There's a pretty wild scrum around Lundqvist's net after the whistle. Shaw and Smith are paired up and they rough each other up pretty good. Smith cross-checked Shaw in the head in game 1 of that series, so Shaw was definitely looking for some retribution.

Smith falls down and Shaw has his helmet off as a result of the prior rough stuff. Smith tries to get back up and Shaw rips his helmet off to get into a fair fight and not give an advantage to Smith from the very start. He knew they were going to fight, so very smart move by Shaw here. Smith gets back up and they both drop their gloves. Smith misses a left and drags Shaw away from the main scrum. Smith lands three decent rights and Shaw lands a bomb. Smith misses a couple of jabs and Shaw partially connects on an uppercut. Both trade a right; Smith misses it and Shaw partially connects. Shaw reloads and lands a short right before Smith lands a decent right. Both guys miss a right and Shaw misses a jab. Shaw lands a right and Smith tries to pull Shaw's jersey over his head but drags the linesmen in by doing so. He lands a final left uppercut as the linesmen are in on them. The fight is over.

I rate this fight as a draw. Both men got on target the same amount of punches. The power of those punches can be argued but I feel like a draw is fair. The bout was considerably short but both guy were throwing from downtown and landed around 5 good punches in on each other. Neither guy started the scrap with their helmets on and just traded.

I give this fight a 6 for the fun rating. It's a shame the linesmen stepped in even if they felt Shaw was in trouble. Carey, who's not a big demonstrator of joy, really enjoyed that scrap from Shaw, one of their locker room leaders. A playoff scrap in 2017 is also pretty fair, so it's a bonus that we got a good fight. I feel like this fight is above average for an NHL fight for all those reasons, even though the punch count would fit more the description of a "5" fun fight.

At this point, Shaw had great playoff experience with the Chicago Blackhawks, winning two Stanley Cups with them. Shaw is not having a great series hockey-wise but in that game, he raised his physical play by a notch, running over Oscar Lindberg with a huge hit and taking on 6'2'' experienced Brendan Smith, who was a very physical d-man against the Canadiens thus far. Since nothing was going his way with the puck, he managed to make a difference with physicality. Shaw is a very passionate hockey player and has a big heart. Every player on his team love him. Unfortunately, his efforts were useless for the Canadiens. They lost that game in overtime and their level of effort as a team in general are questioned. Nonetheless, Shaw's hard work cannot be criticized. Smith is a pretty decent fighter and he went toe-to-toe with him.

He used in this fight a bit of the tactics he was using in juniors when he used to engage in wars with heavyweights and he was capable of landing bombs with the right hand. He used to be very good at landing straight rights on taller opponents. His fun ratings are way down since he's been in the NHL and some hockey fight fans criticise him for that (me the first), so I'm happy he decided to trade bombs here in a playoff series.

Andrew Shaw and Brendan Smith get tangled up in front of the net and as other players come in, Smith and Shaw get away from the growing crowd and drop the gloves to fight. Both men lose their helmet (and Smith his visor) before they get their head up. Smith throws three rights and lands two as Shaw leans away but then lands a right. Shaw lands a right and then misses a right as Smith misses a right. Shaw lands a right as Smith ducks away but then lands a right of his own. Shaw misses a right and Smith then misses a right before getting in close on Shaw who misses a right. Shaw ducks his head as Smith pulls the jersey up and over it and then switches hands. The linesmen hurry in just after Smith misses a left and the fight ends there. Not a great fight. Both guys landed a couple though and I call this one a draw.

Pretty good fight here between these two. The NYR showed here that they have had enough of the Habs crashing the net, so Smith decided to take a stand against Shaw. Both players landed about the same number of decent punches - solid draw for each.

Short fight with Smith grabbing a quick lead early with a couple rights, Shaw comes on to even it up with some rights of his own, draw.

Lindberg left the game. He was cut badly near the eye. I think his visor cut him real bad. Dirty
