The rematch between two Irish warriors. Both proud and with a never-say-die attitude that every team today would kill for. Great teammates who always gave 110%. In this fight they both exchange punches with each other rather evenly. Of course Taz throws the lefts and Maloney the rights. Maloney lands the best punch of the fight, but O'Reilly shrugs it off like nothing. After their exchange of blows they wrestle a bit. O'Reilly punches Maloney on the top of the head and grabs his hair.
Mike Milbury on O'Reilly: "Terry was my roommate on the road and his idea of post-game fun was to head back to the room to do sit-ups and push-ups. Seriously!! He once turned the All-Star game into a near brawl by breaking the unwritten rule that there was to be no hitting in the game. A game with no hitting did not exist with O'Reilly in it. And I think Terry had as many brawls driving to the rink as he did on the ice. Proud and defiant, the man had no fear."
Dave Hutchison on Maloney: "He was as good a fighter as anyone. No question about it. Maloney had all the tools - A wickedly hard right hand, tremendous boxing skills, a mean disposition and one of the best Irish chins. Maloney wasn't a typical brawler. He was a guy who studied boxing and fighting from a very early age. He came from a big family of Irish boys who could all use their dukes very well. Maloney had big hands and knew how to use them. He loved to bury his chin into his left shoulder and deliver hard, punishing right hands. If he had a weakness, it was his nose - He was a bleeder by nature. But as far as skill is concerned, he was as good a fighter as anyone, up there with John Ferguson and Clark Gillies." |

Dan Maloney and Terry O'Reilly were familiar foes who had several action bouts. Each was one of the better fighters of the 1970's. The two decided to slug it out after a stoppage of play in the Toronto zone. Terry immediately started to fire away with left hands. Maloney matched him punch for punch with right hands.
O'Reilly missed with his first left hand. He followed up by landing a decent shot. He missed again with his next punch. Maloney landed a solid right with his first attempt. Then, he missed a punch. He followed up with another decent shot. Dan missed with an uppercut. He followed up with a solid right hand.
Terry missed with a left hand. Then, he connected with a good one. Dan landed a decent right. He followed up by landing a good shot. Maloney missed with a couple additional attempts. O'Reilly landed a couple of decent left hands. The two men began to wrestle. Terry landed one more partial connect with a right hand.
This was a very close fight. Dan appeared to land with slightly more pop. It looked like Terry landed one or two more blows. The fight looked to be about even to me and I think that a draw is a fair call. This was a good action bout between two of the most exciting fighters of the era. |

| Brad Park pokes the puck off Dan Maloney's stick, keeping it in the Toronto Maple Leafs' zone. Terry O'Reilly gets the puck and goes up the boards with it before backhanding a pass to middle. Maloney comes back down and finishes a good hit on O'Reilly. O'Reilly takes exception and drops the gloves with Maloney as Mike Palmateer covers up the puck. O'Reilly and Maloney grab hold of each other's jerseys and O'Reilly throws five lefts, landing two as Maloney throws three rights, also landing two. O'Reilly gets in tight and Maloney misses a right before landing a right while O'Reilly misses a left. Then they get separation and Maloney throws six rights, landing three as O'Reilly throws five lefts, landing two but knocking Maloney's helmet off too. They get back in tight and wrestle around. O'Reilly grabs Maloney's hair and lands five rights before landing two lefts. The linesmen then come in and O'Reilly misses three rights before he and Maloney are sent off. A rematch between these two tough guys as they fought earlier in the month when Maloney was on the Detroit Red Wings. Good scrap between the two and an edge to Maloney in my book. He landed better punches than O'Reilly. |

| not a bad scrap, both guys land some good shots, O'reilly with lefts, Maloney with rights. O'reilly with a hairpull at the end. Both seem to show a pretty decent chin here. |

BattleshipRules 2422 fight reviews May 14 19:29 ET | Outcome: N/A Fight called Unfair by BattleshipRules on May 14, 2013 Reason: Too much interference by other players | Fun 3 |
It looked like Sittler started the trouble here. He hit Dennis O'Brien up high after Dennis got rid of the puck. Darryl's own momentum from the hit set him sprawling to the ice. Jonathan pounced on Sittler. Stan was tied up by a couple of players. Darryl threw a right hand under the pile. He moved over to the side and threw another punch under the pile.
Jonathan got up and was bleeding. There is no visual evidence that the punches hit Stan. There is a chance that one of these two punches landed or both. Something opened up a cut on Stan in this instance. I will not declare a winner because this is speculation on my part. At any rate, the fight should be regarded as being an unfair contest because of player interference. |

  BattleshipRules 2422 fight reviews Oct 30, 2012 17:57 ET | Kurt Walker narrow win | Fun 6 |
Kurt Walker was a guy who had good fighting ability and added some muscle to the Toronto squads of the 1970's. He went with Jonathan likely because Stan went after Darryl Sittler earlier in the game to pay him back for his hit up high on Dennis O'Brien.
Walker leaned heavily on Stan's shoulders during the early part of the bout. This was a interesting tactic. Many tall guys struggled against Stan, but it was usually because they tried to fight Stan from a distance. Jonathan could usually work his way inside just enough to land some power punches. Walker decided to smother Jonathan during the infighting.
Walker also picked a hand to neutralize in the fight. He got a firm grip on the jersey right between the left shoulder and neck of Jonathan. Usually it was a case of pick your poison when trying to tie up one of Stan's arms. Walker was gambling that he could mitigate the power of Stan's left hand enough to keep Stan from fully extending his arm and landing with maximum punching power.
Kurt held on firmly with the grip throughout the fight. He decided to throw a series of lefts of his own. Stan was at the disadvantage because his right hands were coming in under Walker's armpit. Kurt was able to throw his lefts just over Stan's right arm because of his height advantage. Kurt tugged down on Stan's jersey between the neck and left shoulder throughout the fight. He was gambling that the grip would bother Stan just enough to slow his punch output and take a bit of power off his punches. Walker came up with a game plan for this fight and he was determined to stick with it.
Walker landed a solid left hook to start the scoring. Jonathan threw a couple of ineffective right hands. Kurt missed with a left hook and landed a partial connect. Jonathan landed a decent left hook. Walker started to let some lefts fly. Kurt landed two solid left hooks. He just missed with two blows. He landed two decent shots.
Jonathan tried to match Kurt punch for punch. He landed a solid left hook. He missed a punch. He landed another solid left hook. Stan landed a decent punch and a partial connect. Stan stopped punching for a time and Walker continued to throw lefts. Kurt landed two solid left hooks. He missed a punch. He landed a decent blow. He missed with a shot. Kurt leaned down on Stan's neck. Stan went for the takedown. The refs stopped the bout before Kurt hit the hit.
Walker's plan paid off. He landed a few more blows in the bout. Stan did land a couple of solid punches. However, he was not in his comfort zone. When Kurt pulled down on the jersey, his right shoulder jutted out a bit and made it more difficult for Stan to land any huge punches. Stan did not keep up with Walker's punch output. Kurt landed more blows and earned the narrow win by sticking to his game plan.
Walker was a good veteran fighter. His subtle moves made the bout easier. He used his weight and leverage to keep Stan from fully extending his arms too often. He completely took away Jonathan's right hand and he mitigated the effects of the incoming lefts. There is not much footage of Walker available. He came up just short in a fight with Dave Schultz in the 1976 playoffs. He employed a masterful fight plan against Jonathan. The video evidence proves that Kurt was a formidable guy with his fists and a good strategist. |

| Both hold on to the jerseys, trying to get free. Walker throws a couple of lefts, Jonathan a right and shortly thereafter a left. After that they go T2T for a very short while, both trading evenly with a slight edge to Jonathan. Walker continues throwing a few more lefts after Jonathan had stopped. Jonathan then smartly lifts Walker's left leg and throws him to the ice. Very even fight. Once again Jonathan showed his versatility as many times before. Very good switchfighter who could read the situations very well. Cred to Walker for putting up a good fight. |
Oneill.the.Giant 2891 fight reviews Jul 8, 2009 06:17 ET | Kurt Walker narrow win | Fun 6 |
When the camera gets to this fight it shows the two of these guys falling to the ice as they tied up. Walker then threw a short left hand at Jonathan and both get back up to their skates again. Jonathan then throws a few lefts at Walker before they grapple with each other for a second or two. Both then free up their left hands and have a short toe to toe exchange which Walker gets the better of as he throws and lands more punches on the Boston tough guy. Jonathan then goes for his usual take down routine at the end and the lino's come in to end the fight.
Walker out landed Jonathan in this fight and looked to be in control when Jonathan went for his take down, so I'm giving Walker the win for landing more punches in this fight.
Narrow win Walker. |

| Great action here between "David & Goliath". Both guys literally lock horns here and pummel away at each other while locked in this position. This toe-to-toe action is an even trade off of punches up until the last few seconds of the fight. That's when Walker fires off 3 fast, unanswered, facial-punches towards the end of the fight. But then Jonathan tried tackling the legs of Walker in order to end the fight because he was in a bent-over position. Narrow to clear win for Walker. |

Cashman puts a shot on goal and meets up with Boutette in the corner. Boutette gives him a poke with his glove on and they get into a semi-stick swinging affair. A pile of players come in and Cashman forces his way through the crowd and comes to grips with Boutette.
This was just a love-in as they grappled in close. No real punches thrown and the linesmen get in. Draw. |
