Terry Ryan and Matt O'Dette decide to go. This is a great challenge for Ryan, giving up four inches and twenty pounds. O'Dette is a tough heavyweight who likes to open up and is a skilled fighter. They come together and O'Dette trips on a stick. He gets back up and both men decide to slug it out in a fast-paced toe-to-toe battle, O'Dette with the lefts and Ryan with the rights. They trade non-stop for seven seconds and don't switch hands. O'Dette lands a left before missing a left. He lands a huge left right on Ryan's chin before landing another left. He lands a body blow and then misses three lefts. He partially connects on three blows and misses one. He partially connects on a left and lands a left before missing a final left. Ryan lands three short rights before missing two and partially connecting on one. He misses two rights and lands a good one. He lands two good rights before missing one and landing another good one. Their toe-to-toe battle finishes and they wrestle in tight. Ryan lands an uppercut and misses a right before landing a decent right. O'Dette lands a fore-arm shiver and partially connects on a left. O'Dette's strap/tie-down breaks and they both decide to end the fight there and they let the linesmen come in to separate them and end the fight.

I rate this fight as a draw. O'Dette started the toe-to-toe part very well but Ryan ended it very well also. Both guys landed some punches afterwards. Very close fight; Ryan landed a bit more and better but O'Dette landed the best punch of the fight.

Ryan always gave you your moneys worth in a great scrap. O'Dette stayed with Terry for the draw.

Excellent toe to toe action before some wrestling and in fighting takes over, both guys land a bunch making this too close to call and a hard earned draw to both.

I think this fight is worthy of a Toe-to-toe tag.

Ryan opened up in almost every single one of his fights in his rookie campaign, but most of them were borderline textbook toe-to-toe. This one is not; I think it is t2t.

Rocky Thompson narrow win Fun
9
Rocky Thompson was giving up forty pounds to the mammoth Fleming. Rocky was as tough as nails and eagerly took on the biggest and baddest men around. He went right after Gerry in a furious slugfest.

Fleming missed a right hand and landed a partial connect. He landed a body punch and a solid right to the head. Rocky missed a punch, landed a solid blow, missed a couple of shots, and had a decent connect. Fleming missed with a few rights. Thompson landed a body punch and two solid lefts.

Fleming connected with two solid rights. He switched hands and missed with four consecutive left hooks. The decision to switch to the left hand backfired as Thompson got a solid grip on his left arm which mitigated the effect of the blows and also caused the accuracy to be a bit off. Rocky had his best moments in the bout when Gerry switched to lefty. Fleming did manage to land three partially connecting lefts.

Thompson was able to connect with a series of effective shots when Fleming turned southpaw. Gerry got more into the punching range of his left crosses and they started to connect with regularity. Rocky landed two solid blows and two pretty good lefts. He missed a punch and connected with a couple more solid shots.

Fleming missed a punch and connected with a solid left. Then, he rag-dolled Thompson to the ice. Fleming switched back to throwing rights and had his most effective spurt in the bout. He landed a partial connect and a pretty good right. He missed a follow up blow. Thompson threw five consecutive left hands that fell just short of the target.

Fleming landed a solid right, missed a couple of punches and Rocky tied up his right arm. Fleming switched to the left hand again. He was off-balance and missed wildly. Thompson tagged him with a solid punch that put him down. He missed a follow up blow. The refs stopped the bout. Rocky began to celebrate. Gerry continued to fight despite being restrained by an official. He landed a couple of partial connects, but these were extra-curricular and should not count in the scoring.

I rate this as a narrow win for Thompson. Rocky landed more punches and with better pop. He scored a knockdown at the end, but it was messy and poor balance played a big factor in Gerry going down. Fleming was competitive in the fight, but he lost in part because Thompson was the superior tactician.

Fleming was a guy with tremendous physical tools. He could punch with both hands and he had great fighting stamina. He was a very good fighter in his prime. He had incredible physical strength. He had two wins over Link Gaetz which was an incredible accomplishment.

Fleming had some flaws that kept him from having a long shelf life as a top enforcer. He was not much of a tactician. He overpowered guys with brute strength in his early years. His massive size translated into great punching power as he threw blows with textbook form.

Gerry was increasingly easy to hit as time went on. He did not enjoy great success in the NHL. He lost twice to Rob Ray in his brief stint with the Canadiens. He had a tendency to flail away a little as well at times. This was the case in his action bouts with Frank Bialowas and Thompson. He displayed frantic activity in these exciting slugfests, but on closer examination, he missed with a good percentage of his shots.

Fleming was outboxed by the clever southpaw Thompson. Rocky stuck with his plan of throwing powerful left hands. Gerry switched hands at times, but he should have never gone lefty in this bout. Rocky made him pay by landing his most effective blows when Fleming went southpaw. Thompson outboxed the huge Fleming and showed that brains combined with above-average brawn can defeat a much bigger opponent who employs the wrong fight plan.

Wow what a fight, both guys throwing lefts and rights, a whole lot is landing.
Could be called a draw but I think Rocky gets the slight edge for his good finish.

I agree it was a great fight. Bombs were flying and they both landed a lot of big punches. Rocky had a strong finish, he got Fleming turned around and landed one to the back of his head and Fleming went down.

Great square off a corner faceoff.WHAT A FUCKIN CLASSIC SLUGFEST!! They just stand and flail in a long one.Thompson goes down mid way but gets up and takes over eventually knocking Fleming down.Rocky then celebrates wildly as Fleming gets up and throws bombs over the linesmen.

Clearly a bunch of Saint Johners here... A much tougher Gerry controls this fight with his size moving rocky around and landing more blows. All the scare crow did here to get win consideration was pull flemming down when he was off balance at the end. Narrow win Flemming.

Excellent battle as both trade the entire bout, both land a bunch but it's Thompson who lands a bit more overall to earn the hard fought victory.
