Darcy Harris | Favourite Ranger fighter ever! Not too big and didn't look for it usually, but never backed down from anyone and almost always had really exciting fights. Had a great rookie 96-97 year, and stepped it up even more in 97-98 taking on all the top dogs and doing VERY well. Was arguably the champ that season(definitely top3). Best Ranger fighter I've ever seen, cause he was heavyweight tough, and loved to just trade with anyone, and usually came out on top. VERY entertaining fighter and a solid OHL player. Would have made NHL if not for his career ending AHL injury.
Mike Richards | Total heart and soul guy, wil do anything to win and that includes sticking up for his teammates when he has to, or attempting to spark the team with a fight on occasion too. Great all round player. Wasnt appreciated in Philly, and now look who has a ring and who doesnt!?
Adam Keefe | Scrappiest guy ever maybe. Small but would take on ANYONE. Has a bit of a bad rep off the ice, but I'm judging him on his play. I've never seen a guy with the work ethic of Keefe. Hustled EVERY shift, fought a tonne, and would fight anyone no matter how much bigger or tougher they were. Not a very good hockey player early on(just fought), but eventually developed into a solid two way player and just keeps improving. An entertaining fighter too, that will always swing for the fences.
David Clarkson | Turned into the best pest/fighter I've ever seen in Ranger land. Loved to yap and stir it up, but usually would back it up too. Not a great fighter(but a good one), but thanks to his style(stand back and dodge, then counter punch) he seems to be able to hang in with anyone, and is a great team guy that will defend his mates and will fight to spark the team. A pretty solid player too. Will be in the NHL one day IMO. What I like about him too is he seems like a really good guy. Always took the most time to talk to the kids when he was a Ranger, and just seems to love life. 30 goal season in the NHL, never would have guessed, but congrats Clarky, keep it up!
Boris Valabik | Toughest European import player EVER in the OHL so far, and was the undisputed champ in 2005-06. Played extrememly physical with everyone. Developed into one of the OHL's best defensive defencemen. Would have fought more if not for coach DeBoer reigning him in often since he was such a valuable D-man. Took out a lot of quality OHL fighters, and only lost 3 times his whole career to the best of my knowledge. Will be in the NHL in 3 or 4 years. Will have to step it up in the competition department, but with his size and toughness he will do just fine. Like's to throw bombs and improved a lot as a fighter since his rookie season. Good chin and improved balance should serve him well. Entertaining player and fighter that will be missed in Ranger land. One of our best fighters in recent memory.
Sean McMorrow | Had a good half year run as a Ranger and I loved watching him play for them, and I loved whenever he'd come in to town on an opposing team too. Knew his role and did it well. An old school fighters attitude, in that he's always looking for it, trying to intimidate, and fights a LOT. Very entertaining to watch, and has had some pretty good fights too. Too bad he doesn't have more skill, cause this is the type of guy the NHL needs more of. 86 fights in 48 games in 07-08, holy shit!!! Unfortunately sitting in prison now for selling trees!
Scott Stevens | Great two way D-man and maybe the best hitting D-man ever in the NHL. Played for the Rangers in JR too(bonus) and won the Memorial Cup. A solid fighter too, could go with anyone in his prime. SHOULD have won a Norris trophy or two...but oh well. He's got the cup rings, so who cares I guess.
Wendel Clark | Being a Leafs fan he's easily my favourite power forward ever in the NHL. Would take on anyone no matter the size, and usually win. Threw huge hits, and could score too(great wrist shot). Won't see too many guys come into the league like this any more unfortunately.
Ken Baumgartner | "The Bomber" was a great NHL pugilist, and was the Leafs enforcer during their glory years(at least what I've experienced as their glory years...I wasn't around in the 60's) of the early to mid 90's. A great technical lefty that could really throw'em.
Mike Amodeo | Good technical fighter and had a couple really entertaining seasons, especially 00-01 when he had 31 fights and had a lot of entertaining scraps and would go often just to get the team going. Hurt his shoulder fighting Janssen in the AHL, hope he's not done, cause I think he could play at the AHL level, but I don't see him playing anywhere this year so maybe he's hurt bad or given up on hockey.
Bob Crummer | An "unofficial" Kitchener Ranger, as he attended their camp first in 96-97, and narrowly missed making the team. He came in that year out of JR B with only one previous fight, and decided he'd try to make a name at camp as a tough guy. I have great memories of this camp. He fought 3 or 4 times at least. Beat Mark McMahon easy, then chased Craig Nelson all over the ice after Nelson high sticked him, cleary yelling "Nelson, c'mon, let's go", till finally Nelson oblidged and was hammered. Then the intra-squad game he fought returning heavyweight Jason Modopoulos 3 times! They split the first two, then the last fight right at the end of the game, they shed the buckets and skate to center, and shake hands before having a great fight with Crummer getting a slight edge. He didn't make the team, but played 3 years after that, and had some great fights vs the Rangers and was a great OHL scrapper.
Mike Mascioli | Most entertaining Ranger fighter in a number of years. Small guy that seems to be able to hang with almost anyone, and has good power as evidence by his 4 tko's in 07-08. Great team guy that holds the opposition accountable. Got a bad rap in K-town after that, mostly for just doing his job as he should.
Jason Hughes | One of the toughest Rangers ever in my day, and one of the best fighters in the OHL from 93-95. Was truely feared, and had some great fights with Doug Doull, Ian Kieller and many others. Only saw him lose once in the OHL, to Brad Brown, but Brown jumped him.
Bob Probert | Arguably the "All Time Champ" of the NHL. Was great with both hands, had a great chin, and would go with anyone any time. One of the best of the late 80's/early 90's. R.I.P. champ!
John Kordic | Threw hard, fast lefts, and was one of the best of his era. As a leaf fan he was probably the first guy besides Wendel that made an impression on me as a young guy...so far as scrappers go. Unfortunately never had a good go with Probert. Died far too young, R.I.P.
Cam Janssen | OHL legend, and a solid fighter that will take on anyone, even though he's most often the smaller man. Always has entertaining fights, and has an old school enforcers mentality.
Jake Gilmour | Great OHL scrapper who's career, and life ended too early. Good balance, and threw FAST punches with both hands, and had power too. Was great at switching hands as well. R.I.P.
Tie Domi | Domi was a great enforcer for most of his career, and always entertaining. Arguably the Leafs best all time enforcer, in terms of numbers and longevity. Took on heavyweights and almost always held his own. Another solid lefty on my list!
Doug Gilmour | One of the greatest leafs ever. Great hockey sense, gritty, hits, and played in both ends of the rink.
Todd Gill | Great middleweight, that always threw bombs and had entertaining tilts. Great team player too, and a solid #2 or #3 dman in his prime.
Thomas Harrison | Willing guy that has some entertaining fights. Great team guy. Unfortunately he seems to lose more then he wins, but always gives his all.
Nick Jones | A hot head that took some dumb penalties at times, but always liked his willingness, and he did well against much bigger heavyweights. Entertaining fighter, and one of the best of his day in the OHL.
James Ramsay | Solid lefty that would go toe to toe with much bigger guys, and was still considered an OHL heavyweight at 195lbs. Entertaining fighter.
Shawn Thornton | Good fighter at every level, and does well in most fights even though he's an average sized heavyweight.
Steve McLaren | OHL alumni and minor league legend was amongst the toughest of his era.
Steve MacIntyre | Huge heavyweight that is a good technical fighter and has power in both hands.
Wade Belak | One of the best Leaf enforcers of the last few years and one of the NHL's best in the late half of the previous decade. Good power and could play wing and D! Bonus points for dropping Brashear! R.I.P. Wade.
Darren Langdon | Don't get how people can critisize this guy!? Came up with his own style basically, and managed to be one of the NHL's best heavyweights of the late 90's all at 205lbs. Love watching his technical fights. Great endurance, and despite his style being called "boring" by some has had MANY exciting fights in his career.
Luch Nasato | A special player in that he's on my Love and Hate list. Always made games vs Barrie lots of fun after being chosen by the Colts from the Rangers in the expansion draft of 95. Had a great rivalry with the Rangers after that and Ranger fans loved to hate "Lucy" at the Aud. Usually avoided most fights, though I do remember Paul Doyle beating him in 95-96, and the fans raggin on Nasato as he headed to the box, chanting "Luch got smoked". Funny is Luch tells a much different story in an interview somewhere out on the net. In 96-97 Ranger fans showed their true feelings for Luch after the hard fought play-off series against Barrie went 7 games, and after the Rangers prevailed Luch saluted the crowd who had booed him all series and was cheered off the ice. Till next season...Ah good times...
Josh Gratton | Exciting toe to toe style, has had some great fights. OHL alumni!
Gabriel Landeskog | Great all round player with a great future ahead of him. Does everything well and is a solid leader too. 2nd Ranger in a row to win the Calder trophy! Former Rangers captain.
Derek Roy | Probably the most skilled Ranger player Ive seen the last 20 years. Was captain of their Memorial Cup team and has had a solid NHL career. Great vision and hockey sense, solid skater who plays both ends of the ice...can even hit when he wants.
Jeff Skinner | 50 goals as a Ranger and a Calder trophy winner. I will forgive you and J.Morin for fucking the Rangers in 2010-11, not your fault I guess, lol. The puck seems to follow this guy. Great hands and solid on his skates.
Fredrik Oduya | Toughest Swede ever, had an entertaining, toe to toe style. OHL alumni! Died in an auto accident in Europe in 2011, R.I.P.
Link Gaetz | Minor league legend and could have been one of the best in the NHL in the early 90's if not for his "demons". Great fighter, and a cool name to boot!
Brad Brown | Solid heavweight and a decent dman. Good chin, and good power and doesnt look for it too often. OHL alumni had a good NHL career.
Jon "Nasty" Mirasty | Minor league legend that loves to fight and goes toe to toe with giants despite being 5'10'', and almost always has an exciting fight.
Matt Carkner | Tough heavweight, and OHL alumni that played several years in the minors before getting an NHL shot. Too bad it was with the Sens, but glad to see he finally made it, and look forward to seeing more of him with the Islanders.
Marco Caprara | Great pound for pound fighter that took on all comers in the OHL and was only 5'8''! Decent player too.
Rocky Thompson | Exciting technical heavyweight. Lefty, but good with both hands. Wished he had played more NHL games. Cool name too! Rocky, Rocky, Rocky!!!
Brad Domonsky | One of the more entertaining fighters in his day in the OHL. Solid light heavy that throws bombs.
Dennis Bonvie | Another minor league legend and very tough for his size. Always had exciting tilts. OHL alumni that got his start in Kitchener!
Todd Harvey | Scrappy middleweight had many exciting tilts, especially early in his career.
Mike Keane | Super tough middleweight had an iron chin and threw big bombs when he scrapped.
John Erskine | One of the few London Knights I actually ever liked. Has had a pretty good nhl career. Solid heavyweight dman with good reach and a good chin, and throws with both hands.
Grant Marshall | Very tough fighter and a decent 3rd line banger who could score a bit too. Great chin, exciting fights, and very underrated. Should be listed as a light heavy on his profile here instead of a middleweight IMO.
Ryan VandenBussche | Very tough light heavy that threw bombs and almost always had an exciting fight. Would often fight out of his weight class and usually did fine.
Mike Eagles | Wow, wtf, only two people with this guy on their love list!?!? Scrappy middleweight who played JR in Kitchener and won the Memorial Cup with them in 82. Yeah he wore a visor in the NHL, but almost always at least tried to take his lid off before a fight(when the linesmen would allow it). Solid chin and a big swinger.
Dody Wood | Tough light heavyweight was an entertaining scrapper in his day.
Micheal Haley | Tough middleweight/light heavy has had many entertaining fights and can hang well with most heavyweights. OHL alumni as well!
