Out of a scrum along the corner boards Horacek drops his gloves and throws a big punch at Primeau. They grapple briefly and go to the ice before the linesmen get between them.

Darren McCarty win by TKO Fun
8
I've been a hockey fan for a long time but no matter what, if you think you've seen everything you'll be proven wrong. All kinds of action going on in this one. A trio of players from both Chicago and Detroit are mixing it up in the corner, and all three decide to drop the gloves and go at the same time. McCarty and Russell pair off and at first Russell is landing, but McCarty starts dropping the lefts on him and knocks him to the ice. I can see why the call between TKO and decisive on this one is difficult, due to the lack of linesmen involvement and the camera moving from fight to fight. However, I did see the punches that McCarty landed take Russell off his feet before he landed on top of him so I'll call the first round between them a TKO. Great job by McCarty in getting his left going and landing it cleanly, Russell didn't seem to know what hit him (maybe he didn't know McCarty was a southpaw, or maybe he thought he caught a break not having to pair off with Probert) but he found out the hard way that McCarty, while no Probert, is a pretty tough guy in his own right.

McCarty lands a nice uppercut and misses and haymaker the uppercut knocked Russel helmit off.
McCarty then exsplods with about 5-6 hard shots to Russels ear.
Russel falls and McCarty pounds Russel face into the ice.
Russel trys to get up but he gets nailed with a few bombs to the back of the head and a uppercut send Russel down again.
Then Russel gets up to a knee and McCarty nails him with a huge uppercut.
Russel pops up and grabs on to the back of McCartys jersey.
They both go down with McCarty on top.

A brawl erupts and Cam Russell pairs off with Darren McCarty. McCarty throws a few lefts as the fight begins and he lands them all but none are very effective. Russell comes back with a couple lefts that miss. McCarty throws a handful more of rights and connects with a few. Russell ducks his head, switches hands, and misses a right. Russell pulls off McCarty's jersey and misses a right as McCarty begins to throw a couple handfuls of lefts and lands a bunch. Russell goes to the ice, gets back up, but goes down again. McCarty connects with a few more rights as Russell gets back up but falls down for yet another time. McCarty goes down on top of Russell. McCarty gets off of Russell but neither guy was done yet. All McCarty in this round, he pounded Russell to the ice. Good fight.

McCarty hit Russell with a flurry of lefts which buckled the knees of Russell who eventually was wrestled down. They went at it again as soon as they got up. This time they held on to each other but once again McCarty managed to tag Russell with a good left. In the database this should really be seen as one fight and not count as two in the fightcard.

I fail to see how Russell could have jumped McCarty when Russell's gloves were still on when McCarty threw the first punches but to each their own I guess.Reply

Lemieux and Halkidis wrestle along the boards and Lemieux gets the takedown. They continue wrestling when Probert comes along and tugs on Lemieux's sweater and Halkidis gets the upper hand in the wrestling match. The linesmen try to separate them and Halkidis, by now standing over Lemieux, throws a big left that appears to hit the arm of the linesman lying next to Lemieux on the ice.

Darren McCarty decisive win Fun

After getting dropped in round 1, Russell decides to try McCarty again and doesn't do a whole lot better in round 2 (I've never seen a situation where two guys had two distinctly different fights at the exact same time in game). Russell again gets off to a good start, landing some nice rights but as with round 1 McCarty drops him with a series of lefts again. This time I have to call it decisive, though, because for whatever reason the linesmen are just standing and watching so Russell makes his way back to his feet, gets dropped, and this keeps going on until McCarty takes him to the ice and the zebras finally decide to separate them. As they make their way to their respective dressing rooms Russell looks like he's barely going to make it, small wonder considering he managed to get his ass whipped in two consecutive fights. Very impressive showing by McCarty.

Just watched this fight in slow motion. Mostly a wrestling match with maybe 10 head/face punches landed. Pretty equal landed punch count for both except for McCarty's body punches towards the end of the fight. Russell had some major balance issues & was doing the splits before McCarty threw that punch that someone says was a TKO. Some of McCarty's shots missed and hit shoulder or went over Russell's head. McCarty goes for the takedown at the end & doesn't give Russell another chance to get up again. The Best punches of the fight were the first 2 thrown by Russell at the beginning, one of which cut McCarty for a bunch of stitches according to McCarty himself. I give McCarty the win in a pretty even fight because of the body shots. Russell made it look worse than what it was with his lack of balance but did a very good job this time around especially being allowed to square off.

McCarty lands one and Russel trys to get back up.

McCarty and Russell decide to fight one more time before they leave the ice. Russell lands some decent punches this time but takes some hard lefts from McCarty that put him down again. Russell gets up and keeps throwing but goes down again and when he gets up again McCarty starts throwing body punches before throwing Russell to the ice one final time.

Darren McCarty and Cam Russell finished their first scrap, (a one-sided loss for Russell) with both guys on the ice. McCarty skates away and removes his upper body equipment and Russell gets up and squares off with McCarty. Russell lands a right and then McCarty lands a left as they grab onto each other. Russell throws a couple rights and lands one while McCarty throws a few lefts and lands a couple as Russell loses his legs. McCarty throws a few rights and lands one as he goes down too. Russell gets up wrestling with McCarty. They stand back and Russell connects with a couple rights as McCarty misses a left. They both drop to the ice but get up and wrestle. McCarty switches hands and misses a right and then switches hands. McCarty throws a handful of lefts as he wrestles and lands a couple while Russell throws a couple rights that miss. They go down again and McCarty lands a left as he wrestles with Russell on the ice. The linesmen then come and separate the two. Another fairly good fight between them. A lot more even than the first one but still the nod goes to McCarty.

Here's what McCarty himself told reporter Jim Ramsey : "It was a five-on-five skirmish and I came in to help Keith Primeau in the corner. Russell hit me from behind. I was trying to make the team and stick up for myself. So I turned around and we went at it. I hit him a couple of times and had him on the ice. He said I had taken advantage of him and had jumped him. But it was the other way around. So I said 'Oh well, why don't we do it again?'. I went out, took my gear off, went to center ice and we squared off. It was like an old movie in slow motion. We went to hit each other but he had a bigger reach. He hit me first and cut me for about ten stitches. Then I hit him and we went down. We wrestled around and threw a few more punches."Reply

Punch count might be low for McCarty. He was throwing punches when the camera cut away to the Detroit bench (by the way, nice work, I was wondering how they'd react) and when it cut back Russell was on the ice.Reply
