kmyeakel 167 fight reviews Dec 30, 2011 20:05 ET | As the game was almost over, Pokepecy suckered punch Del Zotto in front of Lundquist. All of the Rangers respond and go right after and so does some panthers. Alot of stuff was going on the ice and Rupp went after Poksepcy and decided to duke it out. After that was over, players still wanted to go after each other. After the skirmishes on the ice, couple of the players talked about going when the game was over, but decided not to go when time expired. Rangers win 4-1. | Fun 5 |

ExclamationPoint Dec 30, 2011 20:52 ET | The biggest joke is Kopecky. A total suckerpunch from a total bitch. Of course he is another pussy product out of Detroit so he has to cheapshot people. Too bad Rupp didn't do some damage but he didn't get much of a chance since Kopecky turtled worse than Claude Lemieux. I wonder if ex-Redwing Shanahan will think those chickenshit tactics warrant a suspension? | Reply |
GMRWings1983 Dec 30, 2011 22:36 ET | He is a pussy who once played for Detroit, but Wings players don't typically suckerpunch people like that. Sometimes, I wish they did.
I don't know what Detroit has anything to do with this. He's also an ex-Blackhawk, and Shanny is an ex-Blue. | Reply |

Kops sucker punch was an attempt to injure you cant deny that, especially with how he eyed down Del Zotto after it. | Reply |

SamuraiLincoln Dec 31, 2011 14:00 ET | The precedent has been set...NHL fines Del Zotto and Kopecky $2500 each, nothing for Rupp. Talk about sweeping everything under the rug. The most blatant instigation of a fight in recent history and the NHL just ignores it so they can have a controversy free Winter Classic.
Rupp literally pulled Kopecky away from a ref and starting uploading on him after everyone was being separated. Crystal clear instigation of a fight. | Reply |

Everyone knows the Wings are soft, just like we all know Tampa and Montreal are. Kopecky is a little girl and he proved it with both the suckerpunch and subsequent turtling during the asskicking he took. The fact is, the Redwings are a great team but when it comes to toughness and fighting(which like it or not are huge parts of the game) they have become eunichs. As for being bitter, I hardly think so. In the last 2 playoff years, my team has eliminated the Redwings(isn't it ironic that redwings is a term associated with a bleeding pussy? hmmm!) so you'll have to try harder next time, sunshine! | Reply |

  JetsFan01 388 fight reviews Oct 6, 2012 16:01 ET | Mike Rupp decisive win | Fun 4 |
Michael Del Zotto and Tomas Kopecky are battling in front of the net. Del Zotto gives Kopecky a cross check which knocks his helmet off. Kopecky is not happy and once play is stopped, Kopecky nails Del Zotto with a gloved sucker punch. Del Zotto drops to the ice and Brandon Prust jumps onto Kopecky's back. This starts a scrum and everybody grabs a man. The linesmen separate Prust and Kopecky while Derek Stepan and Kris Versteeg wrestle. The linesmen begin to escort Kopecky off the ice but Mike Rupp wants a piece of Kopecky. He pulls Kopecky away from the linesmen and they grab onto each other. Kopecky falls to one knee and Rupp unloads on him, throwing five right hands, connecting on three. The Panthers quickly skate over and circle around Rupp. Rupp looks like he wants to the fight them but the linesmen won't let it happen and escort him off the ice.
Decent fight. Del Zotto and Kopecky were battling in front of the net but they each got a little carried away. Del Zotto went with a high cross check which enraged Kopecky. However, Kopecky's sucker punch was just as bad, if not worse then Del Zotto's crosscheck. Brandon Prust quickly jumped Kopecky and that started a scrum. Nothing major was happening other then Stepan and Versteeg wrestling but it didn't look like the gloves would come off. However, once Kopecky was going off the ice, Rupp grabbed him and began to unload. The linesmen and Panthers had to jump in to Kopecky from any further harm.
Good job by Rupp to stand up for his teammate Del Zotto. Del Zotto did deliver a cheap cross check but Kopecky didn't need to sucker him. Rupp is a very tough that has fought and beat many heavyweights. Rupp's career started great for him, as he scored the Stanley Cup winning goal for the Devils in the 02-03 season. Rupp was traded to the Coyotes and played one season there before the 04-05 lockout.
Rupp played the next season with Columbus before playing with the Devils again. Rupp played with the Devils for three seasons and then jumped to Pittsburgh. In those three seasons with the Devils, Rupp defeated heavyweights Andre Roy, Riley Cote, Colton Orr, Eric Boulton and Shawn Thornton. Rupp played two seasons with Pittsburgh before moving onto New York. Rupp plays a nice physcial style and can also fight very well. It's always nice to have a heavyweight enforcer on your team that can turn the tides with a scrap.
Decisive win to Rupp. He pounded away on Kopecky who needed to be saved by the linesmen and the Panthers. The fight was somewhat entertaining as Rupp was really throwing right hands and decisive wins are always entertaining. |

| Kopecky was jousting with Del Zotto in front of the net and landed a gloved shot that put him down. The Rangers on the ice took exception and swarmed him. As the refs pulled Kopecky out of the pigpile Rupp got a hold of him and started to blast him with four or five right hands. Kopecky immediately went to a knee and crawled into the fetal position as a way of turtling and softening the impact of the blows. I rate it a decisive win because Kopecky went down by choice rather than by the impact of the blows. |

| Mike Rupp sees teammate, Michael Del Zotto get floored with a gloved suckerpunch from Tomas Kopecky and wants a piece of Kopecky. He's at the bottom of a pile though so Rupp waits until a linesman finally pulls Kopecky out. Rupp then heads right over and drops his gloves before grabbing Kopecky. Kopecky keeps his gloves on and for a couple moments, grapples with Rupp. However Kopecky drops to a knee and covers his hands with his face while Rupp unloads five right hands, landing three which knock Kopecky right to the ice. A couple of Kopecky's teammates come in to help him out while a linesman grabs Rupp. Rupp is kept away from the other players while Kopecky gets up and stays in the scrum. Very short fight and a decisive win for Rupp. |

| Kopecky decks Del Zotto with a suckerpunch. Players pile in, Rupp waits until Kopecky gets out of the pile, grabs him and gives him a nice beating. Great enforcing by Rupp. |

| This is unfair because Kopecky wasn't unable to fight back. Rupp went after him because Kopecky suckerpunched Del Zotto and he gave him the business with 5 punches. |

| Del Zotto cross checks Kopecky in the head, knocking off his helmet, and Kopecky turns around and blasts Del Zotto dropping him. Prust jumps on Kopecky's back and a pigpile ensues. When Kopecky starts to emerge, Rupp pulls him from the pile and just starts teeing off. Kopecky turtles immediately, dropping to one knee and just covering up with his gloves still on! He never intended on throwing a punch back. This is clearly an unfair fight and I won't be calling it anything else. |

SarcasticPillow Dec 31, 2011 08:31 ET | Maybe it is unfair but whoever makes that call has to be perfectly certain. The only useable option would be that Tomas Kopecky never intended to fight back and I'm not certain that happened. Kopecky does grapple with Mike Rupp, if only for a couple moments, before dropping to a knee and covering up. Kopecky didn't drop the gloves so it's arguable but I'm not sure that there was no intent to fight back so I can't call it. | Reply |
StormShadow Dec 31, 2011 08:33 ET | I don't believe there was any intent to fight Rupp on Kopecky's part whatsoever. He didn't drop his gloves, and at first tried to go into hug-mode against Rupp, realizing that wasn't going to work, went to the ice as fast as possible covering up. This is very unfair. | Reply |
