Chris Stewart and Kurtis MacDermid drop the gloves and square off at a faceoff. Stewart wades in while showing left as MacDermid shows right, then Stewart grabs on and lands a left. MacDermid grabs on too and gets his right arm up to block as Stewart switches hands and lands a right. Stewart tries to knock MacDermid's helmet and visor off and then throws seven straight rights, landing four with one to the body as MacDermid leans away. Stewart switches hands again and then lands a left as MacDermid lands a right. MacDermid misses two follow up rights as Stewart gets in close but quickly stands back again. Stewart lands a left while MacDermid misses a right but then MacDermid lands a right and afterwards lands another right as Stewart misses a left. Stewart resets and misses a left as MacDermid misses a right but then Stewart misses another left while MacDermid lands a right that gets Stewart off balance. MacDermid throws four rights and lands one as Stewart puts his head down and switches hands. Stewart raises his head and misses a right before MacDermid misses a right, then MacDermid misses a right while Stewart misses a right. MacDermid misses a right, Stewart misses a right, and MacDermid throws three rights, landing two afterwards. Stewart then fakes a right and grabs at MacDermid's helmet but can't get it off and MacDermid lands a right. Stewart grabs for the helmet again but then leans away as MacDermid misses a right. Stewart misses a right and MacDermid lands two rights before falling down as Stewart misses two rights. MacDermid gets up but the linesmen move in on the two and break it up with both guys ready for the fight to be over at that point. Stewart says something to MacDermid and they head to the penalty box. Good fight between two big guys. Stewart got an early lead and started fast against the younger and less experienced MacDermid but as the fight wore on, MacDermid used his superior size better, keeping Stewart out of range through the later rounds and taking control of the fight. Call it a draw.

Stewart starts off strong and throws about 10 unanswered punches with few landing. MacDermid finally answers and they start trading shots. Stewart switches hands while MacDermid throws the rights. MacDermid takes over and lands some nice shots. Stewart comes back and MacDermid goes down off balance but gets back up. Even fight and a good one.

Nice tilt. Stewart early starting southpaw but MacDermid finished strong. He had some decent pop in those long right hands he was connecting on. Good showing by both men.

Lotta helmet punching is all I saw. 20 years ago this would have been a 5 but by todays standards it goes up a tad.

Good fight, nice open exchange between the two as they trade blows the entire fight, Stewart is effective switching hands and is able to land several blows with each while MacDermid threw rights exclusively but landed an equal amount of total blows, a well fought draw to both men.

Heavyweight tilts are so rare nowadays so it's almost always worth watching the game just for the fightReply

Problem is you've now got to watch 7 or 8 games for a toe-to-toe fight nowadays. Have fun with watching Ice Capades for 20 hours just for that 1-minute thrill.Reply

You're absolutely right. Five years ago this fight would've been a random regular season fight but now it's best what this league can offer. In todays NHL these two are legit top10 guys. Five years ago they would've been top15 at their best.Reply

This is not a heavyweight tilt. Just 5 years ago, Stewart and MacDermid would have been considered middleweights. Guys like Godard, McGrattan, T. Gillies, Colton Orr, would all MAUL these two.

I'm with you man, there is no way this fight is less than a 7. It was long, both guys threw and landed a lot of punches, it was back and forth. This is as good a fight as you're going to see in 2017

MacDermid is 6'5", 233. Not sure how in any era he would be considered a middlweight.Reply

He was most probably referring to their status compared to genuine heavyweight fighters as opposed to their actual size.Reply

I would still say a guy like him should at least be considered a light heavy.

This was a heavyweight fight cause there isn't too many other fighters in the league that could be considered as heavyweights. Maybe something between 5 and 10. Godard, McGrattan and Orr are all gone and Gillies is enjoying his twilight years in the minors in Florida so that's just pure speculation what would've happened five years ago. Godard, McGrattan and Orr are probably in the NHL's all time top20 so there's plenty of former and current fighters that would've been mauled by these three. Tie Domi was also beaten by McGrattan so do you think he wasn't a heavyweight?

MacDermid is a big boy and few years ago took against Orr as a rookie in Colt's last pro fight. That didn't went too well for MacDermid but so what. Most of the rookies wouldn't even skate near Colton Orr.

Colton Orr at this point was washed up, had a very bad last season with the Leafs fight wise, and was pretty much no where near his former self. And he nearly killed MacDermid.

I don't think that we should change the definition of a heavyweight enforcer just because the game changed and there are no more heavies. We should just look at it as the end of the "heavyweight enforcer" era. What we have nowadays are oversized middleweighte that would get killed by the Orrs, Godards or McGrattans.

100% agree you can't change the definition of "heavyweight enforcer", this would be a disservice to all those legendary great fighters of a bygone era. A guy like MacDermid would be considered a middie in most eras and at his size he should not be but skill wise he's not a heavy by any means, forget the heavies and look how he would do vs. middies of that era. Asham, Clarkson, Lappy, are just 3 off the top of my head that would feed MacDermid his lunch.
