Should realistically only be a 2 for the actual impact, but I'll give this a bonus point for Seabrook toppling over the boards. Dirty

Big hit and a fight for Foligno tonight who had a good game. It's not very often you see a player get hit into the bench these days. Great hit. Foligno always brought the physicality which is why as a Sabres fan, I was so disappointed that they traded him away. He'll definitely provide a much needed physical presence for Minnesota.Reply

John Hayden win by TKO Fun

Marcus Foligno gets into a fight with big rookie forward John Hayden. These two men are the same size although Foligno is the more experienced of the two. This fight likely stemmed from Foligno's big hit on Chicago star defenseman Brent Seabrook earlier in the game where Foligno put him into his own bench. The outcome of the fight would be a surprise.

They go at it at center ice. Both men connect with a short right before missing with a right. Each man misses again before they pull in close and Foligno tosses two body shots. Foligno lands a right to the side of the head before missing with another right hand. They grapple with both men missing with a right before Foligno lands a weak one to the side of the head. Hayden surprises Foligno with a quick left jab, snapping his head back.

Hayden jabs away again as Foligno's helmet is loosened. Foligno answers with a right cross that connects. Hayden misses with a right while Foligno gets one in. Foligno manages to get Hayden's helmet off after pulling him in close. Hayden suddenly comes back and he throws an absolute bomb that connects right to Foligno's jaw. Foligno instantly drops to his knees. He starts to regain his footing but the officials step between them.

Hayden was cut over the left eye but he can take away the fact that he won the fight. This was a solid performance on his part. As previously mentioned, Foligno is the more experienced fighter and he has tangled with some tough customers including Shawn Thornton, Mark Fraser, Kyle Clifford, Cody McLeod, and Tom Wilson. Yet Hayden willing traded punches with Foligno and he caught Marcus with a big punch that dropped him, earning the TKO win.

Foligno and Hayden drop their gloves and come together. Foligno lands a good right as Hayden misses a right. They both miss a right and Foligno lands a right before the two combattants miss the target again with a right. Foligno lands a short left and lands two body blows before landing a short right. Foligno then partially buckles Hayden's knees with a hard right to his face. Hayen counters by missing a right and Foligno lands a good body blow. Marcus then misses two rights and Hayden gets some good jabs in on Foligno. Foligno misses a right and Hayden misses a right before Foligno lands a good helmet shot and rips Hayden's helmet off. Hayden then gets separation from Foligno and unloads a huge right cross that lands right on Foligno's cheekbone and drops him to his knees. The fight ends right there as Foligno doesn't get back up right away and a linesman is starting to close in on the fight. The two combattants walk away from the fight.

I rate this good tilt as a TKO win for Hayden. It was almost a KO but Foligno only fell on his knees and got back up without looking dizzy. Before that last blow, it was a narrow/clear win for Foligno because he was landing more and better. It is the first time in Foligno's career that he gets dropped like that, so good showing from Hayden who has almost no experience in the fighting department.

John Hayden wants a piece of Marcus Foligno since Foligno had thrown a big hit on Brent Seabrook that put Seabrook into the bench earlier in the game. Folgino accepts Hayden's challenge and they drop the gloves, grabbing on near centre ice. Foligno and Hayden miss a right at the same time and Hayden misses a right after Foligno misses a right. They spin and Foligno misses a right before Hayden misses a right and tries to get in closer. Foligno misses a right but then switches hands and lands a left that backs Hayden off slightly. Foligno switches hands and throws four rights then, landing three with two of them to the body. Hayden misses a right as they regain some separation and Foligno misses three rights. Hayden jersey jabs Foligno but then Foligno lands a right and Hayden misses a right, both guys struggling to keep their grip after. Foligno misses a right as they spin and then pulls Hayden's helmet and visor off. Hayden misses a right but then lands a big right while Foligno misses a right and Foligno is buckled. Foligno bounces back up but a linesman moves between them and they break apart. Foligno had more control of the fight and was more active than Hayden, who was more tentative to open up. But Hayden hung in there and caught Foligno on the button with a right that sent him to a knee and ended the fight. Foligno ended up with a fracture in his face as a result of that big punch from Hayden.

I think Hayden was a bit lucky in this fight. Foligno clearly got the better of him before that punch. Still an impressive win for Hayden.

Pretty decent fight here between these two. For quite awhile, they were exchanging punches and holding their own. All of a sudden, Hayden unleashed a haymaker of a right that caught Foligno right on the button, ending the fight. Give Hayden the TKO win in this one, but I'm sure there will be a rematch down the road.

Foligno is winning most of the fight having landed a few rights but Hayden came on in the 2nd half landing a nice jersey jab then a few seconds later closing the fight with a hard right that drops Foligno to a knee, TKO win Hayden.

This was easily Marcus' worst lost of his NHL career up to this point. Great job by Hayden against a tough opponent.

Wouldn't count on it. I'd be surprised if he had 5 fights this season. That was a nice right hand that he buckled Foligno with though. Hopefully we get to see him step up into more scraps like this, I just doubt it will be a regular thing.Reply

I agree, he didn't look good till the lucky bomb connected but that shouldn't be surprising considering he's only had 5 fights his whole hockey career and the only video of him show him being soundly beaten by Justin Woods. Someone asked if "Chicago finally has someone that can fight" and the answer would be no.Reply

Very precise observation. I do not want to degrade Hayden's knockdown, nor is it my intention to do so. However, his throwing mechanism is that of an amateur. I have seen a still frame picture of this fight and his thumb was slightly exposed (sticking out) while simultaneously making a clenched fist; that is to be avoided at all times as it dramatically increases the likelihood of fracturing your thumb.

Nevertheless, if Hayden can fight on consistent basis - that would be superb in today's era where there is a plethora of emasculated chumps who are products of the pussification of junior hockey.

Preach brother! These guys should know better, they played the game, there needs to be someone controlling the ice. You see it in senior hockey, the one fight rule is a joke, guys take liberties nonstop and headshots and stick work are over the top.Reply

The truly depressing part is that it will only get worse from here, never better. We have already long since passed the hilltop, and are only descending a slope that gets steeper and steeper as we go.

Even the LNAH is fucking ruined this year, hardly any fights in the one god damn league we fight fans still had to hold on to. Truly demoralizing.

There's that other Quebec league below the LNAH, but those guys can hardly stand up so it's not great.Reply

Oct 15 00:04 ET
Sad but true, it was once such a great sport and what's left of it isn't even hockey.
Also sad to hear about the LNAH's decline but you could see that coming also. There's not much fighting left on the junior level so where are you going to find guys to do it on the senior level. What you get is what LoKoL said, a bunch of guys willing but hardly able to stand up.
Wow, if you told me 40 years ago I'd be typing this I'd have told you that was crazy but here we are.
