Aaron Volpatti clear win Fun

Aaron Volpatti hits Kevan Miller against the boards and they agree to go afterwards. They squareoff and undo their helmets since Miller has a visor. Right as they grab on, they both knock their helmets off. They jostle slightly and then Miller misses a right, locked out nicely by Volpatti. Volpatti throws four rights and lands one, then misses a right while Miller misses a right. Miller leans away as Volpatti misses a right and then they lock up, grappling temporarily. Both of them switch hands and then open up. Miller throws four lefts and lands one while Volpatti throws six lefts, landing three before getting turned around as Miller leans away again. Miller misses a left and gets bent over as Volpatti straightens himself. Miller moves in tight and then wrestles Volpatti against the boards before taking him to the ice. Both guys were throwing here but it was Volpatti who did almost all of landing in this scrap. Decent tilt and a clear win for Volpatti here.

Volpatti caught Miller with four flush lefts in the middle part of the scrap. I have no idea how Miller stayed on his feet.

Volpatti landed more punches in that exchange but I don't see evidence for a clear win as apart form those two lefts Volpatti landed they landed about equal.

These guys square off and give the stupid visor rule a nice fuck you flipping eachothers lids off before getting down to it. They start out pretty even trading rights but then Volpatti times a beautiful switch and smashes Miller with some nice lefts, the best punches of the fight. Miller gets him contained throws a couple more, wrestles Volpatti to the boards and takes him down but Volpatti got the better of this one with the beautiful series of lefts in the middle which were the cleanest, hardest and best punches of the fight. Win Volpatti.

Joel Rechlicz narrow win Fun
10
This was a tremendous action fight. There was thrilling sustained action throughout the fight. Lucic has been criticized in some circles for not eagerly taking on enough tough enforcers. He willingly took up the challenge against the Wrecker. Rechlicz is a fighter plain and simple. He has scored three goals and has six assists in 325 career games. He is an enforcer and Milan had no problem throwing down with him.

Lucic went with mostly rights and Rechlicz went with lefts. It was all out war. Milan landed a solid blow and a decent punch. He missed a punch. Joel landed a solid connect and two average blows. He landed a decent punch and missed a couple of shots.

Lucic landed a solid blow and an average shot. He missed several attempts. Rechlicz missed several lefts and landed an average punch. Milan landed a body blow, missed a punch, and landed a couple of decent connects. He missed a punch, landed a solid blow, and landed two pretty good shots. He landed a good punch with authority.

Rechlicz was matching punch-for-punch. He missed a blow and landed a solid connect. He landed an average punch, missed a shot, and landed a solid connect. Lucic missed a punch and landed a solid right. Joel found the desired range and landed five consecutive lefts with pretty good pop. He landed a couple of solid blows.

Lucic missed a couple of punches, landed two solid connects, and landed two pretty good shots. Both men got a number of power punches in. Neither guy conceded anything. It was a battle of wills.

Milan landed a solid connect and missed a couple of punches. The Wrecker landed two solid blows, missed a punch, and landed a solid punch. He landed an average punch. Lucic landed a body punch and missed a couple of blows. He landed two solid punches and an average blow. He missed a punch. Rechlicz finshed in a strong fashion. He landed a good shot and a pretty good follow up blow. He missed a couple of punches. The refs stopped the bout as both men were getting weary.

This was a great fight. I rate it as a narrow win for Rechlicz. Both men landed a number of effective shots. I think Joel landed with a bit better pop, especially down the stretch. It was a very close and competitive contest. However, I think Rechlicz pulled it out with an edge in effective punching down the stretch.

I come away from this fight very impressed with Lucic. He asked no quarter and willingly slugged it out with a very tough customer in Rechlicz. Milan has been unfairly villified as a "spot-picker." It is true that he doesn't always square off with big heavyweights. However, he has faced enough of them over the years to thwart the invalid claims of his harshest critics.

Lucic is a very good heavyweight fighter who can bang. He proved he can take a shot in this fight against the Wrecker. A lesser man would have crumbled from taking all those flush left hands. Milan may have just lost this incredible war, but he earned the respect of the NHL fight fan community. It took some serious stones to take on Rechlicz and slug it out on Joel's terms.

I'm sure this great fight is not going to satisfy all of the Lucic-haters. He will likely go with a few middleweights or light heavies this year. After all, he is usually on the ice against skill players. However, Milan proved that when challenged by a pure enforcer, he is more than able to hold his own on most occasions. I'm sure Rechlicz will be feeling the effects of this fight for awhile. Milan got a lot of licks in and undoubtedly earned the respect of the Wrecker. In fact, Lucic has consistently been rated as one of the toughest fighters by those who know best, fellow NHL players.

These two light 'er up in what is far and away the best fight of the season thus far in an absolute war that could very easily stand up as the fight of the year. They just unload bombs on one another, Lucic launching rights, Wrecker responding with lefts, shot for shot and toe to toe. Lucic lands better early on but Rechlicz is amazingly unfazed by the punches and as Milan's pace begins to slow Wrecker begins to get the better of it but Lucic is still answering the whole way and they just tee off on one another, Lucic lands a couple more clean ones then Recker begins to get his shots through cleaner again and they just keep slugging at one another until they are both exhausted and finish the fight standing with neither guy seemingly any the worse for wear following an epic exchange with some major punches given and taken by both. I counted 33 punches a piece with at least 25 or so getting through, and at least a dozen each landing totally fucking clean and on the button. I just tip my hat to both guys for an amazing, amazing fight.

Lucic again solidifies that he's a legit heavyweight who can bang with anyone who fights for a living when he wants to and he gives Wrecker all he could ask for here and earns a hard fought draw on my card. Rechlicz is just a complete and total warrior who belongs in the NHL as an enforcer. Lucic ran his teammate and Wrecker came over to address it and take Looch to task and the boys put on one hell of a show. The retarded fucking Edwards may have finally topped all of Sanderson's worst calls with perhaps the most homeristic call in hocky fight history. "The Wrecker is recking his face by just assulting Lucic's fist with his nose" he says as Rechlicz is smashing Lucic with flush left hands right before his eyes. If I had to pick a winner here I would give Rechlicz the decision by the slimest of margins as he took Milan's very best early on and seemed to keep getting stronger as the fight wore on, pushing the pace and landing a little bit better to the finish but Lucic didn't go away, he stood in the pocket and continued to answer and land punches of his own to the final bell with neither guy hurt, compromised or in any real trouble at the end. I think to try and call a winner here is really the wrong call, this fight is the epitomy of why there is a third option and was as straight up a draw as you'll ever see. I think both guys were cut a little bit I don't think there was really anything decisive enough in either man's favor to call this fight anything other than a straight up draw and our second blessing from the hockey gods in as many nights. Huge props to both guys. Win Fight Fans in a Phenomanal Straight Up Draw.

Joel Rechlicz narrow win Fun
10
Milan Lucic hits Dane Byers after he's shouldered by Jarome Iginla. Joel Rechlicz is there and takes issue with Lucic, dropping the gloves and grabbing him. Lucic is hesitant but then chooses to fight and drops the gloves too. They grapple and Rechlicz ducks his head as Lucic throws three rights, landing two. Then Rechlicz gets his head up and throws six lefts, landing four while Lucic throws six rights, landing only two. Rechlicz then wraps his arm around Lucic's head and pauses as Lucic misses a right. They resume, Lucic throwing six rights and connecting on one and Rechlicz throwing six lefts and connecting on three. Rechlicz then pauses again as Lucic lands two rights but then Rechlicz throws three lefts and lands two as Lucic throws three rights and lands two. They each pause and Rechlicz grabs on Lucic with the left but then Rechlicz throws eight lefts and connects on five while Lucic throws eight rights and connects on three, knocking off Rechlicz's helmet too. They pause and then Lucic misses a right as Rechlicz misses a left, but then Lucic ducks and lands a right while Rechlicz lands a left. Rechlicz lands a left and then throws nine lefts, landing five while Lucic throws eight rights and lands four. Then Lucic pauses and Rechlicz lands a left just before the linesmen step in and put a stop to the fight. Absolute slugfest and an extremely great fight. They both stood toe-to-toe and just whaled away with punches, Lucic rights and Rechlicz lefts. Rechlicz had a bloodied lip after the fight but I thought he got the better of this tilt. Lucic landed many punches and got a few bombs in but Rechlicz was slightly more steady with his punching, landing more and better overall. Credit to both for unloading on each other and taking a ton of punches in this scrap.

Milan Lucic VS Joel Rechlicz ..... September 23rd , 2013

This was a dandy of the fight, almost through the PRE-SEASON, and we already have a fight that many of us consider will be a fight of the year for sure.

A player like Milan Lucic would be an asset to any team. He is one of the lone Power Forwards left in this hockey game today, he can score some big goals, play top line minutes and dish out some huge hits, and fight the toughest guys in the league and hang in there, most of the time coming out with a win. This is a guy that every team would really enjoy having, and the Boston Bruins have a true gem in Lucic.

Joel Rechlicz has been around for quite a few years now, being called up into the NHL from time to time and seeing some action there. He has always danced with some of the toughest guys around and never shied away from a fight. It's his role and he knows it and he does it well. He is trying to make a good impression this pre-season on the Washington Capitals, hoping that maybe he can take a roll on the team as their enforcer during the regular season.

By the way if you want to watch a good feed of this fight, please do not watch the NESN version unless you are a Boston fan yourself. It really destroys the whole fight due to the homerism of Jack Edwards. Honestly, it's so bad I know Boston fans who were really disapointed and ashamed of him.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The play is near the neutral zone along the boards and a few hits are dished out and things begin to get a little rough when Rechlicz meets up with Lucic. An invitation is sent and with no hesitation it is accepted. These two monsters drop their gloves and the fans are already going nuts in Boston.

The referee appears to try and put a stop to the fight before it even begins but thank God that this doesn't happen because we are all in for a treat.

They tie up along the boards and begin to wrestle a bit until Lucic begins to fire some right hands, landing a couple to the chin of Rechlicz. Rechlicz answers right back with some big over the top left hands which seems to shock Lucic. After Rechlicz throws about 4 big lefts Lucic answers right back with roughly 10 hard right hands, landing several to the body of Rechlicz but coming up short on quite a few as well, but Lucic lands two very nice right hands flush to the face of Rechlicz as well from that flurry of punches. Rechlicz looks like he is in alot of trouble at this point but somehow remains standing and manages to get his left arm swinging again rapidly. Rechlicz fires 4 left hands at Lucic as Lucic comes up short with a few of his own as they go toe to toe. They begin exchanging another flurry of punches each with Lucic coming up short again, landing some, and attempting to get off his elbow pad all while Rechlicz is firing bombs towards the face of Lucic. Both men appear to be very tired and Rechlicz lands an absolute bomb to the face of Lucic at this point. Incredibly, Lucic is still standing and even begins to fire back some more punches as well. Lucic fires 3 right hands that do not land as Rechlicz lands another pair of punches to the head of Lucic but misses with another. Both men look extremely exhausted but continue firing anyway. Another exchange of punches were thrown possibly 3-4 each with Lucic landing a nice uppercut on Rechlicz and Rechlicz landing another over the top left at Lucic. They exchange 3 more punches each and finally the refs come in and stop this bout as both of these warriors look extremely exhausted.

What an incredible fight, a real treat for this pre-season.

Lucic landed a pair of beauties early but Rechlicz came late and landed some real bombs and appeared to make better connection.

I'm going to have to give this decision to Rechlicz.

Final Decision : Very narrow win for Joel Rechlicz.

RATED 9!

It was good to see the Caps give Rechlicz a chance in pre season. It was a shame that he didn't get to stay up as he performed well and from what I have seen from him in the minors he would be a good asset to the Caps as an enforcer.

The Fight.

Lucic and Rechlicz have the gloves off and are wrapped up. Lucic tries to get his arm free and he throws three weak punches which miss. Rechlicz connects on two of the four punches he throws before they both start throwing simultaneous punches. They both overthrow their first punch missing it and same with the second punch also. Lucic then throws a punch over the top which misses before he throws an uppercut which connects - at the same time as this Rechlicz narrowly misses a left. They then each simultaneously throw another punch but both their forearms collide in mid punch. They then throw another punch. Lucic's connects to the chest section of Rechlicz while Rechlicz misses. The next punch Lucic goes for a body shot while Rechlicz lands one on Lucic's jaw. The next punch they both miss again. Lucic then throws three punches in quick succession over the top all of which connect. They then both simultaneously land a punch - Lucic an uppercut, Rechlicz a straight left. They both then miss a punch again before Lucic then misses an overhand right before connecting on an uppercut. The next punch they both clash elbows mid punch before Rechlicz lands a solid shot the the back of Lucic's head. Lucic then connects on another uppercut while Rechlicz misses with a left. Lucic again lands an uppercut while Rechlicz narrowly connects on a straight left. They then both miss the next four punches each and Lucic knocks Rechlicz's helmet off with his arm as he pulls it back from missing to throw another punch. They then both miss again and Lucic accidentally catches Rechlicz with his elbow after missing the punch. They then both miss again. Rechlicz gets Lucic's head down and lands a left on the top of his helmet. They again simultaneously land a punch - Lucic a right to the body, Rechlicz a left to the face of Lucic. The next four punches their arms connect mid punch before Rechlicz throws a right and misses and Lucic counters with an uppercut which connects. Again they both throw Rechlicz misses the left and Lucic connects with a right to the forehead of Rechlicz. The next two punches the crash arms mid punch until Rechlicz lands a light punch to the top of Lucic's helmet. They look at each other and decide to separate just as the linesmen decided they had, had enough.

In my opinion this is so far the best fight of the season and I rate it as a draw. This was a very hard fight to call as it could very well have gone either way. They both landed extremely well and I was surprised neither one got KO'd taking those big bombs.

This was a great showing by both. And I hope we see a rematch some day! (If the Caps ever call up Rechlicz).

This was the best fight I recall seeing in years, absolute slobberknocker!

Almost ruined by the ridiculously biased Bruins announcer, for a moment there I thought I was listening to Derek Sanderson!

Both guys going toe to toe right from the start...Looch gets in 2 or 3 good clean shots, at which point the announcer starts going on and on about how Wrecker is a punching bag and is 'assaulting Lucic's fists with his nose'....all the while, Rechlicz is coming back and landing the best punches by this point.

Both guys land several good clean shots, and both guys stand up to what the other has to offer. Looch lands the best early, Rechlicz comes back strong. Absolute beauty of a fight.

These 2 guys just stand toe to toe after jockeying for position, and they just throw hammers at one another. It looked like Lucic was landing better, as he had his helmet on, while Rechlicz had his knocked off.

Edge Lucic early, he was definitely lading better, and Rechlicz lost a hold of Lucic's right which Lucic was able to capitalize on. As the words "Rechlicz being Reckless.." came out of his mouth, Lucic got hammered from that point on and landed maybe 3 or 4 punches. Rechlicz was able to beat Lucic to every punch from that point on. Lucic look gassed as shit and couldn't punch his way out of a wet paper bag by that point.

Going to give this one to lucic. Great toe to toe battle but as I watched the video multiple times it looks to me like lucic is throwing from the laces and wrecker is throwing soft punches from the shoulder trying to get the quick ones in. wrecker does land some left bombs but lucic lands the more solid and effective punches. Great h/w bout by two warriors.

Milan answers the bell when Joel takes exception to a hit on his teammate. They start chucking but nothing really connects solid. Looch gets his right loose and starts taking control landing some blows but Rechlisz responds. The back and forth continues as Joel's helmet comes off and finally the refs come in as the two tire. Milan looks gassed but I give him the narrow win because his punches landed better IMO. Rechlisz' punches mostly hit/grazed the side of the helmet whereas Lucic had a couple land flush on the face. Great tilt which proves Looch can hang with the toughest AHL dudes when he wants to.

25 year-old veteren Milan Lucic drops the gloves against designated-fighter Joel Rechlicz who looks to rebound back to the NHL after his two stints with the Islanders years ago and 3 games played with the Caps during the 2011-12 season. The fight is toe-to-toe and extended for a long time. Many solid facial-punches & bombs by both guys characterize and popularize this fight. Seems like each guy accumulated nearly 18 to 20 facialpunches mixed in with quite a few missed swings from beginning to end. About midway through the fight, one of Lucic's long traveled facialpunches seemed to cause Rechlicz to "see stars" but Rechlicz somehow overcomes it because he continues firing away with swings as both guys tagged each other until the refs break them up. Both guys are winners here, so nobody lost the fight. I'm not sure why some other reviewers picked a sole winner here. Even if one guy accumulated 1 or 2 facialpunches (in total) more than the other guy, it still shouldn't matter because the punch-count was astronomical and this would apply to any other fight like this. Thus, draw in an epic battle.

AMAZING FIGHT!!! Finally Lucic fights a HW, his first true HW since 2010 (Orr). Lucic lands some good rights, about 2 or 3. As the fight goes on, Rechlicz is the stronger and lands a few good lefts and pretty much outlasts Looch.

They get ahold of each other along the boards with Lucic throwing the first few punches not really connecting , Rechiliz answers with a couple that do connect. So Lucic gets serious and starts throwing bombs ! cutting Rechiliz, Rechiliz is answering for the most part but his punches are mostly weak and just glancing.
Lucic throws some decent shots to the jaw and nose ! and even an uppercut.
Rechiliz finished strong but not enough for a win.

This might be the fight of the year as Lucic uses his right and rechlicz answers back using his left, an all out fight here with both guys swinging until the very end and gasping for air, gotta give the edge to Joel here as I thought he got stronger as the fight went on and it didn't seem like he was phased by the punches early on, could agree with a draw as well.

Great fight develops in the middle of the ice...In the beginning they jockey for position, each guy trying to neutralize the other...Lots of punches exchanged, with Lucic getting a couple of big rights in the middle of the fight and Rechlicz landing a heavy left toward the end...Very close fight to call but based on the damage to Rechlicz's face I have to give this one narrowly to Lucic...Both guys looked exhausted after that scrap.

I agree heartily. Lucic is tough and can hang with anyone in the NHL. As someone else put it, he's not a straight-up enforcer, he's a valuable power forward; he's not gonna drop the gloves every game and always against a heavyweight.

But when he DOES fight a heavy, Lucic usually does very well.

Fair enough, but you have to admit Lucic not fighting Laraque helped the B's a lot in that series as the Habs always had Laraque out there trying to fight Lucic and ultimately having Laraque out against the B's top line really ruined the HAbs chances of progressing in the Playoffs.

Great fight.....

This is why Lucic is probable the MVP out of all the tougher guys in the league.. He's one of the best power forwards in the NHL, he hit's, he scores and he's heavyweight tough.

Rechlicz is a very good fighter & top enforcer with a good minor league pedigree & Lucic went toe to toe with him.

Spot picking? Anybody who calls that "picking his spot" should be beat with a phone book along with Jack Edwards. "A total mismatch of skill?" Buddy, do you know your hockey? Up an coming tough guys are the easiest to know. You see their fights and it shows in their numbers... Rechlicz has 9pts in 10 years of hockey.. He's 6'4, 220, and on top of it all, he started the fight. Everyone was so surprised when he fed Mike Rupp his entire lunch with one left back in 2010.. Go watch his fights, they always rate 6-10, because he throws bombs, can take a punch and he goes the distance. He sells tickets, period. Recher... not a great hockey player, but this is a fight forum, not a skills chat...he can stand in there and chuck em with damn near anyone. I bet we see him up again this year..Reply

I'm not saying Lucic has a pristine, flawless record. Sure, he's ducked a few guys, but as mentioned, he's primarily a power forward, not a pure enforcer.

But overall, Lucic has fared very well with a good number of heavyweights. He may not win 'em all, but he wins a lot and can hang with anybody. Lucic has all of my respect (and I'm a Sabres fan!).

I like Lucic, but you need to be completely oblivious to reality to see this as a one-sided win for Milan. The Wrecker landed his share of big shots and it was a fiercely competitive contest.

Edwards is about as bad of a homer as anyone I have ever listened to. This was a disgraceful and embarrasing call. He is the "Baghdad Bob" of hockey analysts. This was the call of a propagandist. Fred Cusick must be rolling around in his grave after this ludicrous display of homerism.

He's a big reason why I dislike the Bruins. He's the biggest homer on the planet and people actually listen to his opinion like it's actually Valid. A Bruin could get knocked out and he would still claim its a win for the Bruin.

Or he'd attempt to call the winner a goon, and make every excuse he can think of while choking back the tears.

See: Scott vs. Thornton.

Hi pal, don't let asshole-announcers influence you in liking or disliking a team, just ignore their stupid inaccurate remarks. The only people who are influenced by their careless remarks are naive people & the kids. The Sabres had the same situation for a hundred years with their own motor-mouth announcer but that didn't cause anyone to dislike the Sabres.

Rick Jeanneret was sometimes a homer, but he would NEVER proclaim the Sabre a winner when he clearly lost a fight. I've heard him say stuff like "THEY hit the deck!" when it was clear it was the SABRE hitting the deck (best example of this is Ray-Laraque in 1999). That is nothing compared to what Jack Edwards does.

Also, Jeanneret NEVER makes false excuses for why a Sabre lost a fight. Jeanneret NEVER denigrates the other fighter by calling him a "goon". When the opponent loses a fight, Jeanneret NEVER disrespects or makes fun of them. Jeanneret is ALWAYS 100% in favor of fighting in his calls. He loves the fights and adds a lot of excitement with his calls.

A small bit of Jeanneret's homerism does not make him any less of a great announcer and one of fighting's biggest proponents.

Jack Edwards is unprofessional, disrespectful, and a buffoon. Rick Jennearet is none of those things.

But I do agree with you, Mich, to not let some asshole announcer influence your liking or disliking of a whole team. Only morons or little kids who don't know any better actually believe the crap that spews out of that butthole on Edwards' face.

chris, you're correct when you say that Jeanneret would never proclaim that a Sabre won a fight when he clearly lost, HOWEVER, you're forgetting about the inaccuracies claimed by Jeanneret DURING THE COURSE of a fight ... or him keeping quiet sometimes by not accrediting a Sabre's opponent (with a connected-punch, let's say). Many times, I've heard him yelling out "this & that" either aimed at a Sabre and/or the Sabre's opponent but those "this & thats" were clearly inaccurate statements. This ultimately undermined the integrity of those fights which clearly added up to favortism towards the Sabre who was doing the fighting. For instance, the above is illustrated for the Malkoc-Ray fight of April 03, 1998.

I bet we see him up again this year..
The spot picking claim comes from the fact that Lucic is probably a top 5 HW and he his fight card the last 2 years has been fucking horrible. Gaustad, Kaleta, Prust, Aulie, Gleason, Sestito, Carkner, Komisarek. Pretty horrible for a "HW". I know, I know, he can score so he's allowed to spot pick. That's the unfortunate pussification thinking that the New NHL has made fans into. Sad.

Obviously he wins most of them. Fighting Komisarek, Gaustad, Kaleta, Matt Bradly, David Clarkson, Jarkko Ruutu, Keith Aulie, Tim Wallace and Tim Gleason is pretty much going to guarantee a Win.

Oh, I know Jeanneret is guilty of overlooking when an opponent has the advantage. Another example is when Ray and Kruse simultaneously bombed each other in 1997. Somehow, he only saw Ray's punch.
Annoying, yes, but the times Jeanneret has done stuff like that is not as often as you think.

Jack Edwards, on the other hand, is a complete buffoon with nearly every call he makes. He is also disrespectful of Bruin opponents. He'll suddenly turn anti-fighting if a Bruin loses. Jeanneret NEVER has done that. I don't think it's at all fair to Jeannearet to compare him to the loathsome, reprehensible Jack Edwards.

I fully know how Jack Edwards can get under anybody's skin with his asshole-comments. I complained about him quite a few times myself ... such as under the Aulie-Lucic fight on 04/25/13, then begin looking at "putonthefoil22"& my conversation with him starting at 04/26/13 at 01:46 mark ... so, as you can see, I had my share of verbal battles with Bruins' fans about him.

I'm not saying that Jeanneret is as bad as that goofball Jack Edwards ... and I wouldn't even say he's half as bad as Jack Edwards ... but at the same time, I don't think it's fair when anyone trys to get Jeannearet completely off the hook about the way he announces.

He's just another factor as to why I don't like the Bruins. I don't like Chara, Marchand or Lucic. Lucic is a spot picker but gets the tag of 'toughest in the league' when he's far from it. And Marchand is a pure dick head. The rest of the team I don't mind. I actually like Iginla, Boychuk and Campbell but I dislike The other 3 a lot more

Ah, I don't let Jeanneret completely off the hook for his homerism. But no doubt, his good qualities FAR outweigh his bad qualities.
PROS:
1) Loves fighting
2) Injects tons of excitement in his calls
3) Is never anti-fighting all of a sudden when a Sabre loses
4) Never mocks Sabre opponents
5) Always shows respect for fighters and their job
6) Properly recognizes fighting's place in the sport
CONS:
1) Sometimes acts as if a Sabre loss is a draw (he has never pulled a Sanderson and acted as if a Sabre WON when he clearly lost)

Jeanneret is a boon to fighting in hockey.

I like the idea of cleaning up some of the language. Some of the stuff I have seen is really offensive. I think we should encourage a more civil dialogue. Guys will get a little salty with the language at times, but some of the rhetoric is ridiculous and over the top.

Agreed. "Salty" language is fine and dandy, within reason. But the over-the-top insults too often get out of hand. I was guilty of being dragged into just such a pointless argument last week, but I will definitely refrain.

If you want to see a good example of an argument that never got uncivilized, check out Stormshadow and I debating about the Brashear-Laraque 2007 fight.
THAT'S the way to do it. Too many of the newer posters get out of hand too quickly, and that's what truly pollutes the site.

I agree entirely. It is fine to have passionate debates. I don't like when people throw around f-bombs and compare people to female anatomy during a dispute over a hockey fight. Some past posts have been racist as well.

I am definitely not the language-police, but I think there ought to be some kind of accepted standard. Otherwise, some DYG members may be reluctant to share an opinion when they feel insults and nastiness will be response.

I think there has been some people who just like to troll on the site and try to personally attack others and make them miserable. We don't need the trolls. Hockey is the greatest sport on earth. Why do we need to get nasty and miserable? This is a fun hobby and we don't need people who aren't happy with their lives and just want to attack others to make themselves feel better.

I think rough language is all right at times, as long as it's not directed at someone or deliberately insulting. For example:

OKAY USE OF PROFANITY: "Colton Orr knocked off Todd Fedoruk's head with one motherfucker of a punch!"
NOT OKAY USE OF PROFANITY: "You don't like Milan Lucic? You're a retarded, gay, asshole motherfucker!"

Unfortunately, there has been WAY too much of the latter lately. And the racial comments are never okay.

Yeah, the anti-black comments are the ones I find most offensive. Those ones need to go because that represents us poorly. I have seen the n-word thrown out there at times. This is completely unacceptable.

I just think some of the most egregious stuff needs to be eliminated. Chris had a good point that there is a difference between how some words are used in context. I also think it is good to identify nasty slurs or abuse going forward. A lot of the worst stuff is from several years ago. I think it is just good to pull the stuff rather than engaging people who haven't contributed to the site for years.

I don't think we need to become prudes. I would just like to see more respect and civility. Personal insults and slurs should be avoided. You can attack a stupid idea without saying someone is a stupid person. Chris and I are teachers. We can tell a kid to stop doing something idiotic, but if we call a kid an idiot we will get in real hot water.

I think we should pull the most offensive and vile old posts and identify when people are trolling going forward. We should police the site ourselves. I can tell you that I have avoided posting messages at times because I figure that I will just open myself up for abuse. I can understand how Chris got so upset recently at some comments. It is very tempting in those instances to respond in kind.

We want to encourage open dialogue between people who are passionate about hockey and love the site. Anyone just coming on with the intent of ruining someone's day should be dealt with appropriately. We don't need those people at DYG.

Actually I doubt it was "BS" If you have watched Behind the B there's a bit in a game when the B's a 1-0 up against Ottawa and Thornton says to Claude Julien "He's going to be looking for me now" Julien says "don't fight him, tell him coach say's no" And then he goes over to Lucic and says no fighting right now etc.... So I can imagine that in a playoff game Julien would tell Lucic not to fight. Considering 1) It was the playoff's and 2) He was 19 at the time anyway 3) Montreal kept Laraque on the ice all the time so they wasted a spot that could have been for a valuable player but instead wasted their playoff chances by playing a useless goon. So Lucic not fighting Laraque helped a lot.

This has been re-hashed to death but you insane Bruins fans never got it. Lucic had no problem fighting Komisarek the week before. Didn't even fucking hesitate and challenged the Montreal bench after. Big man going after a middleweight then acting like a prick after that. Then he didn't have the balls to act big and bad when Laraque challenged him. It was absolutely fucking embarrassing on Lucic and on the Bruins part. What was the issue? He got 5 minutes for fighting Komisarek. Guess how much it would've cost Lucic had he had the smalls to fight Laraque? 5 minutes.

The endless excuse by Bruins fans when it came to Lucic was absolutely pathetic for a good 3-4 years until Orr beat his ass then we found out why he ducked HW's.

Then again your username is Looch17. I don't expect you to be objective.

Joel Rechlicz decisive win Fun

The Wrecker and Boychuk decided to go. This was a gross mismatch. Joel missed a blow and landed an average shot. He landed a decent left. The officials were standing pretty close during the scrap. I think they sensed that Boychuk was in over his head. Rechlicz landed an average blow and missed a shot. Johnny landed a light blow and missed two shots. The Wrecker landed a solid blow and missed a shot. The refs intervened and stopped the contest.

I rate this as a decisive win for Rechlicz. It looked like Boychuk was in a vulnerable position at the end of the contest.

Joel Rechlicz clear win Fun
4
Nate Schmidt is just caught by Johnny Boychuk with a hit though Boychuk doesn't get all of it. Despite the hit not being that big, Joel Rechlicz goes right after Boychuk. Rechlicz drops his gloves and grabs Boychuk, forcing his head down and going to the bench boards. Boychuk drops his gloves and grabs Rechlicz as a linesman gets in and tries to break it up. Rechlicz misses two lefts and Boychuk lifts his head and pushes Rechlicz against the boards. Rechlicz then misses a left as Boychuk reaches for Rechlicz's helmet and gets it off. The other linesman comes in and grabs at Rechlicz while Boychuk throws two lefts and lands one. The linesmen move back and Rechlicz throws four lefts, landing two as Boychuk ducks. Boychuk then goes down and the linesmen move back in, breaking up the fight this time. Win Rechlicz.

Reichlicz is too much for Boychuck, as he is feeding him lefts. Boychuck answers with a couple of short punches of his own, but in the end, he was on the receiving end of most of the blows. I thought the zebras got in a little early, but then backed off, and then came back in early again. I think it's clear that Boychuck lost here.

Rechlicz, having already narrowly edged MILAN LUCIC (let that sink in), takes on Johnny Boychuck and schools him.

Most one sided fight I have seen in some time.

Boychuck IMO should not fight at all, he's terrible at it.

Pointless fight by Rechlicz, going after a non-fighter for a clean hit. Nonetheless, a decisive victory as Boychuk had to be saved.

Boychuck goes for an open ice hit on a Cap but it appears he kind of lets up and it's not really much of a collision but Wrecker doesn't like it and amazingly has more left in the tank following the Lucic fight as he goes right after Boychuck and puts a quick beatdown on him with about a half a dozen unanswered lefts before the linesmen pull him off. Win Rechlicz.

It begins when Boychuk innocently bumps one of the Caps, so Rechlicz overtreats the situation by attacking Boychuk. Not much of a fight as it begins with them tangling with one another. Rechlicz then launches 1 long-traveled swing that may have facially-connected. Then Boychuk lands 1 or 2 short-traveled marginal facialpunches. Rechlicz follows that up with 2 helmetpunches. I couldn't see if Boychuk grimaced from suffering pain or not from those 2 helmetpunches, so I would have to rate them as negligible. Refs then quickly end the fight. Draw to narrow win for Rechlicz in a crappy little fight.

Boychuk didn't do anything dirty, but I don't have a problem with a fight being started as a result of a hit. Boychuk lined up a Cap...didn't get all of him, but he was going for it. Wasn't dirty or nasty, but looks like Wrecker went to send a message. As a fight fan, how can you have a problem with a fight started as a result of a collision?Reply

It's not like he gets the ice time to pick and choose the "right" situation. He has to work with the hand he's dealt.

Unfortunately for you though this probably won't happen in the regular season, most of the tough guys won't stay up.

Michal Cajkovsky decisive win Fun

Michal Cajkovsky shoves Adam McQuaid to the ice from behind and that draws Nick Johnson's ire. Cajkovsky turns to Johnson as he skates in and Cajkovsky drops the gloves. Johnson stops as he reaches Cajkovsky and drops the gloves. They grab hold of each other and Cajkovsky misses a right before landing a right as Johnson misses a right. Johnson ducks and turns his head away but is then knocked to his knees while Cajkovsky throws six straight rights, landing three. Johnson tries to get up but can't make it to his feet and the linesmen jump in to break it up while another fight has started between McQuaid and Dane Byers.

McQuaid absolutely obliterates a Cap with a Beautiful hit and Cajkovski shoves McQuaid from behind and was going to fight him in defense of his teammate, but seeing McQuaid fall down on the push Nick Johnson comes in to intercept Cajkovski as McQuaid is getting up, so instead Adam goes with Dane Byers who is second on scene to take him to task for the hit. Cajkovski makes short work of Johnson with about 5 qick rights as Johnson goes down and covers up. Not sure if anthing got past the visor by Cajkovski threw a few punches and wins a shitty fight. Win Cajkovski.

Looked to
Me like cajkovsky got the advantage in this one as he was totally in control of his opponent and was the only one really throwing punches, this appeared to start after he cross checked mcquaid from behind and Johnson came into help his teammate.

Adam McQuaid narrow win Fun

Dane Byers is hit by Adam McQuaid in the neutral zone and doesn't like it. Michal Cajkovsky shoves McQuaid to the ice and then fights Nick Johnson who steps in on McQuaid's behalf. Byers wants a piece of McQuaid too and when he gets up, they pair off and drop the gloves. They come together, locking up in close and wrestle for a little while. McQuaid then stands back while missing a right and tries to shakes his elbow pad off as Byers misses two rights. McQuaid misses a right as Byers jersey jabs and then misses a right. McQuaid misses a right but then throws three rights and lands two after Byers misses a right. Byers misses a right after McQuaid shakes his elbow pad off and McQuaid misses a right. Byers misses a right while leaning away and McQuaid lands a right as Byers jersey jabs McQuaid's helmet off. McQuaid misses a right and Byers throws three rights, landing one before McQuaid misses a right. Byers misses a right as they spin around and McQuaid misses a right which almost causes him to fall to the ice. Byers misses a right and then misses a right as McQuaid lands a right. Byers then ducks and moves in close, grabbing at McQuaid's legs while McQuaid lands a right. McQuaid misses two rights as he's shoved into the glass by Byers. Byers misses a right and McQuaid tries to get Byers' helmet and visor off but stops as a linesman gets in and gets the two to stop fighting. Win McQuaid for landing more and better punches. Alright fight.

McQuaid hammers Byers with a clean hit in the neutral zone. Byers and other Cap (who fought Johnson were pissed). Decent fight, McQuaid was hammering Byers with the body shots, Byers got one good left in. Win McQuaid because on first viewing it looked like McQuaid got Byers with a real good punch to the face which caused Byers to want no more and he started hugging pretty tight.

Meanwhile, Byers and McQuaid get going pretty good. Byers has the advantage of having a shield on but it looks to me like McQuaid got the better of this one. They traded about a half a dozen hard body shots each but McQuaid made good use of his reach advantage landing a nice right over the top, a hard uppercut that may have gotten under the visor and another straight right near the end before Byers pushed him to the glass and finished with another body shot. Byers might have landed one over the top himself but it looked to me the couple he tried to go to the head with fell a bit short while McQuaid got at least two or three pretty good ones through to take the decision. Win McQuaid.
