In the new, friendlier WHL it's harder for the players to know what they're getting in to when there is no real "book" on most guys. No real fight history to watch on Youtube on the bus trips and no real gossip. That may have just changed for Alex Kannok-Leipert.

Both of these guys have had one previous career fight in the WHL. Both show as wins and AKL's first was a beauty of a TKO. Did he just get lucky or is this kid destined to be the real deal?

Jackson Leppard cuts through the slot and takes a knee on knee from AKL. Liam Ryan glides in and has a few words and they agree to go. This one is no contest, AKL moves in, grabs on and throws what I counted as 19 rights and 2 lefts, lots landing, while Ryan manages only a few wild looping rights. AKL looks like a seasoned veteran in the 90's just taking apart Ryan with ease in a textbook beatdown. Not quite a TKO but a big league win and some serious poise from a 17 year old who has rarely looked interested in this side of the game. Great scrap!

For the last 3 years, the Prince George Cougars have been taking liberty after liberty on the Giants captain Tyler Benson. He has brought some of it on himself by chirping and sticking guys, but he's not a fighter and has taken a few beatings and jumpings, including a mugging this year by the just traded Kody MacDonald and an attempted jumping by the also just traded heavyweight Josh Anderson. Skeoch has been trying to get pretty much anyone from Prince George to go, especially Anderson, but no one ever steps up. MacDonald did answer the bell once but immediately pulled the chute in a brief scrap earlier this year.

Well the Cougars look like they've finally found someone willing to at least try to match up with Skeoch when they traded for Austin Crossley. He's had a few good, middle and heavyweight tilts over the last year and a half but this is his first real super-heavyweight test. They've obviously been chatting and agreed to head out to center ice and do it right.

They square off and circle each other and Skeoch snaps a quick left that sends Crossley's helmet flying. He follows that up with a savage over and under combination of rights, then another hard right. Crossley manages to get a quick right of his own in and pops Skeoch's helmet off. Skeoch switches up and lands a big left and then a final right and that's it for Crossley who goes down on his back.

Kudos to this Crossley kid for showing the home fans he's game. It's tough for these young guys to get much "practice" in now, 4-5 fights a year for most willing guys makes it hard to get any type of confidence or momentum and it's especially tough if you take a big loss. It will eat you up for weeks before you get a chance to go again. Skeoch couldn't be more confident and is a man amongst boys this year. Another easy win for him here.

Glad you like them. We gave up our tickets when the team moved to Langley but I try to keep an eye on the team and the league. The occasional fight review helps me to still feel connected to a sport that is slipping away from what made it so fun to watch.Reply
