NESHLFan 221 fight reviews Dec 6 18:58 ET | This game was advertised all over the place as a ''Must See'', James Scott announced via his personal Facebook that it was going to be his big return to senior hockey and invited everyone to attend. Many speculate that the Phantoms purposely moved the game to the much bigger facility ''The Civic Center'' rather than the regular LBA arena, to bring in more people for Scott's show. I got to the game with the warmup just getting under way and the place was packed, a few of the Phantom players were stretching on the red-line starring down Tracadie players; a few of the players included Dwight Wolfe, David Mitchell, Matt Shannon and of course James Scott, all tough guys. The Tracadie team for their part had no known fighters in the lineup as Cory Smearer had not yet gotten his release from the Memramcook Acadiens.
The game started off as a ordinary game, Tracadie had two goals on the board after the first and in terms of rough stuff it was sort of quiet. Just a few 'dirty' plays, like Matt Shannon snow-plowing the Tracadie goalie, a Dwight Wolfe borderline slash and a David Mitchell 10-min misconduct, typical Miramichi hockey. Between periods, one of the security guys told me to stick around because it was 'TIME' for the real show.
Before the puck even dropped in the second, Matt Shannon was slashing and shaking his gloves at Tracadie's big foward Frederic Doucet who clearly wanted no part in fighting with the tough Matt Shannon. With the score now 2-1 Alpines, Miramichi sent out a line of 'goons'; David Mitchell, Chris McNeil & the man himself James Scott...
As Dwight Wolfe dumps the puck into the Tracadie zone, goaltender Charles Austin goes out behind the net to play it, as soon as he gets rid of it, James Scott is on a bee-line and steamrolls the defenseless goaltender. All of the Phantoms players on the ice immediately drop the gloves, you had James Scott in one corner tied up with Remi Doucet and in the other corner, Chris McNeil swinging away at Mathieu Lebouthillier. With all the action in both corners, big David Mitchell took advantage of the already roughed up Charles Austin and clobbered him with solid rights to the face, after about 5-8 bombs landed the Tracadie player falls to the ice and Mitchell flees the scene. The action then moves to the benches area (where at the Civic Center, the benches are side by side and share the same hallway), James Scott is now trying to take on just about anybody waving hand gestures to the players, while the coaches start swinging blows at eachother over the glass that separates both benches. In the mean time, Kris Keating of Miramichi and Mathieu Lebouthillier of Tracadie square off in the middle of the ice; Keating lands some heavy punches and TKOs Lebouthillier who appears to be a bit shaky getting up. James Scott, then makes his way towards the Tracadie goalie, who is by this time really banged-up and not willing to fight whatsoever. Scott grabs a hold of Austin and without throwing any punches picks him up and wrestles him back to the ice before a linesmen comes in to stop him. While it seems like its all coming to an end, Kyle Rose, who came off the bench with no helmet on, for Miramichi challenges Joel Lebouthillier to a fight which goes all the way to the other side of the ice and the refs decide to let them go. Rose signals at Lebouthillier to take off his helmet but he turns it down, but they go anyway; Kyle Rose even with the disadvantage of not having his helmet lays a solid right and drops the Tracadie player without much of a problem. The game was called off after this event, with Tracadie receiving the win.
Pretty intense brawl the best I've seen locally in a very long time the most exciting event in the league all-year... Solid 9. | Fun 9 |

Ovechkin962 Dec 5, 2011 16:12 ET | No, it's easy to find video for the NESHL or the old LHSCN for me, because that's a league from where I live... Tracadie-Sheila is 30 minutes from where I live and Miramichi 45 minutes... I was suppose to go see this game between this two teams, but sadly I was busy. | Reply |
7971 Dec 7, 2011 15:15 ET | 1. Because of what has before, when an english speaking town, plays a french speaking town, and theres an 'incident'.Usually, the "authorites", get involved>since i did see the video, before it was pulled. You had two non-player people(the coaches) fighting each other, over the glass, on the non-playing surface. So, somebody, PROPABLY filed a motion, and the video is now being 'reviewed". 2. If you think am making a joke, am not. In a old SENIOR AA LEAGUE,When there was a conrwall comets team(english speaking town), played a french speaking town team.A coach suckered from the bench, a player on the ice.And the 'authorities", ask for all video evidence. 3. no, i don't have any idea, who was the home team/away team, was. 4. final point, didn't the 'authorities", question CHARA(fr. english speaking BOSTON) when he hurt pacioetty(sorry, who cares how to spell his name), fr. french speaking montreal. Different day, same thing. 5. hopefully, someone got the footage, b4 it was taken off, for a coach vs coach fight,it was good. tx | Reply |
Ovechkin962 Dec 7, 2011 16:16 ET | The video is still on YouTube. They showed the fight all over the news on SRC (CBC's french channel). They talk about that basically every day in the newspaper.
It always been like that between these two cities. There was a old senior hockey league back in the early 90's (1993 or so), the Miramichi Maple Leafs was a very tough team (they brought Link Gaetz to play with them a few games). They had guys like Wade Jardine and Eric Plourde (both were considered as top enforcers).
Tracadie-Sheila Alpines also had a bunch of guys to drop the gloves like the McGrath brothers (Doug played couple games in the AHL while Don played several years in USA), Bernard Chiasson (who played and fought Mario Roberge in the old Republican league) and some other players like Serge Theriault, Donald Theriault, Pierre Lebreton, Marco Saulnier (The coach who fought in this brawl with the hat) and I forgot some.
There was a lot of fights and bench-clearing brawl back then. The games were also on TV ! I know someone who have tapes, I will check with him ! | Reply |
