Adam McQuaid narrow win Fun
6
The Canadiens are a team that needed some muscle and Ryan White appears to fit the bill. McQuaid has been impressive in his fights at this early stage in his career. This looked to be a good bout. The Bruins and the Canadiens continue to have a heated rivalry after all these years.

White and McQuaid jawed at each other for a while and Ryan was quick on the draw and landed a decent right hand, beating Adam to the punch. White's next few blows were grazing and McQuaid was able to respond quickly with some punches of his own.

McQuaid's first shot was a good right hand. He missed with a follow up blow and had a partially connecting third punch. The two wrestled for a bit and Adam responded with a decent right. White responded with a moderately hard right to the head. Adam's jersey went over his eyes for a second, but he escaped danger and appeared to slip White's follow up blows.

McQuaid threw a series of rights at the end of the bout. His punches here lacked accuracy and he missed most of the blows, although it looked like he landed a few partial connects. White missed with one last attempt and the refs stepped in to stop the bout.

I give McQuaid the narrow victory in this bout. Both men were inaccurate with their shots at times, but Adam seemed to have greater accuracy and landed more punches than White. Both men appeared to land with equal pop. No one got in any real hard blows. It was a good bout and White showed some encouraging signs as an upcoming fighter. He could have easily earned a draw if he was a little more accurate with his shots.

Adam McQuaid narrow win Fun

Ryan White goes for the puck as it is covered by Tim Thomas and that gets the attention of Adam McQuaid. McQuaid faces White and after a few seconds, they drop the gloves and grab each other. White misses two rights and then turns away as McQuaid misses a right while losing his helmet. White misses another right and then McQuaid misses a right as his helmet falls to the ice. White misses a right and McQuaid knocks off White's helmet when landing a right and White immediately gets in tight. They wrestle for a little and White changes hands. They then open up with McQuaid landing a right as White misses a left. McQuaid's arm gets caught up in his jersey and he misses a right as White lands a left. White lands another left as McQuaid ducks and then White misses a left. McQuaid's jersey then comes off as he raises his head and White puts his head down as McQuaid lands three rights. White gets back in tight but McQuaid ducks away and keeps his right free, missing five rights though while White turns away. Then White misses a right which causes him to lose his hold of McQuaid. White grabs back on, getting McQuaid in a headlock. McQuaid misses a right and then the linesmen come in and break it up. Win to McQuaid for landing more punches in this spirited tilt. Although both guys were swinging, they were both pretty inaccurate and neither landed anything too well.

Tim Thomas covers the puck as Ryan White is standing right there looking for a rebound. Adam McQuaid comes over and they have words before they decide to drop the gloves. White quickly throws two rights connecting on one but McQuaid responds with an uppercut before losing his helmet and they both miss rights. White misses an overhead right but McQuaid connects on an overhead right knocking White's helmet off. They wrestle for a while until McQuaid lands a right and White lands a right to McQuaid's back and then misses a right. White misses another right as McQuaid's jersey comes off but it doesn't affect McQuaid as he connects with a right before missing a right. McQuaid lands an uppercut, connects with a right to White's back and then misses an uppercut. White misses with a right as they wrestle until McQuaid lands a weak right to White's back before the linesman seperate them. Narrow win to McQuaid for landing the better punches in this excellent fight.

Happened after Thomas froze the puck. White and McQuaid stared at each other and dropped their gloves. Furious fight with a lot of punches thrown, but not a lot landing, but I got to give McQuaid the narrow win for landing two huge uppercuts. Other than that it was a pretty even fight.

Montreal came out hitting in the first, so McQuaid goes looking for White, who proptly accepts the challenge in front of the Boston net. Both guys land some solid blows, but McQuaid looked to have a slight edge in the quality shots department.

Starts when McQuaid started backing up White in front of the net after the whistle, so White felt a little threatened by that ... so White opens fire and awayyyy we go. Both guys swinging a bit wildly, but a few solid punches plus glancing-blows by both either on the head or face. McQuiad landed 2 or 3 more punches than White, so narrow win for McQuaid.

McQuaid and White are mostly tied up by their jerseys, not sure what happened with the tiedown, McQuaid lands a couple more here and looked to be taking control when the linesmen jumped in a little too early as they were starting to get some more room to throw some better shots, White doing a little more of the holding and McQuaid doing a little more of the connecting gives McQuaid the narrow win

White got a bit too close to Tim Thomas for McQuaid's liking and they had words and ended up behind the net when they dropped the gloves.

Both guys threw some punches in the opening exchange and McQuaid landed more for me and then White starts a mission to get McQuaid's jersey over his head which he does and White starts to throw some too.

All in all, a good even scrap but I'm going to give mcQuaid the narrow win due to him landing more punches and the punches he landed being more powerful than White.

Funny Mike how even HABS fans said that there is no way white won, and Habsfan18 gave it to McQuaid. He outlanded White 4 to 2, and his shots were hammers.
You gave the fight to a guy that landed half as many punches as he ate. It's clear to see who is right and who is wrong Mike.

Alexei Emelin has the puck in the corner and dumps it with about a second remaining in the second period. Brad Marchand comes in and instead of just giving him a big push, he lowers his body to the level of Emelin's knees and clips him. That was a useless and stupid move by Marchand and he could have injured Emelin if he landed badly. He just threw his body in Emelin's knees, that was not a hipcheck, it was a dirty clip.

He did the exact same time he did a couple of weeks ago and he got suspended 5 games. I expect discipline on him. However, on his hit on Salo, he did lower his body more importantly and Salo got injured so I would expect maybe 1-2 games on suspension.

Marchand goes low in an attempt to submarine another player just like he did against Vancouver. This time the hit isn't as huge or damaging, but is still called clipping by the officials and is still a low hit cheap shot. Dirty

I don't believe this was dirty. Although Marchand did go low, it wasn't so low as to hit the knee directly. Also, it appeared as if Yemelin may have extended himself in anticipation of the hit, which may have made the contact area be lower than it would normally have been. Dirty

This one seemed worse than the Salo one, that was more of a hipcheck gone wrong, this one just seemed like marchand shooting like a missile for yemelins knees, also it was at the end of the period. It wasn't that effective though, it kind of looked like Yemelin tried selling it, although apparently he did get hurt. Dirty

Marchand uses a hip check that only made contact with either the hip or thigh. This still looks like legal check, but the ref calls a penalty. Anyway, the important thing is that the intention of Marchand was morally-good but his aim was a little off ... you cannot condemn Marchand on this play just because his aim was a little-off ... it's not like the check was aimed at the head here, instead, it was aimed at the lower-half of the body. ///////// Anyway, a clipping penalty is in essence, a sort of tripping penalty. So a 2-minute penalty is just a minor penalty while anybody who trys to call this a cheap shot would be wrong and unjustified. Dirty

Emelin gets rid of the puck and Marchand goes low on a standing still Yemelin as the horn sounds to end of the period. There was absolutely no need to make the hit, plus it was done awkwardly and dangerous when he could have made a normal hit. Not terrible, but definitely a little cheap. Dirty

People have to learn what is a hipcheck and what is clipping. A hipcheck is when the two players go the same way and then the defending player lowers his body a bit to make the other player pass over them and fall on the ice. A clip is when a player throws his body on the other player. Marchand never waited for the contact, he just skated to Emelin and went down. That is a clipping penalty and it was a dirty play.

Too bad he doesn't get suspended and it just proves how wrong the health & safety system is because he did a similar hit less than a month ago and got suspended 3 games, and now he does it again and no further discipline is needed? It's a bit stupid...

The nhl decided to establish the clipping penalty for those players going down on all fours to submarine an opposing player by making contact with the legs ... thus, clipping, in essence, is equated to a tripping penalty. However, Marchand did use a hip-check here but it's just that his aim was a little off as his body made contact with the legs instead of the torso of Yemelin. You cannot condemn a player because his aim wasn't perfect. Let's face it, this incident has nothing to do with the head of a player , instead, we're only talking about the lower-half of a player's body. Thus, since clipping is sort of like a tripping-call, which is only a 2-minute minor penalty ... which means you cannot condemn someone on a 2 minute minor penalty. ///////////////// By the way, you claim that both players have to be going the same way in the definition of a hip-check but instead, an opposing player can be stationary on the spot and still be hit by a legal hip-check.

It was a poorly executed hip check. The point of contact was the hip or upper thigh (hard to tell) but it was not a submarine hit like the one on Sedin or Salo. I'm usually against Marchand when it comes to his dirty play, but this isn't a dirty hit, and he wont get suspended-even with his history. Maybe a fine, but I don't even think it's fine worthy. Look at the point of contact.Reply

MSG announcer (NY Rangers) Al Trautwig is now saying that the hip-check only made contact with the hip of Yemelin. Thus, there shouldn't have even been a penalty called ... this was a legal hip check after-all.

I agree with you ... there are too many crybabys out there condemning players for every little contact that's made in a contact-sport like hockey. If all those crybabys don't like seeing contact, then they should instead, be watching a girl's show like the ice-capades.
