If anybody deserves a 10 fun rating for their 1000th game ceremony on this site, it's far and away this man right here. Chris Neil is a legend, a rare breed of hockey player that is all but extinct. He is the true embodiment of the hockey warrior, a man going in to battle for his team every night. I have loved Chris Neil ever since I was old enough to follow the NHL, and it makes me happy to see him still battling today. Congrats Chris. You earned it. Fun

Chris Neil fought anyone and everyone and today continues to watch his teammates backs, we are in an era where this is done by so few, in a way i was sad to watch this ceremony because i know we are seeing one of the last true gladiators we will probably ever see but it also made me happy because i got to follow his whole career, being 46 i was fortunate enough to follow all the big time tough guys through the years, so much respect for what these guys do and for Neil. Fun

My respect for this warrior. Never thought I will review something like this when I registered in this site, but hockey change and I think we are enjoying the last true enforcer of the game. Boulton and Thornton will gone next season, Neil have something more, I wish at least! Fun

An old school player the likes of which you will never see in todays pussified nhl/hockey. He played the game right which is hard and intense, the way hockey is supposed to be played but sadly is no more. Congrats Chris Neil for your 1000th game, for surviving the tough guy purge and continuing your successful career. Fun

This is actually Neil's 1001st game. He hit 1000 over the weekend against LA, but this is his first home game since then so he was honoured at the start of the game. Nice ceremony.Reply

To be a player of his caliber (i.e. Giving it your all every shift, game, etc.) Being there for your team and have 234 NHL fights in that time span. Literally just wow. A true legend and warrior.Reply

Also.....Anyone else find it kind of sad when he thanks the Sharks for their patience in waiting yet when he looks back toward them, no ones therr. They couldn't even bother to be on the bench supporting him through this great achievement? Or maybe I'm missing something.Reply

For anyone who doesn't know, the mighty Georges Laraque once said that Neil was, pound for pound, the toughest fighter in the NHL. The guy didn't destroy people but you also almost never saw him get beat down either. He went with absolutely everybody, and even when he lost, he was usually standing at the end.Reply

For me Chris Neil defines what North American and especially Canadian hockey once was and should be. If you look at his record from previous years and this season he could be odays champ in NHL. At least he's in a top 5Reply

I echo the sentiments here. Not as much now in today's wussified game but years ago Chris Neil was criticized a lot for how he played but I always enjoyed his old-school style and highly entertaining brand of hockey. He is about as tough as they've ever come and his record speaks for itself; he's s good fighter who's held his own against many of the league's biggest and best, and when he takes on guys more his size he's going to win a lot more than he loses.

He isn't always clean or plays straight up but enforcing isn't always about squaring off with the other team's tough guy. Neil will run around throwing hits, go after star players, start scrums, target guys through the course of the game, chirp, and even throw a cheapshot or two if he thinks it's warranted. Seeing all of that nowadays reminds me of a different time when physical hockey was much more valued.

Having said that, Neil is a typically a clean player who just plays hard and has clearly earned respect from his peers and teammates. Countless coaches and management changes but Neil's been a fixture and a fan favourite. He's improved as a player to keep up with an increasingly faster and more skills-based game while never forgetting what brought him to the NHL a thousand games ago.

Really nice to see a tough guy like Neil reach this milestone and see the tremendous appreciation from fans and the Ottawa Senators.

That is a clear intent to injure. Vlasic is wrapped up with Karlsson and there is no other reason why he would be yanking his stick upwards other than to catch Karlsson up high with a spear. Dirty

Kyle Turris narrow win Fun
2
Marc-Edouard Vlasic gets tangled up in the corner with Erik Karlsson and when Karlsson goes down, Vlasic jabs his stick right at Karlsson's face. It's way behind the play but several of Karlsson's teammates notice, including Kyle Turris who comes right off the bench and goes straight to Vlasic. Turris and Vlasic drop their gloves and Curtis Lazar also grabs Vlasic, prompting Brent Burns to step in and wrestle Lazar away as Turris and Vlasic get in tight and wrestle. Turris lands three rights to the helmet and visor, two of them softly, and then directs Vlasic away from the growing crowd around Burns and Lazar. Vlasic just keeps his head down and Turris misses two rights as a linesman reaches in on them. Vlasic doesn't open up at all but Turris gains a little bit of separation and lands two last rights to the helmet before they're broken apart by the linesman. Very boring fight. Turris landed a few punches but nothing effective at all while Vlasic did nothing the entire fight.

I was hit like this once in my playing days and it damn near knocked me out. I was seeing stars for sure, so I imagine Couture wasn't feeling too well as he was down on the ice. I'm not sure what Hoffman was thinking when he belted the Sharks best player in the back of the head with a vicious crosscheck. But since nobody stuck up for Couture, I guess the league will have to give Hoffman a 3 game suspension so he "learns his lesson." Dirty

Guys, we need to match up our dirty rating with our fun rating, so that we can provide an accurate display of worst cheap shots on the NHL fights homepage. If you give a 9 dirty rating, give it a 9 fun rating and we will start to actually build a list of the worst cheap shots this season.Reply

Unreal. Dillon literally 2 feet away and does nothing except whine to the ref. I get it, it's late in a close game, but Couture is one of your top guys and it's been a dirty game. And it's December, not March. Do something. If Turris can step up for a teammate, why can't Dillon? This is why it's so hard to watch the NHL & hockey in general right now...Reply
