Craig Berube narrow win Fun
5
A great square off, Crowder actually was bored and asked Berube to come in. They both hit each other with stiff rights as they came together. Crowder landed his right better and seemed to stun Berube a little. Berube righted himself and landed two punches including a good uppercut, Crowder missed with a couple of weak rights and they went down. Crowder landed the best punch, but Berube landed 3 while Crowder didn't seem to land more than the first punch when they got together, so that's why I gave Berube the nod. Would not argue a straight up draw.

Craig Berube narrow win Fun

These were a couple of the best fighters in the NHL in their prime. Crowder and Berube were two big hitters with good pop in their right hands. Troy missed a punch and landed a pretty good right hand. The Chief missed a punch, landed a pretty good right, and landed a solid uppercut. Troy missed a couple of punches, landed a decent right, and landed a couple of light raps. The men wrestled each other to the ice.

I rate this as a narrow win for Berube. I think Craig landed a couple of above-average blows while Crowder only landed one power punch. It was a close bout, but Craig had established a very slim edge in my mind for landing with better pop.

Philadelphia Daily News had a great photo of this fight on the back page the next day. Berube had the white home jersey on but had the black helmet on. Really weird looking picture.Reply

Are you sure about the date? I think they fought a year before in the pre-season. I remember the photo (i think it can be found on one of the sites) and i think Crowder wore a different jersey (different jersey number). Can you take a look at this?Reply

I've seen that photo, too. Crowder and Berube are squaring off, and Chief is wearing a black helmet with the white home jersey. I've never seen footage of that fight, just the photo.

This unseen fight was not on this date, I believe.

Just dug out my 1990-91 Boxscore book and articles. The fight took place on this date, according to my records. I have a picture of Tocchet and Rooney from the same game article fighting. Tocchet has the black helmet on too, and it says the fights happened in the preseason opener. This looks definite to me.Reply

Thanks for the info. For some reason i always thought they went in the 89-90 PS.Reply

You've got definite records? Cool, then you are absolutely right about the date.

The only video footage of this game that ever saw the light of day was Crowder and Carkner, no other fights. I was trying to remember if Carkner was sporting the white jersey/black helmet like Berube was in that photo.

AWESOME. I've never seen footage of this before. Thanks for posting this little gem, Storm.

On first glance, it looks like Berube got a slight win. He landed a little better.

That uppercut Chief snuck in halfway through the fight was the best punch of the scrap. Berube appeared to be taunting Crowder in the penalty box about having a cut near his mouth.Reply

Chychrun got some rights in, Anderson also threw a few rights, but his punches didn't reach Chychrun.

Troy Crowder clear win Fun

This was a lengthy scrap with some good action. Crowder got off to a good start. He missed a punch, landed a couple of solid blows, and landed a decent punch. He landed an average blow and a solid right. Carkner missed his first couple of right hands. Troy missed a punch and landed a solid connect.

Crowder missed a few punches. He landed a solid blow and an average right hand. Terry started to get a little going offensively. He landed an average left, missed a punch, landed an average connect, and missed a blow. He missed a right hand and landed an average left.

Crowder began to lean heavily on the smaller man's shoulders. Carkner missed a right. Troy landed an average connect. Terry landed a partial connect, missed a punch, and landed an average left hand. Crowder stepped up his attack again. He landed a solid blow and an average shot. He missed a couple of punches and landed a decent right. Carkner missed a couple of lefts and Troy missed a final right hand.

I rate this as a clear win for Crowder. Troy jumped out to a good lead early in the fight. Carkner landed some moderately effective left hands in the second half of the contest. Crowder continued to land some effective blows as well. I think Troy got the clear edge by landing more shots and with better pop.

Troy Crowder is really tattooing Terry Carkner, going over and under with some rapid right hands. Carkner is hanging on and trying not to get popped directly in the face. He manages to grab Crowder and control his right arm, and that's where the clip ends.

It looked to me like a clear win for Crowder. He was in total control and landed a lot of good punches on Carkner, who was just hanging on.

Crowder started out best and got Carkner pretty good, but props to Carkner for getting back into things and giving Crowder a hell of a battle, landing when he switched to lefts. Still win Crowder in a good battle.

Craig Berube clear win Fun

This was a pretty intense scrum that got a bit ugly. Steve Rooney and Mike Ricci were going at it. Suddenly, a group of Flyers were on the scene. Laurie Boschman and Craig Berube looked like they wanted to go, but an official kept the two apart.

Rooney continued to agitate and the Chief hacked at his shoulder. Kasatanov stepped in and got into it with Berube. Craig landed a partial connect, missed a couple of blows, and landed a partial connect. Alexei had him in a headlock and landed a decent right.

Berube got his right hand free and landed an average punch, missed a shot, and landed a solid connect. Kasatanov missed a couple of rights. Berube missed a punch, landed a couple of solid connects, and landed an average blow.

Kasatanov clinched and head butted the Chief. Boschman grabbed Berube's jersey from behind and was tugging on the sweater. Larry Murphy was trying to pull him away from Craig. The refs stopped the bout after the two men clinched and yapped at each other a bit.

I rate this as a clear win for The Chief. He landed some effective right hands. Kasatanov was unable to land any blows with above-average pop. Berube got the better of him and brought some pain as well.

This fight happened during a scrum, where Rooney and Tocchet were showing and Berube tried to get at Rooney, but ended up with Kasatonov. Berube hammered away with rights, but Kasatonov didnĀ“t go down and head butted Berube. Berube then let up punching after it seems like the ref told him to and Berube nodded.

Impossible to review this fight as it happened during the scrum where Berube hammered Kasatonov and the cameras were not on Rooney and Tocchet at all.Reply
