unable to score with any blows right away. Wilson landed a partial connect with an uppercut and missed a punch. Chris landed a partial connect with an overhand right. Wilson connected with a pretty good right hook and followed up with a couple of decent blows.

Chris missed with a left hand and tried to wrap up Behn's right arm under his own armpit. The move was ineffective. Behn landed a body punch and a decent right. He missed with a follow up punch. Nilan missed with a left and a right.

I rate this as a clear win for Wilson. He scored a knockdown early in the fight, but it was aided by a loss of balance. Behn landed a few effective punches in the bout. Nilan ducked away and rolled with some of the blows. He just missed with a few punches. He was competitive in the bout, but Behn landed several more blows and earned the victory.

Wilson starts the fight by throwing a short right to the side of Nilan who goes down on his knees [losing his balance] but quickly jumps up again. Wilson throws a couple of more short rights at Nilan who tries a powerless left to Wilson's head. Nilan then tries a right while Wilson is still trying to score with his short right punches to the body and head. Nilan throws a left but only punches sporadically throughout the fight. He's having obvious trouble with Wilson's strength which neutralizes Nilan's attempts. Wilson shows good balance in this fight as he seems to be steady as a rock. Neither fighter manages to throw any big or clean punches as they are mostly tied up. The linesmen eventually come in and break up the fighters, although it takes them awhile to do it. No damage done in this fight although Wilson seemed pretty much in control of things. Somewhere between a narrow and clear win for Wilson.

Wilson takes it to Nilan in this one. These two lock up and it's basically all Wilson. He fires off a number of uppercuts that sting up Nilan. Nilan, at first, just holds on and tries to contain Wilson. Wilson just keeps going forcing Nilan to respond.

Wilson is firing rapid rights and mixing in uppercuts, while Nilan throws one punch at a time. So Wilson would rip off a few shots and Nilan would respond with one before repeating the process. Wilson taps out a drumbeat on Nilan's jaw with a number of shots in this fight. A few of Wilson's uppercuts snap Nilan's head back.

Nilan hung in there, but this fight was close to getting ugly. Clear win for Wilson against a solid Chris Nilan who rarely lost a fight like this.

Leading up to the Canadiens-Hawks game, a slew of Montreal players had been quoted in an article which discussed the "dirty players" in the NHL. Several Canadiens cited Behn Wilson for using his stck. Apparently, Wilson didn't appreciate the article because he was a one-man wrecking crew in this game - and he did it without his stick.

The Hawk defenceman set the tone by taking on Chris Nilan in round four of their rivalry. Once again, this was an excellent showing by Big Behn, as he not only outpunched Nilan by a wide margin, but tossed him around with authority. Before Wilson's night was done, he had either roughed up or gotten into hassles with a host of Habs: Pierre Mondou, Larry Robinson, Ryan Walter, Mats Naslund, and Mario Tremblay. After Wilson had roughed up Walter, Nilan apparently wanted to get round five going. The linesmen separated the two players, who were assessed coincidental minors. Immediately upon leaving the penalty box, Wilson skated over to Nilan and challenged him. The Habs' winger didn't have the answer, and neither did any of his teammates on this night.

When providing his game recap, Montreal announcer Dick Irvin - never known for extending credit to "opposing" players - stated that Wilson's rugged play had been one of the keys to Chicago's victory.

Wilson & Mark Hunter are seen verbally squabbling about something. The next thing we see is a fight in progress bewteen Wilson & Nilan. I counted 8 facial-punches (virtually all uppercuts) while Nilan tried sticking his head in the ground like an ostrich. However, Nilan did come up for air once in a while because he did land 2 or 3 facial-punches. Clear win for Wilson.

Only the very top fighters of this era could handle Nilan as easily as Wilson seemed to be doing here. Nilan simply looks overmatched in the clip I saw of this fight, and that didn´t happen very often. He usually held his own with anybody, in his own boring style. I won´t review this fight since I haven´t seen the whole fight, only a short clip of it.Reply

Legend has it, BEHN WILSON, beat NILAN up, 3 times in preseason games, when WILSON, was w/ the PHILA. Judging by this fight, and how NILAN,couldn't do his usual, grab the jersey, and put the fans to sleep technique. am pretty sure WILSON handled NIlan in the 3 preseason fights.Reply

WIlson is the G.O.A.T. in my book as far as fighting in hockey goes. You make a great point about how easily he smashes Nilan here. I didn't like Nilan but he was good because he had a technique that helped level the playing field against the many bigger guys he tangled with. There were definitely guys who beat him, but none of them did it the way Wilson did. He made it look like he was fighting Brent Hughes, a nothing fight for him. That is extremely impressive. Whenever I see a Wilson fight, I always want to jump back in time to yell to the other guy "don't do it! it's not worth it, it is going to end badly for you"

Wilson was a terrible enforcer because he was generally only interested in enforcing in his own defense, but for fighting itself, I have never seen a more consistent guy. It was a real short line at his cash register. Most guys stayed far away.

Al Secord is chasing after Chris Chelios as he moves up ice with the puck. Secord raises his stick and takes a swing at Chelios, catching him in the side of the head with the stick blade. Chelios immediately goes down to the ice grabbing at his face and a penalty is called on Secord. Secord gestures to the referee but is then charged by Mark Hunter and they fight. A pretty dirty slash by Secord here. Emotion
