Luke Witkowski decisive win Fun
4
Luke Witkowski and Brett Kulak meet up late in a blowout game and Witkowski wants a piece of Kulak for roughing up David Booth earlier. Kulak and Witkowski drop the gloves and quickly grab on with the left, spinning as they do so. Kulak misses a right after Witkowski misses a right while lunging in. Kulak leans away and Witkowski throws five more rights, landing three with two connecting well on Kulak. Kulak's helmet and visor gets knocked off and then he's knocked off balance by Witkowski's rights and goes to the ice. Witkowski stands over Kulak and tries to rough him up a little bit before stepping away and having a couple words with Travis Hamonic.

I hope they charged Hamonic for his seat watching a douche like Witkowski ragdoll his teammate...Jesus man do something other than standing there while your teammate is being violated. Is it the potential loss of money that keeps players from sticking up for their teammates? Seeing this ALOT now, and I don't like it.Reply

It's an automatic ten game suspension for any player who returns to the ice after being taken off by the officials. Pretty obvious he was guilty of that.

10 games has been a rule before, but in today's watered down pussy league he may get banned.

Tempers are somewhat high late in a blowout game and things escalate quickly soon after Luke Witkowski clearly wins a fight he finds against Brett Kulak. Witkowski jaws with Travis Hamonic afterwards but then Witkowski, who was initially sent to the penalty box, is directed off the ice. As Witkowski is leaving between the benches there's some more jawing going on but then Matt Tkachuk comes in from behind on Witkowski and gives him a jab in the back of the leg with the stick. It's not a big cheapshot but Witkowski takes issue with the stickwork and waves at Tkachuk before stepping back onto the ice. Witkowski shoves with Tkachuk and Hamonic as a linesman tries to get between them. More players get in as a linesman grabs Witkowski to wrestle him back off the ice but Tkachuk takes a swing at Witkowski, landing a gloved left that knocks his helmet and visor off. Jonathan Ericsson tries to push Tkachuk back as Anthony Mantha tackles Hamonic. Jimmy Howard comes in then, grabbing Mark Giordano who gets a gloved right in on Howard. Micheal Ferland goes down to the end of the bench to get involved, grabbing at Ericsson in the middle of the melee. Teammates immediately try to hold Ferland back. Meanwhile Hamonic gets up with Mantha and they start scrapping along the bench boards. The rest of the players pair off as Howard and Giordano are broken up but then Mantha and Hamonic wind up in the hallway; Mantha on top of Hamonic. The linesman with them can't really get a hold on Mantha who gets in some punches and roughs up Hamonic who can't defend himself well. Tkachuk eventually winds up with Henrik Zetterberg and prods at him before they get broken up. Mantha is eventually pulled off of Hamonic and taken off the ice while Hamonic winds up bloodied. Not a huge brawl but decently eventful and a pretty unusual fight between Hamonic and Mantha which wound up in the hallway separating the two benches. Fun

I feel like I should mention that other than Witkowski mouthing off to Ferland and beating down Kulak, this entire event was Tkachuk's fault. Things seemed to be settling down a little, Witkowski is making his way to the locker room, and Tkachuk just HAS to get in that one little extra shot. He jabs Witkowski with his stick, and sure enough, Witkowski comes right back to the ice and tries to get at Tkachuk. Everything falls apart from there. Basically, if Tkachuk keeps himself from jabbing at Witkowski, he avoids all the chaos that ensues, which means Hamonic doesn't get bloodied by Mantha.Reply

Anthony Mantha clear win Fun
6
The Hamonic-Mantha fight was slightly above average by today's NHL standards. Just the pure emotion these two guys showed throughout the tussle made this event worthwhile.
Everything starts after the Witkowski-Kulak fight. Witkowski is being ushered to the dressing room after his fight, which means the officials have to get him safely through the bench opening right next to the Flames' bench. Matthew Tkachuk skates over to the opening and gives Witkowski a love-tap across the calf to show his disapproval of the Detroit tough guy's actions. Witkowski turns around and springs back onto the ice to challenge three Flames, and players from both teams pile in. Standing nearby are Anthony Mantha of Detroit, and Travis Hampnic of the Flames. Hamonic piles in and Mantha grabs him up high and pulls him away from the scrum. A western-Canadian playing for a team near home, Hamonic is already fired up after seeing his D-partner, 23-year-old Brett Kulak eat some fearsome right hands and get pounded into the ice by Witkowski. Kulak, playing in his 40th NHL game, registered just his 3rd pro fight, vs the 38 Witkowski has under his belt.
All of this has put the fire in Hamonic's eyes. However, he is put over the top when Mantha wrestles him to the ice. Hamonic sheds his mits and begins to fight. Hamonic gets the jump on Mantha, who is late to shed the gloves. Hamonic throws a couple blows and pulls the jersey over Mantha's head. Hamonic continues to throw rights as Mantha swings him around toward the bench, but he is locked out by the proximity of their bodies. Mantha begins to throw punches, miraculously landing two solid blows to the side of Hamonic's head while his own head is still inside his jersey. Mantha now has turned the tables and has control of the fight. He throws another right and then the players disappear as they topple over onto the floor of the tunnel with Mantha on top. Mantha appears to still be aggressively throwing punches as the linesmen try to yank him off of Hamonic. It's a clear win for Mantha, who fittingly picked up the Gordie Howe hat-trick in one of the first games at the new arena. Mantha was controlling the fight before they fell to the ground, so he had already done enough to win it by the time he threw a few extra shots on a downed player.

Anthony Mantha decisive win Fun
6
A brawl breaks out between the benches and everyone on the ice piles in. Anthony Mantha wrestles down Travis Hamonic at the outset but then lets off of him. Hamonic leaps up and drops the gloves and they grab on with Hamonic throwing three rights and landing one before getting wrestled up against the boards by Mantha. Mantha just tries to hold Hamonic there and get in tight but Hamonic maneuvers partially off the boards and gets free enough to miss a right. Hamonic then gets rid of Mantha's helmet and visor and lands two rights. Mantha finally drops the gloves and misses two rights but then gets jerseyed by Hamonic who then misses a right while his own helmet and visor is removed by Mantha. Mantha then throws three rights, landing two while wrestling Hamonic down the boards. Hamonic then falls through the open door, landing on his back in the hallway with Mantha falling on top. A linesman tries to pull Mantha off of Hamonic but Mantha is pretty mad and keeps fighting. Mantha lands three rights as Hamonic just tries to defend himself from on his back with the linesman struggling to restrain Mantha. Hamonic keeps the jersey over Mantha's head but then the linesman lets up on Mantha so Mantha throws three more rights at Hamonic, landing two before the linesman gets right into the hallway to break them up. The linesman finally gets Mantha off of Hamonic who emerges from the hallway bloodied and marked up. This was a pretty unusual fight with it continuing in the hallway between them benches. Mantha was on top of Hamonic the whole time there and roughed him pretty good after Hamonic had been in control while the fight was on the ice.
