Blake Wheeler clear win Fun
4
Blake Wheeler wishes to exact some revenge after Malkin caught him with a high hit in the teams last meeting. Just over three minutes into the game the two line up for a faceoff and Wheeler issues the challenge. Malkin obliges and the two drop the gloves. After a brief square off the two combatants engage and Wheeler throws a big right that misses or slightly connects with Malkin's helmet, as he is doing so his own helmet falls off. Wheeler follows this up with a right that hits Malkin's back and then another right that lands on the back of Malkin's head. At this point Malkin is turned around and Wheeler attemps to take advantage by throwing a right that misses and another right that lands on the back of Malkin's helmet that disrupts his balance and the momentum of Wheeler's punch causes him to fall to the ice. As he is falling Wheeler throws another right that misses and the linesmen step in. As they are going off to the box, they each give the other a little pat on the back as if to say that their dispute is settled.
In the end it was a clear win for Wheeler in a below average fight as he threw all the punches and was the clear aggressor, but overall no real damage done. However, it was good on Wheeler to issue the challenge and even better on Malkin to accept as both are elite players in the NHL and feel no pressure whatsoever to fight, but this is essentially what the game of hockey is about, you throw a cheap shot and you better answer the bell no matter who you are, and it makes a good case to keep fighting in the game due to the prestige of the players involved and that neither of them were injured.

Blake Wheeler narrow win Fun
4
Evgeni Malkin and Blake Wheeler set up a fight at a faceoff early in this game so when the puck drops Malkin and Wheeler immediately shed the mitts and square off. The fight goes back to the previous game between the two teams where Malkin threw a head hit on Wheeler that sparked a scrum although there was no supplemental discipline on Malkin. Nevertheless the two decide to resolve the matter between them with a tilt and square each other up. Malkin wades in and they grab hold of each other with Malkin leaning away immediately. Wheeler misses a right that knocks his helmet and visor off but also gets Malkin bent over. Wheeler misses a right as Malkin loses his grip and struggles to regain it before Wheeler lands a right to the helmet and visor. Malkin can't get his head up or get a better grip on Wheeler who then throws three rights and lands two, knocking Malkin further off balance. Malkin falls down after getting bent over again and Wheeler misses a right before letting up on the downed Malkin and allowing the linesmen to step in. Short scrap that didn't really get going but Wheeler got some revenge for the hit he took from Malkin, landing a few rights while Malkin didn't get set at all and soon went to the ice. Malkin later said after the game that he chose to fight Wheeler out of respect.

Wheeler challenges Malkin off the draw after a late dirty hit from the last time these two met. Wheeler is the aggressor in this fight. Malkin did not even throw a punch. Clear win, Wheeler.

So-so fight here between these two, and very one-sided. Wheeler threw all the punches in this one, as Malkin didn't even try to respond. Give Malkin credit for taking his medicine after the dirty hit in their last game, but he was clearly overmatched by Wheeler, who is not a heavyweight by any means.

Every pro fighting hockey guy should be thankful for Malkin. I don't know any better way to promote fighting and its importance for the game than undisputed top5 guy of the league drooping the gloves straight from the faceoff. Although Malkin is a bad fighter still his man enough to take responsibility of his former actions. This is a perfect example for the kids in North America and Europe how this game should be played and how you're a real man who doesn't shy behind other guys backs.Reply

Anticipating a rough game after the Winnipeg Jets were mad about Evgeni Malkin's head hit on Blake Wheeler in the last meeting, the Pittsburgh Penguins call up heavyweight enforcer, Tom Sestito from the AHL for this game. After Malkin and Wheeler settle things with a fight of their own, Sestito comes out for a shift and does some chirping with star defenseman, Dustin Byfuglien. The Jets' resident tough guy, Chris Thorburn comes out too and lines up with Sestito at the faceoff. The puck drops and they drop the gloves. They square off and Thoburn gets rid of his elbow pad while Sestito tries to do likewise but can't. Sestito tries to grab on and misses, but then grabs on and lands a nice right while Thorburn grabs on as well. Sestito throws two follow up right and connects with one, then switches hands when Thorburn tries to get in close. Sestito misses two lefts as Thorburn lowers his head and manages to work in close. Sestito switches hands and misses a right, then Thorburn raises his head and stands back while throwing five rights and landing two. Sestito switches hands and counters with a missing left while Thorburn lowers his head and gets back in close. Sestito leans away and lands a left as Thorburn raises his head. Thorburn switches hands and misses two lefts as Sestito switches hands too, missing a right afterwards. Thorburn almost goes down lowering his head again but stays up and presses Sestito to the boards as he misses a right. Thorburn raises his head and loses his helmet doing so while Sestito tries to wrestle Thorburn off balance. Sestito misses two rights as they stand back and Thorburn switches hands, throwing three rights and landing one on the body. Sestito misses a right and they pause while drifting off the boards. Sestito waves off and calls to the linesmen to stay out of the fight while Thorburn just smiles. Sestito misses a right and Thorburn switches hands after they grapple a little bit. Thorburn misses a left that causes his elbow pad to come off and Sestito misses a right before they get back in close. They each stop so the linesmen step in and break it up. Long, spirited, tussle between two heavyweights. I call it a draw with both guys only landing a few and mostly missing with their punches but there was a lot of energy in this fight without a question.

Tom Sestito and Chris Thorburn drop the gloves right after the Malkin and Wheeler fight, it begins with Sestito having words with Dustin Byfuglien and Thorburn intervenes.

Right after the faceoff the big guys drop the mitts and have it, they square off with Sestito on the offense first grabbing Thorburn and tossing a couple of right hands with Thorburn holding on, Sestito switches hands and goes with the left while Thorburn counters with some shots of his own.

Thorburn goes to the body and back up top for a couple of punches while Sestito answers back, Thorburns helmet comes off at this point as Sestito goes with an uppercut and Thorburn tries the body again, Sestito calls off the linesmen and they wrestle a bit more with each guy throwing a couple more punches.

This was a good exchange between two guys who know their roles and did them well right here, i rate it a solid draw as i think both guys landed equally, if Sestito didn't get kicked out of the game not long after this fight i wonder if a rematch would have happened.

Sestito had words with Byfuglien at the draw. Thorburn intervenes. They both square off. Sestito starts off with a flush right hand. Even exchange afterwards. Draw.

Edit: After re-watching the fight, Thorburn landed less than what I originally thought. Slight edge for Sestito. Draw is appropriate as well.

Very nice fight here between these two, definitely better than a 5. Sestito started off with the edge, but Thorburn answered back shortly after. They traded flurries for the rest of the fight until they agreed that was enough. Given the length of the fight, they both showed good stamina throughout. Can't see saddling either player with the loss in this one - well-earned draw for each.

Very dangerous hit here by Sestito. He hit Enstrom high with a head start of about 5 strides. Sestito had ample time to let up and/or drop the elbow. This hit may end up going to the League offices for review. Dirty

It was dirty, but it also wasn't. Sestito didn't leave his feet or lead with an elbow to the head or hit him when he had his head down facing towards the boards. It was just the pure size advantage that made it below the belt. 60 lbs and 8 inches is a huge difference. If Sestito hit Chara like that it would be nothing, but another big hit. Either way it was an unnecessary and unethical hit.Reply

Got to put some of the blame on Enstrom here. He clearly saw that Sestito was going to finish his check and turned his back to him. The thing is that this would have never happened if Big Buff would have dropped the gloves. Not once, but twice Sestito wanted to fight him, but Buff refused both times.Reply

Another case where a guy sees a hit coming and turns away from it. Sestito got the penalty because of his reputation not because of the hit. Unfortunately, this is what the NHL has become. Big hits punished because someone puts themselves in a bad position trying to avoid it. Man up and try to absorb it. Maybe you get knocked on your ass. Who cares? It's hockey, not figure skating!Reply
