Shawn Thornton narrow win Fun
5
Shawn Thornton drops the gloves with Eric Godard, Thornton trying to spur some momentum towards his team. As they get a hold of each other, Thornton lands a right. They wrestle, then Godard stands back and misses a right. Thornton works on the inside of the bigger Godard and throws three rights, landing one to the head. There's a short pause where Thornton shakes his elbow pad off, then they both miss a right at the same time. Thornton misses a right and Godard lands a right afterwards. Godard misses a right then and starts to prod with the left as Thornton lands two rights. Godard misses two rights and changes hands while Thornton misses a right. Then Godard lands a left to the face but ducks afterwards as Thornton lands a right. Thornton wrestles Godard and who ends up losing his helmet after he stops ducking. Godard changes hands as they grapple and then throws three rights, landing two. Thornton throws two rights then, landing one to the face while Godard changes hands and throws two lefts, landing one. The linesmen step in afterwards though and they pull apart Thornton and Godard. Decent, lengthy tilt. Thornton with slightly more and better punches earns the nod.

This was a lengthy contest, but with not exactly riveting action. Thornton landed a light right. Godard missed a right. Shawn missed a blow and landed a solid shot. He missed a punch and landed two average blows. He missed two punches. Eric missed two punches and landed a partial connect. He missed a few jabs.

Thornton landed an average right and missed a couple of blows. Godard missed two punches and landed a decent left. Shawn missed two blows and a decent right. Eric missed a punch and landed a partial connect. He missed a blow, landed a body punch, and missed a shot. The refs stopped the contest.

I rate this as a narrow win for Thornton. He landed the more effective blows early in the fight. He also had a numerical edge.

No doubt Thornton won this one, he landed some hard, straight punches that were quite obvious, only giving him a narrow win because Godard connected with a few and didn't get completely fed, though he ate a solid portion.

Thornton feeds Goddard consistantly, and Goddard returned a couple, but couldn't find his range as consistantly. It looked as if Thornton was iceing up his hand in the box, while Goddard was counting his teeth. He must have caught one in the chicklets.

Right after the Eric Godard and Shawn Thornton fight, Maxime Talbot and Gregory Campbell shed the mitts off a draw and go. They squareoff with Talbot showing right and Campbell showing left. Talbot ducks his head as he moves in and grabs on with Campbell but Talbot puts his head up after that and gets his right hand going. Talbot throws six rights in a row and lands one. Campbell then misses a right and another right from Talbot misses too. Campbell gets rid of his elbow pad and throws three rights, landing one before Talbot counters with two missing rights. Then Campbell throws five rights and lands three and Talbot comes back with a missing right. Talbot then misses a right again after ducking as Campbell misses a right. There's a short pause, Campbell misses a right, and Talbot misses a right as well. There's another pause and Campbell moves in close. Talbot lands a right and Campbell switches hands but misses a left that throws him off balance. Talbot throws three rights at the downed Campbell and lands one. Then the linesmen come in and stop the fight. Draw in an okay scrap. Both were active, throwing plenty of punches though most of them missed.

This wasn't a bad scrap. Talbot and Campbell decided to go. Max landed a decent blow and missed a shot. He landed two average rights and missed a couple of blows. Greg missed several punches and landed a decent right. Talbot missed two blows. Campbell landed a body punch and an average blow.

Greg missed a punch and landed an average blow. He missed a punch, landed a partial connect, and landed a body shot. Max missed a punch and landed a partial connect. Campbell missed a wild blow. Talbot missed a punch and landed an average shot. Greg fell to the ice and the refs intercepted Max's further attempts.

I rate this as a draw. Talbot had the early edge. Campbell landed some effective blows in the middle of the bout. Max landed a final effective shot. I think the aggregate impact of the blows was roughly equal.

Arron Asham narrow win Fun
6
Arron Asham gets into his first tilt with the Pittsburgh Penguins and after bumping with Adam McQuaid. They stand back and take the gloves off, then square up. It lasts a while before they latch onto each other. McQuaid throws two rights and lands one and Asham fakes a right. McQuaid then lands a right as Asham misses a short right. McQuaid follows up with two rights, connecting with one before Asham counters with a landing right. Asham then misses two jersey jabs and McQuaid moves in closer and lands a right. Asham then misses a right and McQuaid misses a right after. They then pause after Asham misses a right. Asham throws two jersey jabs and lands one, then turns his head away as McQuaid moves in closer. McQuaid throws two rights and lands one that knocks off Asham's helmet but then Asham connects on a right. McQuaid then misses a right and Asham lands two right afterwards, knocking off McQuaid's helmet and sending him off balance. They pause, then McQuaid misses a right before Asham misses a right. McQuaid misses a right, then Asham lands a right and they pause after. Asham lands a jersey jab and McQuaid misses a right. Asham then throws three rights, landing one as MCquaid goes down but gets right back up. McQuaid misses a right, then Asham misses a right afterwards and they pause after McQuaid misses a right. The referees then come in and halt the scrap. A fairly entertaining fight with Asham landing better for the win.

It looked like both landed 2 good shots, and each some grazers...but one of Ashams punches droped McQuaid to a knee. Not sure if he lost his balance, and he punch just pushed him over though. Narrow win for Asham in a good solid fight. I wouldn't argue with a draw though.

Asham used timing & his experience to his advantage against the bigger but less experienced mcquaid. Macquaid did pretty well against a top-fighter while he also landed one thundering punch. Asham for the first 75% of the fight took timing-punches that landed and that's where he out-did macquaid in the number of connected punches by about 3. The last 25% of the fight saw both guys flailing away and that is counted as even. Asham wins the overall evaluation by a narrow margin.Reply

I watched the fight and was going to review it until I saw 9 out of 11 people thought Asham won. I agree that he landed the best shot of the fight, but he landed fewer shots, and I see it as a draw from my perspective. I thought McQuaid controlled the fight early, Asham then landed a good bomb, but McQuaid wasn't phased. Are there that many Pittsburgh fans on here that think this was a win? I'd call it a draw, but I dont wanna be ridiculed if over 85% are giving it to Asham. Maybe I'm missing something?Reply

I didn't see Asham drop anyone. I saw him do a good job of pulling McQuaid in for a big uppercut that just missed, and then saw Adam bail from a big overhand right follow up that certainly wasn't a knockdown, although it probably would have been had it landed. Neither that uppercut, nor the followup landed. Perhaps you should watch it again?Reply

Funny how eager you are to give a Bruin a narrow win, but when it's against your team you're hesitant. How Ironic.

Not at all. I think the punch stats revealed exactly what my point was. Adam landed 7 punches, Asham landed 6. I agree that Asham landed the best one, and that would even up the points in my opinion. I'm not complaining at all. I don't think a narrow win either way is atrocious. However, I think that the proper call would be a draw.
I didn't suggest that anyone's review be pulled. I simply disagreed with the majority opinion.
Perhaps you should take a look at all of your reviews on Boston fights. You don't just go against popular sentiment once in a while. You do it consistantly against the Bruins.

You've reviewed more than twice as many Bruin fights than any other team. You gave Kassian a win, over Thornton in a clear draw.
You gave Ryan White a win over McQuaid when 16 people, including Habsfan18, a dihard Montreal fan, gave it to Adam. McQuaid outlanded him 5-2.
You gave Hendricks a win over McQuaid when each man only landed 1 punch.
You called McQuaid Konopka a draw when 18 out of 20 reviewers gave it to McQuaid. Adam outlanded him 7-6 and landed the only big punch of the fight.

It's clear to see who is biased and who is not.
